To bake a cake with DD and take it to the mosque?

I know it's a tiny gesture in the grand scheme of things. But I thought maybe baking a cake for the worshippers to eat when they break their fast tonight might be a nice idea? We live a couple of minutes away.

It's just, in other terrorist attacks, there is an immediate outpouring of love and support. Athough it's early, there seems to be a lot less today. Coupled with the biased media reporting. Thought it might be a nice way of showing solidarity and love.

But are they going to be in mourning? Does it seem patronising? I'll absolutely accept if I am BU, please don't flame me.

@Starfleet (good choice of name) well said. Luckily Lavender has left this thread now so it can go back to being nice :)

PovertyPain · 19/06/2017 18:30

Sorry if Ive missed it, but do people go to the mosque to break their fasts or pray, in the evening? I'd like to do something similar. Thanks for the idea op. I'm an atheist so I could quite happily pick holes in every religion, but I won't because I'm not a dick. I'm sick to the stomach reading about the justification bullshit the bigots are coming out with.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/06/2017 18:34

Solidity maybe. Not solidarity!

Foniks · 19/06/2017 18:35

Poverty they'll be there for both. Some will just go for prayers and break their fast at home, some will be doing both there.
And it's people like you and op who keep the world turning I think. Muslims, atheists, Christians, Jewish, all can live peacefully together if they're decent people.
I'd also like to add that Daesh are using this attack as a tool now, telling Muslims it's proof that they're hated in the West and that's why it's better to join them. I think it's fabulous that people are giving them a big fuck you by doing things like this. They don't speak for British people any more than they speak for Muslims and can't say British people hate Muslims.

Foniks · 19/06/2017 18:38

Bit that's lovely of you. If you still want to do something, despite the baking skills lol, you could just take a pre made cake or some sweets or something.
I love that people are doing this. It's not only showing Daesh they're wrong in saying what they're saying, but also proving to terrorists like Darren Osbourne that no, he isn't going to be hailed as a hero an we think he's the same scum as Daesh.

PixiePopPops · 19/06/2017 18:47

Completely agree that you must be pretty empty between the ears to make those assumptions from what the London Mayor said.

And it's a tiny gesture of course, but maybe a story that's shared tonight at the breaking of the fast. And there might be a young man there feeling targeted tonight, feeling disenfranchised and feeling like he's not welcome in his own country. Ripe pickings for Daesh.

And maybe this tiny gesture will help him realise that that isn't the fact, 99% of decent people do love living in a multicultural society, it really does make our lives so much richer. We do want him there and he's just British as anyone else.

And if not, well, I got to bake a cake for some people who are probably feeling sad today.

Win, win. Smile

Pixie you're such a lovely person. It might be a tiny gesture for you, but it will be a huge gesture to others. For that young man who's feeling targeted and as if British non Muslims agree with that terrorist, it certainly won't be something tiny. For parents having to explain what happened to their muslim children, it won't be a tiny gesture.

It's funny sometimes, that something so small to one person is actually huge to another person.

clumsyduck · 19/06/2017 18:53

Lovely idea 👍🏼

We dont live in the UK but we do have a strong connection with it. Tonight my youngest daughter was catching up with the news and she started crying. I asked what was wrong (she's having a terrible time at work right now) and she said the world is such a bloody ugly place mum, Im so upset by all the goings on in the UK and what happened to Grenfell Tower. I couldn't really say much to her but I did tell her about what you had done and it brought comfort to her when I couldn't

My sons, nephews and sons in law have been the young men studying abroad who faced difficult times.

Thank you so much for what you and the other poster did today.

Oh how nice, thank you for sharing. She sounds like a lovely, compassionate girl. I think the main thing we can do to help things is to raise our kids to be tolerant and show love always, and model this behaviour ourselves. By doing this, with any hope the world will get a little better for them.

I think it's a lovely idea Flowers I used to work with Muslim students from Libya, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. God, we had some great lunches and dinners. Sharing food was such a massive part of their culture, more so than any other I've witnessed. Bringing something nice to eat, and made in a spirit of friendship, is what Iftar is all about.

BitchyHen · 19/06/2017 19:06

I've been inspired by you Pixie, and some of the previous posters, and I've also emailed my local mosque to express my sympathy and support.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 19/06/2017 19:08

OP you've started a movement! I will also go to my local.moswue tomorrow....but may buy the cake Blush

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 19/06/2017 19:09

Mosque...what a fail

mateysmum · 19/06/2017 19:29

I see Nadiya Hussein of Bake Off is on Twitter - she is the embodiment of cross culture cake and has had at least one unpleasant tweet recently. Should someone who Tweets let her know about this thread?

Say no if you don't like the idea Pixie

LotusBomb · 19/06/2017 19:30

So lovely of people to have reached out. Heartwarming considering the constant flow of bad news at the moment Smile

SloeGinRocks · 19/06/2017 19:32

I think bake the cake OP 🎂

Brilliant idea! I don't tweet but I'm loving the love and would be more than happy for someone to tweet her. Recently NC so not too concerned about it ending up in the daily fail though I doubt they would print anything remotely representing tolerance.
