Men can breastfeed

shinynewusername · 19/06/2017 07:58

La Leche League - the US equivalent of the NCT - now claims that men can breastfeed. NB, they are not just talking about transmen (born women), but actual men. WTF? Hmm

(Mens' nipples do occasionally produce some fluid, often as a result of disease but to say this is breast-feeding is deranged and insulting to mothers)

Over the weekend, I have also seen transwomen on social media claim that women seeking abortion should feel privileged to have an unwanted pregnancy and a 16 year old student at an American school in Spain reporting how she was not allowed to mention FGM or use the word 'woman' in a class on feminism because it 'triggered' a non-binary male in the class.

AIBU to think this is fucking out of hand? Every aspect of women's identify is being colonised and erased.

No one is forcing a woman to get naked in front of a man

Perhaps not. But, if men can use women's changing rooms, women have a choice between getting naked in front of them or not using the gym/pool. That is a choice that they should not have to make.

And what about women who culturally are not allowed to share intimate facilities with men? How many observant Muslim women, religiously conservative Jewish women or women originally from countries that segregate the sexes will feel able to use a mixed changing room? But who cares about them, eh, as long as no one is hurting men's feelings?

Beyond a PP linked to the case you are thinking of. I think that, in that particular instance, in the end the case didn't turn on the issue of men lactating. But it is a perfect example of what happens if we start pretending that women should have no rights based on their separate biology

When I was pregnant I went to an NCT breastfeeding class - the leader suggested to my (woman) dp that she could breastfeed too. We were both a bit Hmm think we've already got enough to deal with here.

JamieXeed74 · 19/06/2017 11:40

But, if men can use women's changing rooms

I dont know any men protesting to use woman's facilities. This is about trans peoples rights. If a man went into a woman's changing room and started masturbating in front of me I would ring the police.

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/06/2017 11:41

In some countries, self identification of gender has become law, spaces have stopped being segregated by sex and are now based on gender identity. That means that anyone can enter a female changing room (or other sex segregated facility) as long as they identify as female. No matter how they present or if they are male bodied. Women will have to either put up with male bodied people in their facilities or go elsewhere, because if women attempt to complain about it they'll be committing a hate crime.

shinynewusername · 19/06/2017 11:53

This is about trans peoples rights

No, it is about men's rights. 80% of TW have no gender reassignment surgery and many do not take hormone treatment either. They are mainly sexually attracted to women. They are therefore no different, biologically or sexually, from men. On top of that, once any man can claim to identify as a woman, there is nothing to stop any man - trans or not - entering women's facilities.

Of course, you can call the police if a man (or woman) masturbates in front of you. That doesn't mean you won't suffer distress. 1 in 6 women are survivors of rape. Every women lives with the threat of sexual violence. Wouldn't it be better to prevent them being exposed to masturbating men, then to try and prosecute those men after the crime has occurred?. And don't you think the man would just deny it? - after all, he will have a perfect right to be there and it be your word against his.

Attempting to prosecute crimes after the fact - even if our criminal justice system was any good at prosecuting sexual assault which is patently isn't - is no substitute for preventing crime in the first place.

And it is not just about crime either, it is about comfort and privacy.

Which countries are those @AssassinatedBeauty

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 19/06/2017 12:00

Christ, I can't believe there are women here arguing that males should be allowed in female change rooms. WTF? Are women just not important at all?

shinynewusername · 19/06/2017 12:02

Taget, the big US chain store, started allowing men who identify as women to use women's changing rooms a year ago. I believe the tally of men charged with voyeurism and other sexual assaults since then stands at 17, and that's just the ones who have been caught - in a single retailer. Link to some of the cases here

Lots of men get off on seeing women naked. Lots of men get off on making women uncomfortable and afraid. Lots of men get off on humiliating women. Who benefits from letting men into women's facilities? Men like that. Men and TW who respect women also respect their privacy.

Women's rights for biological protection are being eroded. There is no doubt about it.

And I'm sorry, but I do not have a laissez-faire attitude to it. Any of it.

It's quite true that the issue of men breastfeeding has cropped up every now and then, as they can produce some sort of liquid. If it was biologically gender neutral, as it is now being politically suggested, then we would see men breastfeeding. We don't, obviously.

It is being driven by the trans agenda as a direct result of the fetishising of women's biology.

I wish women would wake up to what is happening in front of their noses.

@Nousernameforme Ireland and Canada are the two that spring to mind.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/06/2017 12:07

Mostly I think aimed at transmen, but whoever runs the Twitter account was keen to mention natal men lactating too.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/06/2017 12:13

This Canadian senator voted in favour of Canada's gender identity bill and is only now realising that its problematic.
She says: "By amending the Criminal Code and Human Rights Act to include the words “gender expression” as protected grounds (as opposed to “transgender” as protected grounds) Bill C-16 effectively redefines what it means to be a woman from something biological to something defined by external appearance. ...with the passage of Bill C-16, a woman’s status in Canada is no longer based on her biology or chromosomes – it is based on whether or not she “expresses” herself as female"

Datun · 19/06/2017 12:19

FFS empress

However, I have serious concerns about the drafting of Canada’s new “transgender” law and fear that it will not create rights for the transgendered as much as it will take away rights from women and girls.

She's only realising this NOW? After listening to the pros and cons, the debates. She votes in favour. But only NOW sees the implications?!

She should be fired.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/06/2017 12:24

I know, Datun, but OTOH after fucking up she's done something very brave by speaking out.

shinynewusername · 19/06/2017 12:25

Women's Aid is now for men too.

That article is unbelievable

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 19/06/2017 12:30

WTF Shiney. I think I want to cry

shinynewusername · 19/06/2017 12:38

Get a grip, Assigned - mustn't be hysterical Wink

Yeah, terrifying isn't it? And the naivety and denial of some women is scary too. When people come to remove your rights, they don't tend to announce it up front (unless they're the Taliban), they do it by stealth and by manipulating social structures and well-intentioned allies to their own advantage.

This is her speech re C16. I think she supported an amendment which was not accepted

empress

Yes, I will concede that she is brave. She will get a massive kicking on social media. But it's too late.

shiney

I can't believe that. Women's Aid!!!

I see so many below the line comments from people who either have never drunk the Kool-Aid, or used to drink it and no longer do so. I thought that some headway was being made.

But fucking Women's Aid.

More and more of this nonsense is being normalised. It's being accepted. Taken as read.

I hadn't realised how many people have lost the capacity for rational thought.

Voiceforreason · 19/06/2017 12:44

Men can equally be the victims of dv. In fact nearly as many victims of dv are men as are women. Do you not believe they should get any help? The real victims of dv are children and they are in fact more likely to suffer that from their mother. Equality is one thing. No right minded person would disagree. Expecting to be more equal is another.

1 in 6 women are survivors of rape. Every women lives with the threat of sexual violence.

Please stop talking OP. It's nonsense and an embarrassment to regular women. Making up statistics does women no favours and simply by telling you that I've never lived with the threat of sexual assault makes the second hyperbolic sentence untrue.

Did you read the links you posted to? There's no mention of a man masturbating in the first.

I couldn't read the second as it starts with "Why we are calling for safe space for women at UVic" and over and over in my head I thought "twats". I tried not to but it closing the tab seems to be a reflex arc.
