To think Tim Farron has awful timing?

Seriously? He chose today to publicly resign and have his little televised pity party?

Christ, I was relatively ok about the guy before this , but today was not the day!

"I love Tim Farron."

What do you love about him?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 14/06/2017 23:15

What do you love about him?

I used to live in his constituency a few years ago; he's exceptionally hands on. You see him about an about, he takes part in local events and personally answers mail and so on.

He really is a wonderful man.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017

I remember being surprised at how he substantially increased his majority in 2015 when most of LDs lost their seats, and those that kept them had their majorities slashed. I guessed he must have been an outstanding constituency MP... which of course as party leader he couldn't really be, which may explain how his majority is now quite small.

dotdotdot3 · 15/06/2017 09:31

I am beginning to think that the Lib Dems are lining themselves up for a coalition with the Tories. Apparently there is talk of Vince Cable acting as Lib Dem Leader until the formal process is undertaken.

It would appeal to the Tories much more than an agreement with the DUP for obvious reasons.

"History repeats ... first as tragedy, then as farce" .

soapboxqueen · 15/06/2017 09:39

I can't imagine they would dotdot. It was so damaging last time, many new lib dems have come over from the labour party and they are diametrically opposed over brexit.

dotdotdot3 · 15/06/2017 09:45

I do hope you're right soapbox.

No, that's not why he didn't get a huge majority this time. He's still the same outstanding constituency leader, but his pro-Brexit stance and wanting to turn stop it pissed off the half of the constituency that voted Leave and felt he was trying to undermine their choice, hence the almost 50/50 split between him and James Airey.

BertrandRussell · 15/06/2017 13:45

Being a good constituency MP does not make you a "wonderful man"

soapboxqueen · 15/06/2017 13:57

I do too dotdot Don't want to have left 3 political parties in 12 months Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 15/06/2017 14:01

BertrandRussell It makes him one; he's exceptional.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 15/06/2017 14:05
  • Anti-Brexit stance that should say in my above comment.
Flumpernickel · 15/06/2017 14:24

I could bitch slap TM right now.

She should have met with the residents. They need to be heard, I get that they will be (quite rightly) angry at the moment, and The tories dont want another bloody nose, but I have lost a lot of respect for her for not facing up to this and hearing these poor people and their plights. I am quite frankly apalled at our leaders right now.

Fuck ratings and polls. Do the right thing.

Channel 4 News' Robert Hamilton asked Theresa May why she didn't visit survivors/relatives and she didn't answer. She couldn't actually even properly answer whether the government's decision to delay the fire safety report might have contributed to Grenfell. She wasn't even first to call for an inquiry.
All things considered I'd say Theresa May is essentially Nicola Murray from the Thick of It.

FreakOfNurture · 15/06/2017 21:14

She's finished.

UnderneaththeArchers · 15/06/2017 21:32

Not only did Paddick start the whole thing by resigning (and tweeting which others joined in with) , he and others went to visit Farron yesterday and told him he should go. Clearly Tim had not intended to step down, 3 hours earlier he had announced a Deputy Leader contest. I know most of the country really couldn't care less about the niceties (and indeed won't have even noticed) but I think we can on here!

TheDogAteMyGoatskinVellum · 16/06/2017 07:04

Absolutely. Although I dunno about most of the country not noticing because it was on the BBC and major newspaper sites before Farron went. But yeah, Paddick forced Farron's hand, that day. Anyone who thinks he'd have been allowed to delay until Thursday out of respect, without being hounded and accused of using the tragedy to try and cling on, is living on another planet.
