Blazers on in this a weather. Really?

Top buttons too.

DSis school is saying it's to enhance work ethic and get you use to the work place by following rules like these.

Cannot think of many work places who would purposely make you uncomfortable like this Hmm

DS is still in utero. I'm praying they change these stupid rules nationally very soon, and make it bad practise to force children to swelter like this.

My husband teaches in a grammar school and they have said blazers and ties and long-sleeved shirts are unnecessary this week.

I know lots of schools now say 'office wear' for sixth form. I've never worked in an office, I'm an opera singer. I'd have worn a ball gown.

jessebuni · 20/06/2017 17:55

The school I went to had girls in navy uniform and boys in black we had shirts/blouses, ties and blazers but when heat waves occurred we would get a letter sent out to parents saying that students could go without blazers until further notice then a week or two later another letter sent home saying the temperature is back down to a more manageable level please make sure students where blazers. Whilst yes I get that there are plenty of jobs these kids will have that have dress code, most shops and offices etc have aircon where as very few schools do. Funnily enough my friends DD who is in a school with strict uniform policies sent a parentmail out yesterday saying blazers aren't required this week however unless told otherwise blazers will be required as normal next week.

SherbrookeFosterer · 20/06/2017 18:26

YANBU.

Only a teacher who has never had children of her/his own would enforce such a stupid rule!

happy2bhomely · 20/06/2017 18:28

Our school displays a flag when blazers don't have to be worn because of the heat. I'm not sure what temp it has to be for the flag to be displayed. It wasn't today. DD said that even when it is displayed it only applies at break and lunch. They have to wear it in lessons and ask permission from the teacher to remove it.

DS who is currently sitting GCSEs was told off at the front of the (sweltering oven-like) hall for having his shirt half untucked and blazer off. He tucked it in as he walked towards his seat and was told to get back to the front and tuck it in front of the invigilator.

It's pathetic. On one hand telling them that they are nearly adults and should grow up, but on the other treating them like toddlers.

I home ed the 3 younger ones because we got so sick of it all. Between uniform rules, packed lunch police, toilet rules and the national curriculum, school was becoming quite depressing.

JustDanceAddict · 20/06/2017 18:28

Thankfully not in my kids school or the one I work in. All blazers, top buttons and ties are off!!

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/06/2017 18:32

Only a teacher who has never had children of her/his own would enforce such a stupid rule!

Only someone stupid would make such a crass generalisation.

SherbrookeFosterer · 20/06/2017 18:32

Maireadplastic - you just made my day!

MissCommunication · 20/06/2017 18:57

I'm sure even gentlemen are permitted to remove their jackets when temperatures soar.

Codswallop. As my Grandad would say.

reup · 20/06/2017 19:27

Happy2bhomely. - that's awful feeling too hot during exams.

All this nonsense seems to be some awful hangover from the empire and wearing inappropriate clothing whilst invading and ruling other countries. It's mainly countries that used to be part of that seems to love school uniform so much whereas Europe, Canada and the US don't seem to be crumbling due to lack or it.

youarenotkiddingme · 20/06/2017 19:32

It's even made the news that they are allowing gentleman to remove top hat at a certain temperature at Ascot.

MayhemAndRudderless · 20/06/2017 19:32

Only in 'Great' Britain.

Dicks.

YANBU.

MsJudgemental · 20/06/2017 19:57

One of my tutees told me today that they had to keep their blazers on and ties done up; a girl fainted.

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/06/2017 20:14

reup

That really is a long shot.

Many European countries forged empires whilst wearing silly uniforms.

