To think it's not normal for an 18 year old to play video games on their day off? Mine doesn't move!

I've just got back from shopping. That's exactly how I plan to spend my afternoon (I'm 29).

What a really strange view point though. Would it be less weird if she was watching boxsets or reading a book? Or spending all day on social media? And if yes, what do you think is different about it?

I booked the day off to queue up for and play a new GTA game on the day it was released. I was 27 :)

I also spent about a quarter of my mat leave gaming.

It was the steam summer sale a couple of days ago, so me and dh (in our 30s) have spent quite a bit of this weekend buying and playing games, why would you stop doing something you enjoy at 16 Confused

Playing Borderlands the pre-sequel to get game ready for when the new one comes out later in the year (hopefully).

Very normal! No different to you or I choosing to spend time on Mumsnet or Facebook.

DS1 is 21 has just finished uni finals and resurrected his old Xbox.
DS2 is 19 and welded to his gaming computer.
I'm 59 and waste more time on Hay Day than on MN Grin

It's seen to be the norm nowdays.
I think it's pretty sad.

I'm 27 and love a gaming session. Ex DP is a physicist and the two days of his uni hols would always be spent solidly gaming, that block of time was his wind down before he started his holiday work!

Tbh I put MN, FB and games (or watching endless games on YouTube) in the same bag.
I wish I had more energy to do all the things I love and not be stuck in my armchair where, yes I do MN.

I was thinking the same about endless watching TV too.

There is a life outside a screen!!

I used to play World of Warcraft all the time, and the majority of my guild members were in their 30s, with the oldest one being 74!

So what do you do when you are on your own, have free time and no responsibilities?

I want to find some non-sad activities?

Report
RedPeppers · 25/06/2017 14:17

Why is it sad?

Because we are social beings and putting a game as something with kore imrtance than friend sis a shame.
Because there was PLENTY of things to do outside (whatever takes your fancy, walking in the countryside, going o a museums, a walk in the park, seeing friends and family, reading etc etc take youR pick really). These are things that are more likely to give you joy, give some some energy, refill you emotionally, spiritually, and energy wise than sitting down in front of a console,

Because life is about living, not living it through other or in an imaginary world.

Seriously, my activity level has reduced A LOT. There is very little I wouldn't give to be able to fully love life like I used to be able to ( but didn't always do because I had no idea of how precious all this was)

My 18 year old loves gaming but simply doesn't have much time at the moment. She's either working, sleeping or catching up on TV.

But she will probably have a few days through the year totally devoted to it.

I would rather read a book but still love playing some games online.

Don't see the issue.

That was my main hobby at 18! I loved playing for hours and getting lost in another world. Sometimes would go out with friends in the evening. If your 18 year old studies/works and chooses to relax by gaming then there's nothing wrong with that.

Why isn't it? I'm 28 and I intend to spend most of today playing Dragon Age Inquisition. My DC are out with grandparents and I'm up to date on household chores.

I may even branch out into designing my grey warden cosplay armour or writing some fanfiction.

I've played that game and completed about 10 times now.
