to think your arse cheeks should be WITHIN your shorts, rather than hanging out.

Just walked up a hill behind 2 of the (much) younger generation.

It is a hot day. Shorts are good. But these girls in front of me had shorts of a length I would have regarded PE knickers to be in the late 80's /90's.

Is this a 'thing' now, to have your arse cheeks on display? I thought outer clothing was meant to cover them. AIBU?

RubbishMantra · 15/06/2017 01:52

My mother had a fondness for wearing hangy out arse cheeks shorts well into her 40s. But doesn't like seeing men with their tops off, which includes my dad...

tillytown · 15/06/2017 02:02

YABU, womens clothes are always too tight, short, long, slutty, old-fashioned, etc.. who the fuck actually cares

Argeles · 15/06/2017 02:02

I think the arse cheek look is indecent, especially in urban areas where it really looks out of place. Near to the beach, perhaps people could get away with this look.

I especially can't stand seeing teenagers dressed like this. Hot pants would be ok, but not these 'knicker-like' shorts.

VoteMe · 15/06/2017 02:10

I think it looks tacky whether it's male or female cheeks on display. 🍑

I don't like builders bum either

Out2pasture · 15/06/2017 02:17

What boggles my mind is when the shorts are so short that the fabric portion in between the legs is an inch wide. They bend over and the vajayjay flesh is all on display....

Itsreallyme · 15/06/2017 02:21

I run a riding school and all the young staff and then consequently the young volunteers would rock up in shorts which looked like they last wore them when they were five. Hmm
Now I am no prude but when all you can see whilst trying to teach is row upon row of young ladies leading ponies round the school with their bum checks on show, it gets very Shock Hmm Confused Blush
No wonder we had lots of dads bringing their little darlings for their riding lessons.
Needless to say some 'intervention' was required and I made a big hoo haa out of it and said I don't want to walk around all day and be confronted by your arse cheeks - GET SHORTS THAT FIT!
Problem fixed Grin

Trumpton · 15/06/2017 02:22

It reminds me of this ditty from the 60s

"If skirts get much shorter"
Said the fairy to the gnome.
"There'll be two more cheeks to powder,
And a lot more hair to comb"

BigYellowJumper · 15/06/2017 02:31

itsreallyme Maybe your focus should be on pervy dads not ogling young girls.

KoalaDownUnder · 15/06/2017 03:01

No, seriously. I was walking along behind a mother and her daughter a few years back. Posh part of town, mother in very conservative/expensive/tasteful outfit, both with the full swishy-hair, designer handbag, etc. I'm not exaggerating when I say that fully half the daughter's arse cheeks were out the bottom of her shorts. Walking next to her mother. It was astonishing.

daisychain01 · 15/06/2017 03:03

It must be very difficult for a bloke not to have a good ogle at a nice pair of buttock cheeks. It's like when someone has a zit on their chin, no matter how you try to not look at it, your eyes keep wandering back.

BigYellowJumper · 15/06/2017 03:06

daisy You think it's totally fine for dad-aged men WITH THEIR KIDS to be staring at young women?

Someone is being inappropriate here, and it sure as fuck isn't the women.

If I see a guy with nice arms or a six pack, I manage to stop myself staring with my tongue hanging out.

KoalaDownUnder · 15/06/2017 03:19

I agree that grown men should be able to keep their eyes to themselves.

It's pervs like these who make it difficult for the decent men - like my exP, who stopped going to see his teenage daughter play netball unless I could go too, because he was getting 'looks'. Sad

InionEile · 15/06/2017 03:25

Personally I detest this current trend for short-shorts but can't see it as a sign of Armageddon being nigh since teenage girls have always tried to push the boundaries on fashion, going all the way back to the 60s with mini-skirts and hot pants.

Sometimes I have to do a double-take because some girls look like they're walking around in their underwear - that looks cheap, I think. I have joked with DH that I hope the trend is over in 15 years by the time our 2 year old is testing out 'edgy' fashions. Otherwise I'm going to have to look into secluded boarding school options with strict dress codes for her Grin Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 15/06/2017 03:40

You think you've got 15 years? You're very optimistic. Grin

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 15/06/2017 06:28

Such sweet optimism Grin
My DD had her own opinions and fashion ideas much earlier than that!

humblesims · 15/06/2017 06:37

It does make me feel old; but then, I am pretty old. It was ever thus. They are harming no one and you really are only young once. Make the most of it I say. The fashion that really gets my goat is jeans with slitted knees. Just looks awful.

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2017 06:47

I thought batty-riders were out of teen fashion now? Don't see them round here so much now!

Buttonmushoomex · 15/06/2017 06:51

If they wear with comfort and confidence fair enough.

However I see far too many girls standing sumo style at the bus stop to hoike their wedge of denim seam out of their front and back cracks.

Now that's not a good look 😂

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 15/06/2017 06:51

I walked behind a young girl with her arse cheeks hanging out the other day. It wasn't the arse, it was the evil looking sunburn on the arse that got me. Ouch.

roundaboutthetown · 15/06/2017 07:18

Another fashion which for most people is both a bit uncomfortable to wear and looks aesthetically unpleasing. Still, it has always been the way with fashion - impractical clothing which doesn't actually suit most of the people wearing it, but which is temporarily essential wear for anyone keenly interested in fashion (or who is young and doesn't want to be teased for being unfashionable)!

It suits some people, just hardly any!

fishonabicycle · 15/06/2017 07:32

I saw a girl riding a bike with a shirt and pants that fully revealed half her arse cheeks a few days back. It was impossible not to stare!

Decaffstilltastesweird · 15/06/2017 07:56

It suits some people, just hardly any!

^^This!

I wore some gross stuff which didn't suit me as a teenager though. Nothing revealing, as I was a fat teen Sad. I'm thinner now, but too old and pregnant to wear anything like this Grin.

The downside for teenagers today is social media. At least my terrible outfits aren't all over t'interweb!

user1471545174 · 15/06/2017 08:09

YANBU OP, it's awful! I remember hot pants and the rubbish fabrics clung to the whole bum, plus the wearer normally had heavy duty American tan tights on under them, so it wasn't a comparable look.

user1471545174 · 15/06/2017 08:10

(Awful in its own way, but no under-bum).

TheNaze73 · 15/06/2017 08:29

YABU a bit. Surely it's down to individual choice?

Summer does tend to bring the worst out in women & men. Some people obviously don't possess mirrors, or honest friends.
