may couldn't have the decency to visit the victims of Grenfell tower ' due to security threat'
but HM the queen and Prince William were OK to show kindness to those effected.

I think Theresa May is trying to do her job - but leading the country, which she wants to do, involves turning up when disasters happen. It might be harrowing, and there might be anger directed at you, but hiding away just makes her look weak and inhuman

True.

Thatcher was hated by a lot of people and I doubt many in Liverpool had any time for her, but she did turn up to the hospitals after Hillsborough. I can't believe May is making my defend Thatcher, but it's happening.

hackmum · 16/06/2017 15:41

Runny: "She is either completley socially inept and has no emotional intelligence, or she just doesn't give a shit."

Actually, I think she's socially inept. The thing is, if she just didn't give a shit, she could at least pretend to give a shit, which would be in her interest at a time when she has such a slender hold on her job. I really think she doesn't like being around ordinary people, or indeed any kind of people, very much.

This tragedy isn't a political issue

Yes it is. This could have been prevented had some 300+ Tories not voted against an amendment to the housing bill which would have prevented exactly this sort of thing from happening.

To pretend it isn't a political issue is simply burying your head in the sand.

This article was posted on another thread but it's a good read:

Someone needs to remind TM that her job is to listen to and represent people. She seems to think she is there to rule over us.

Gottagetmoving · 16/06/2017 16:23

This tragedy isn't a political issue
If I hear this one more time I will throw up!! Of course it's a political issue!
Policies often create tragedies..This is a prime example.

DeleteOrDecay · 16/06/2017 16:26

I agree moving. How can anyone say it isn't? The facts speak for themselves!

derxa · 16/06/2017 16:29

I think everyone should calm down a bit. The only people who have a right to complain are those directly affected.

UnGoogleable · 16/06/2017 16:31

I'm certainly no fan of the Queen, but I was quite moved watching her talking to people earlier today. She actually asked them what they'd seen, how awful it must have been for them etc... she sounded like an old lady showing sympathy to people.

TM, as far as we know, has yet to hear from a single local resident about what they've been through, apart from the very small number in hospital.

Neutrogena · 16/06/2017 16:32

derxa - good trolling! I'm sure you'll get bites.

No, Theresa May is our Prime Minister. She represents all of us. She heads our Government.

We all have a right to demand that she does a good job.

By your logic, if we don't have a right to complain about how people are being treated, should we also not care about them since it doesn't affect us?

DeleteOrDecay · 16/06/2017 16:35

Bollocks, its attitudes like that that lead to things like this happening in the first place.

The more people who complain about this the better. Less chance of it being swept under the carpet then.

I'm no may fan, but to be fair people won't blame the queen but they will blame the Tories. She may be at risk when the royals would not.

derxa · 16/06/2017 16:39

I'm not trolling. Yes there should be a huge stink about this whole thing. It's a massive disgrace and I'm heartsick about it. I'm not talking about complaining about what is a national scandal. But this baying for Theresa May to visit the bereaved and hospitalised and so on - I'm not so sure. Do they really want her to come?

JacquesHammer · 16/06/2017 16:55

Do they really want her to come

You know what? They might not want her to. But they want to be fucking heard - and it would go SOME way towards maybe giving some semblance of listening

Hassled · 16/06/2017 16:55

I expect there were pretty legitimate safety concerns around May meeting the victims. They are angry, and why the hell wouldn't they be? And she represents everything that they're angry about. I'm no May fan, but if the consensus was that she would have been in physical danger had she gone, then I can't blame her for not going. It wasn't the same with Corbyn or the Queen. And I can't quite believe that I'm justifying May.

derxa · 16/06/2017 17:02

As Robin Day said to John Nott, Theresa May is a 'here today gone tomorrow politician'. I don't care whether anyone shouts at her or not. But is it helpful?

NataliaOsipova · 16/06/2017 17:09

I'm no fan of TM either. But - let's face it - if she'd spent all day trawling the hospitals and community centres, people would have been complaining that she was playing for the cameras and not getting on with the hard business of finding out what happened and sorting out finances. What is needed now is action and answers, not photo opportunities.

Did someone say Lizard? Grin & if not, why not?

fishybits · 16/06/2017 17:11

Damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.

I am a fan of the Queen and Ive been waiting to hear of a visit by her to Grenfell.

Ive watched it on the news now and its obvious her and William were shaken by what they saw. Both of them were close to tears, and they looked pale. If I ever went through something that meant VIP visitors would come to say hello, Id be very happy to see the Queen coming. Nothing else would cut it to be honest.

MrsPeelyWaly · 16/06/2017 17:15

Damned if she does and damned if she doesn't

I agree with this and said it days ago. Nothing she does right now will be the right thing to do.

deffoncforthis · 16/06/2017 17:21

I agree it's not right but doesn't anyone feel that corbyn is using this opportunity to look good... Or am I super cynical?

I think he's a nasty piece of work, and that he and his followers are trying to harness the rage, shock and grief associated with this disaster for their own political ends.

They will be most pleased if by slogans and sleight of hand they can get people thinking Theresa May is to blame for this terrible incident (I won't call it an accident, it seems to have been preventable), and even more pleased if there are riots on the streets which they can present as a demand for JC to be Prime Minister.

It really isn't the time for it, but it's no surprise as he has stood over the bodies of dead Britons to make his own edgy political points before now.

upperlimit · 16/06/2017 17:27

Jesus, this is how the poor get shit upon. Nothing to see here, move along.

It's not political

Even if you are of the opinion that the Tories are not directly to blame, you have to be a total idiot or, at best, incredibly niave to think that this is not political.
