I'm all out of inspiration here. The grind is getting us all down, interspersed with terrorist attacks, but we shall overcome. In the meantime, there's gin and camaraderie.

I imagine the calculations are huge (in every sense).

I was struck by this in the WP report of the whole sorry hacking mess:

'They believe that a series of warnings — including one that Obama delivered to Putin in September — prompted Moscow to abandon any plans of further aggression, such as sabotage of U.S. voting systems.'

cozietoesie · 23/06/2017 23:37

I have just a vague memory that the CBO is down to repot on this one as well.

Sorry - just read Across's link. Of course. Reconciliation rules.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 24/06/2017 00:07

I thought it was 'interesting' the way that the release of the Obama administration's warning about Russian interference in the US electoral process was buried (within an hour) by a wikileak and the release of the tapes of Trump being lewd about women. Hmmm. How very unlucky for the Democrats... Hmm

What fascinates me in particular is just how little he seemed/seems to care about it.

TheClaws · 24/06/2017 01:30

That article on Trump's lies is fascinating. Incredible that it refers to a POTUS.

Just out: The Obama Administration knew far in advance of November 8th about election meddling by Russia. Did nothing about it. WHY?

(You mean - the meddling you've said time and time again was a hoax?) Grin

Lweji · 24/06/2017 02:37

Yes, they should have called off the election until it was all properly dealt with. Grin

TheClaws · 24/06/2017 02:40

^^^

He deleted this tweet minutes after it was posted - maybe he thought he shouldn't concede there was Russian interference in the election?

TheClaws · 24/06/2017 02:45

Nope, sorry, it's there - something wrong with my feed.

TheClaws · 24/06/2017 03:20

And didn't the Obama administration eject Russian diplomats from the US over election interference, among other sanctions? Sanctions that the current administation have rolled back?

AcrossthePond55 · 24/06/2017 04:38

He did, Claws.

And naturally, Scrotus is 'considering' planning on giving them back.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 24/06/2017 07:11

How are you all, personally, reacting to the onslaught of all this alarming news and analysis?

Someone who knows how much I'm obsessed with the Trump circus said to me, "You were right. The stuff that's come out in the last few weeks is very worrying to me."

He seemed to think something was new and different. I didn't really know what he was referring to. I've found it all very worrying since November.

My alarm levels have been dulled through constant exposure.

PerkingFaintly · 24/06/2017 07:33

A good question, Westley.

I'm distressingly adjusted to the new normal.

But I am an Eeyore by nature, and have been alarmed for a number of years by the rise of chest-thumping nationalism, the normalisation of dehumanising ideas, and the apparent appetite for major conflict in many quarters (within the UK, as that's where I am, but also conflict elsewhere because it affects us - and of course because it affects people in the countries directly suffering conflict).

So I'm in your position but have been worried for years.

In some ways I'm actually relieved at the orange buffoon being so obvious, because he undermines the "boiling the frog" that has been going on. So people like your friend have finally noticed something's amiss - even if they don't have all the details.

If the Mercers and their ilk had chosen someone less insane as their front man, they might have got away with it.

They met privately without aides for several minutes after that. Topics - tax reform, healthcare bill, VA efforts, others.
Pence and Koch network have long relationship. Koch-backed umbrella group holding seminar in CO Springs this weekend.
Pence didn't attend the seminar, he was in town for something else. He and Charles Koch are longtime friends.
