Neighbours car!!! - PLEASE HELP

Namechanged2812 · 20/06/2017 04:36

not really AIBU but need advice please
My neighbour goes to work at 10pm each night and comes home at 4am. His car wakes me up at both times EVERY NIGHT. It sounds like it's going to explode - not well at all.
I mentioned this to a friend about 3 weeks ago and said how I think it doesn't sound fit for purpose. Friend told me about how you can check online for MOT etc - I did, and the car has no tax or MOT thus no insurance.
I reported this to 101 and the dvla and nothing has been done about it! Furthermore - this neighbour has 3 DC who he looks after at the weekend, and drives them about in said death-trap.
I called 101 again yesterday with my concerns and they said contact dvla, I called them again and they said they have a "process" and write to the person first, then if not heard back in 'X' amount of days they escalate it.
I don't understand how this can go ignored for so long - the MOT expired last AUGUST!!!
I am at my wits end with being woken up each morning at this time, and also majorly concerned this person is on the road in a dangerous vehicle.
A friend suggested I write on the car in permanent marker - "this car has no tax or MOT". The friend said it in jest, but maybe that would actually work?! Obviously I don't want to be done for criminal damage though but I really am at a loss and frankly pissed off with the police and dvla!
What can I do?!?!

Fancy because of a noisy car you are suggesting wasting police time by lying to them? Shock

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 20/06/2017 07:49

Phone 101 back and tell them you have now seen he definitely has no insurance. I'd also emphasis the bit about taking the children in it. I know the police are stretched to the limit, but if they think DC are in the car, which is probably unsafe, they may make it more of a priority.

RainbowPastel · 20/06/2017 07:51

You are only supposed to check for your own vehicle on askmid.

Namechanged2812 · 20/06/2017 07:57

Rainbow - oh no!! Arrest me now...

OP posts:
zombiesarecoming · 20/06/2017 07:59

Actually rainbow you can ask about any vehicle, but if you do it as someone else's vehicle it costs you for the privilege of checking, £4 I think and is supposed to be so you can check the other driver out if you have an accident

RainbowPastel · 20/06/2017 08:03

It is an offence OP.

Zombies from the screen shot the OP hasn't used the £4 service though has she.

Lovestonap · 20/06/2017 08:06

Lol! In that case OP call to confess your 'crime' and when the police rush round to arrest you they can check out your neighbour's car at the same time!

racheltable · 20/06/2017 08:08

Underhand, yes - but if you want a result, you have to use whatever strategy you can. If he can drive around with no MOT as fair game, then you too are fair game to get him nabbed.

Or, she could just buy earplugs or put a fan on like any normal person, instead of lying to the police because someone's waking her up at 4am.

I hope someone lies to the police about you, Fancy. Perhaps then you'd stop being so ridiculous.

Namechanged2812 · 20/06/2017 08:09

Lovestonap 😂😂

Just called 101 AGAIN! Someone is going to call me back this afternoon apparently.

Complain to the council about the noise. They might be able to help.

Don't make stuff up - false reporting to the police isn't going to do anything but get you in trouble with everyone and will ensure that nobody takes any future complaints seriously. Not to mention the backlash from your neighbour.

You've started the process...hopefully it will work. As pp said mention the DC's in the car as that may peak their interest.

You have my sympathy.

Madbum · 20/06/2017 08:11

I reported a non taxed car that was partially blocking my driveway for days to my local council and it was towed away a couple of days later. This was about 5 years ago though.

outabout · 20/06/2017 08:15

The old penalty of 'failing to display a valid tax disc' was quite handy for situations like this.

LavenderRainbows · 20/06/2017 08:20

I've just read online (sorry don't know how to link and just off to work )
It states that having no MOT can invalidate car insurance.

LavenderRainbows · 20/06/2017 08:23

Sorry, just seen he's got no insurance anyway!
People like this make me sick. The rest of us spend a fortune keeping our cars roadworthy and jerks like this do what they likeAngry
I hope they throw the book at him. The site I was on suggested 6 points on licence and a 3k fine can be issued.

QuitMoaning · 20/06/2017 08:26

I know the issue of insurance has been raised (he has none) but to clarify all those who think no tax or MOT invalidates insurance, it really doesn't. titty is absolutely correct.

I have a 'classic car' that was until recently off road. It was declared as SORN and it had no MOT. The insurance was perfectly valid. You cannot tax a car without MOT and insurance but you can insure a car without tax and mot.
However you can often infer that if someone is driving around in a car without tax and MOT, it is likely they would not have bothered with insurance.

FancyThatFenceEdge · 20/06/2017 08:27

@Iris65 ODFOD. Read the OP's posts. The car is neither tax or insured. And as @LavenderRainbows points out, its illegal and unfair that law abiding car drivers/owners keep their vehicles legal and some cunts do not.

Goes beyond "a noisy car" as you put it.

TittyGolightly · 20/06/2017 08:30

Well, if it's online it must be true. Hmm

NormaSmuff · 20/06/2017 08:34

how the hell do you know it isnt taxed and has no mot?

RaspberryOverloadsOnIcepops · 20/06/2017 08:36

I've just seen several sites online, including from insurers, than no MOT can invalidate insurance. But it's not always a simple black and white picture, and depends on circumstances.

NormaSmuff · 20/06/2017 08:36

oh i see you checked online?

surely you need to fix the problem of him waking you rather than making a fuss about his noisy car.

MissBax · 20/06/2017 08:36

Norma sorry, not Normal 🙈

LIZS · 20/06/2017 08:37

Norma you can look them up online. He wouldn't be able to tax it without an MOT. If that expired in August he would need to have taxed it before then so at best has a month.
