Aibu - is this gross, or no big deal?

My OH often does not brush his teeth at night, only in the morning. Once a day. I tried to hint by leaving the bathroom light on 'for when you brush', eventually I plain asked him to and he said "Nooo, i'm so comfy now" (in bed).

Aibu to think he should brush twice a day at least? It bugs me!

I would be more disgusted if he didn't brush them at all, if he gives them a good brush in the morning then it doesn't really matter.
I know people who brush twice a day and those that only brush in the morning.
As long as his breath doesn't smell and his teeth are ok then I wouldn't keep on at him

Sorry, but it really does; ask any dentist. Or anyone who has to be breathed on in bed by an unbrushed mouth

Surely brushing at night is even more important-to remove/neutralise all the sugars and acid built up from a day eating and drinking.

Therefore the morning brush is mainly about freshness, the bedtime one about dental care?

Fair point, I've never experienced this myself as those I know that only brush in the morning are two friends I went on holiday with so didn't get that close to them at night Grin

Not brushing at night leaves sugar etc hours to work on his teeth. Very poor hygiene. And as for kissing in bed..no way ..unless teeth are clean.

Yes, it's much worse to brush in the morning. The food is sitting on his teeth all night breeding bacteria. Brushing twice is obviously better but if he's only going to do it once make sure it's the night time brush.

I brush, tongue scrape, and floss once a day. Visit the dentist six monthly. Have no filling or gum problems, halitosis, white teeth. Whereas there are people I know who brush twice/three times a day and they have far more problems than me.

My husband does the same...sometimes a swig if mouthwash,other times nothing at all. Ironically,he is the one who has no fillings,has "a perfect brushing technique",and perfectly healthy teeth!! I find it pretty minging though!

I read that it's important to interrupt the development of bacteria...some people have super strong teeth and don't get any damage but most need to brush twice a day.

I have a friend who always only brushed her teeth in the morning and has never had so much as a filling... her teeth are lovely and white. But she chews sugar free gum quite a lot too. I reckon that is probably why.

Op here.

His breath is ok apart from the standard 'morning breath' that we all get. But his teeth DO have some discolouration, I wonder if this is from a lifetime of lazy brushing now I think of it...

I'm glad i'm not on my own here! 0.o
