On holiday, thongs and arse cheeks everywhere around the pool and beach.

Why do you need to tan your bum cheeks?

It's the first sign that your skin is under attack and, form the health POV, better avoided altogether.

The extra square inches of skin between that might be exposed depending on cut of swimsuit won't make any big difference to risk.

They may feel more confident naked if the tan is almost all over. The tan lines from full bottoms looks a lot harsher. Not for me either mind.
