to think your arse cheeks should be WITHIN your shorts, rather than hanging out.

Just walked up a hill behind 2 of the (much) younger generation.

It is a hot day. Shorts are good. But these girls in front of me had shorts of a length I would have regarded PE knickers to be in the late 80's /90's.

Is this a 'thing' now, to have your arse cheeks on display? I thought outer clothing was meant to cover them. AIBU?

little it's not about riding lessons though, is it?

It's about women constantly being policed.

Be sexy - no that's too sexy.

Be classy - no that's boring.

CaoNiMartacus · 16/06/2017 08:11

It's a pervert's dream, really, isn't it? This so-called liberation!

Mulledwine1 · 16/06/2017 08:14

I think it's best for everyone that my arse cheeks are not on display

And sadly some of these girls are a bit "curvy" and it's really not a pretty sight.

Should we also moan about men walking around with their hairy guts out

Well actually yes I do. It's horrible. And it's smelly too. Get in a train when it's hot, and people are walking around topless or with strappy tops on and there is a really "meaty" smell. It's really not very pleasant.

Fiona1984 · 16/06/2017 08:14

BigYellowJumper I have no issue, I just commented that it was odd. It wasn't even hot that day.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 08:16

cao I don't think it's about liberation or otherwise. I too am concerned that women feel they have to dress a certain way.

But I also don't like the way that people constantly go on about seeing women's arses, vaginas etc.

Pick on the society that deems women valuable only if they are fuckable, not the women themselves.

CancellyMcChequeface · 16/06/2017 08:27

This is a relatively new thing, isn't it? I really don't understand it.

I don't want to see anyone's arse cheeks in public, regardless of the age, size or shape of the arse in question. I think it's a mistake to make it about certain kinds of bodies. It's just indecent. I have no problem with short shorts, but arses (and genitals) should be covered as a bare minimum.

Chickpea212 · 16/06/2017 08:30

I have no problem with short shorts but the knicker ones need to die. IMO they are fine for the beach/holiday resort but not for shopping etc. Very few people even young ones have the cheeks to pull them off. It's not about fat vs thin it's your shape.
I also find it really weird when people sunbathe in their underwear in the park, maybe I'm a prude.

namechange20050 · 16/06/2017 08:34

I'm with you op. I think it looks awful. When I was a teenager I would have rather died than had my arse on display. Awful fashion.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 08:36

cancelly people presumably said the same about miniskirts.

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 16/06/2017 08:42

I find it weird as they remind me of PE knickers back in the 70s/80s, and nobody ever wanted to wear those. I'm sure there was a big hoo-ha about them in the end and they were got rid of.

My mind boggles at choosing to wear them in public.

roundaboutthetown · 16/06/2017 08:46

BigYellowJumper - yes, there are people who keep staring when it is clearly unwanted. There are also women who get aggressive and start calling men perves the instant a man looks anywhere near the bit they are drawing attention to. If you don't want anyone giving even a second's glance to your arse, then don't expose your arse, because exposing it will draw people's attention to it, whether they find it alluring, repulsive, offensive, or aesthetically pleasing. It is impossible not to notice when someone is wearing very little, wearing rather a lot of layers on a hot day, or something unusual or that most people would be unable to fit into.

roundaboutthetown · 16/06/2017 08:50

And a woman wearing something so skimpy you can see her pubic hair or vulva is just as offensive as a man wearing something so skimpy you can see his pubic hair or penis. If you would not want to see a man in clothes that skimpy, why would you want to see a woman in clothes that skimpy?

LondonNicki · 16/06/2017 09:00

Agree OP it's not classy.

acornsandnuts · 16/06/2017 09:10

Are men's low slung trousers with their pants showing and pubic hair sprouting from the top as offensive.

Also topless men, I see far more of these wandering the streets or sitting outside of pubs than I see girls in short shorts.

If you're offended by flesh please be offended by ALL flesh and stop body shaming women.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 09:12

round Having never seen these pubic hair exposing women, I can't really comment.

Sounds like something someone saw once and now it's every woman with short shorts is showing her fanny.

PortiaCastis · 16/06/2017 09:21

I'll wear my shorts with my arse hanging out if I want cant be any worse than beachwear

ZaraW · 16/06/2017 09:34

On arrival in Bangkok a backpacker had the shortest shorts I had ever seen made even worse by them riding higher when she put her backpack on. Will never forget the look of disgust an elderly Thai lady gave her. It's not a good luck.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 09:39

zara I'm sure it wasn't anything the Thai woman hadn't seen before. Plenty of short shorts in Thailand.

dangermouseisace · 16/06/2017 09:49

hmm acorns if you'd read 1st page you'd see that men and their sweaty guts are just as bad in my opinion. Even if they are all abs n stuff. In your own garden/the beach/sunbathing in the park yes- in town, nope.

Maybe I'm a prude but I quite like countries where the really skimpy stuff is for the beach etc, but walking about in town you need to have actual clothes on - men and women.

And I'm assuming that these shorts aren't that comfortable by the amount of women you see having to rather obviously and inelegantly hoik them out of their crack…which begs the question for whose benefit is having your arse cheeks on display?

OP posts:
BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 10:16

OP, for whose benefit is ANYTHING we wear really?

Heels aren't comfortable but women wear those daily.

Chickpea212 · 16/06/2017 10:33

To be fair I worked in fashion B&M and all those women dress to impress other women.

HildaOg · 16/06/2017 10:34

If I could get back the arse I had at 25 I'd happily get them out. Your body's only young and beautiful for a short time, plenty of time for covering when it looks better covered.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/06/2017 10:38

Eurgh.

Sweaty armpits.
Topless blokes showing all their hairy gut spill.

And the number of motorcyclists I've seen in shorts /TShirts and in one case (Yes you , tearing down Woodford High Road in just a pair of shorts and training shoes you wanker Angry ) if you take a tumble and leave half your skin and muscle on the tarmac I feel for the Paramedic who has to scrape you up.

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 16/06/2017 10:51

Oh yes, I think that too 70, it makes me shudder when I see people riding motorbikes etc without protective clothing.

MumBod · 16/06/2017 10:53

Okay, I don't understand this.

If you have a pretty arse, but you don't want anyone to look at it, why get it out?