If you look at your example it is more likely to be those that have a definitive class system have a school uniform, as those countries that you state have either no traditional upper class or have over thrown them.

olbndansmummy · 20/06/2017 20:15

Our eldest ds was sent out of his classroom a couple of years back, and told to walk back in wearing his blazer, so he duly went out, put his blazer on and walked back in. As he waltzed to his seat he piped up "I see you're wearing your blazer and getting heatstroke, miss" obviously this earned him a detention! When school rang me to tell me I did tell them that it was idiotic in the heat and that if he did get heatstroke I would sue them! The following week they were told they could wear short sleeved shits, but to still wear blazers between classes. Bloody ridiculous

libbyb · 20/06/2017 20:19

My Daughter's school has a 'summer' uniform - it is an embroidered polo shirt - that has to be worn under the blazer. The Girls winter uniform is a poplin open necked shirt - girls don't have to wear ties - and a v necked jumper or a cardigan (uniform badged).
On days like this week the kids at this school are having fainting episodes, feeling sick and lightheaded. There is also a code for the 6th form going in to sit A levels. Today was 30 degrees outside and God knows what inside the assembly/gym hall, 2 kids passed out. How do you pay that back? A Level fail??? Thank you school rules - and good bye!

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/06/2017 20:29
Shock

Wtf are they trying to prove making them keep them on. Bow are they supposed to concentrate on exams whilst fighting fainting and nausea.

Do they enjoy torturing kids

eulmh · 20/06/2017 20:46

My school allowed students to undo their top button and take their toes off. I think actually that's really bad for student well being and I've never experienced a work place that has required you to wear a blazer in this sort of weather! Ps teachers just follow the orders barked at us by the powers that be!

eulmh · 20/06/2017 20:47

Obviously not their toes!!!!! They took their ties off!!!!!

LaurieF · 20/06/2017 20:49

My son is at high school, exceptionally good academy, classed as the best in our city and also classed as a world class school. Other local schools enforce the blazer and jumper rule in summer yet his school have a summer uniform rule in the last half term of the year which is short sleeved shirts and ties, no jumpers, blazers, jackets etc. Totally agree that enforcing layers of clothes in the weather is completely unnecessary as the careers that enforce this as an adult really are minimal!! It serves no purpose imo

MCamp10 · 20/06/2017 20:49

It's absolutely disgraceful - bullying, unreasonable and power games. Together with the numerous schools who refuse permission to children and teenagers to go to the toilet and even lock the toilets during lesson times. HOWEVER.........if parents weren't so compliant and accepting and afraid to rock the boat, these rules would be disbanded very quickly. No wonder there's been such an increase in home education over the past 10 years. Personally I would never put a child into mainstream education the way it is nowadays.

embod · 20/06/2017 20:53

I agree it's ridiculous. My daughter is in Year 6 and the high school she's due to go to has a similar policy that due to parental pressure has had to be amended this week.
However I also think the situation is exaggerated by parents...one claimed their child had been burnt by the clip on their tie. Pupils are allowed to take the blazers off in lessons etc and in such extreme weather conditions there is obviously a degree of flexibility.

PS been teaching for 18 years and have never seen a teacher 'swan' anywhere.

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/06/2017 20:53

Yy there is no purpose what so ever to do this.

Driving around stalking students. Fuck off. Not as if you care what happens outside of school when your kids are being bullies.

camp I swear ninety percent of MN would jump off a cliff if head teachers said so.

Greensmurf1 · 20/06/2017 21:03

I grew up in the USA and we didn't have school uniforms unless you went to a private religious school. I think they are old fashioned and uncomfortable and I pity my DD who will have to wear them. We had certain elements of a dress code to avoid crude words, pictures on tshirts, revealing garments, hats. That worked fine. Most of my office turned up in shorts today. Joys of the creative industries. Even my husband's office dress code doesn't require ties or jackets in their old fashioned semipublic sector industry and suits are optional on there on Fridays. It seems so daft to force children to dress like 1960s accountants and diner waitresses to learn and play!

Halfpastthelegofmyshirt · 20/06/2017 21:26

I've been suggesting to some of my pupils today that if they're feeling hot they might want to take off their blazer and jumper...they don't want to!

VerbenaGirl · 20/06/2017 21:33

DDs school has allowed them to go without their blazer while it's been hot. General rule is that if the teacher takes their jacket off, the children can take their blazers off. My DNs school has gone one better allowing PE kit as an option too.
