So I haven't seen FIL for a few weeks, during that time I have been on holiday and gained weight. I have steadily been gaining anyway, since February I have put on almost a stone and a half.
FiL blurted out - are you pregnant??
I am categorically not pregnant.
I have known I am gaining weight but I am due to have my jaws broken in a few months so kind of Stuck my head in the sand thinking it will come off anyway soon.
Well after that comment I have joined back at slimming world.
Dp is not impressed and gone mad at his dad for being rude and making me join slimming world but I wasn't offended. He had a very valid point although he could have been more tactful.
So does it look like I am being a drama queen now by joining a slimming club?

Pictures in the poor man's defence, I really do look pregnant!

I remember reading about Rochelle Humes (sp?) gaining weight around her tummy and she had a harmless ovarian cyst.
Not trying to worry you, I have health anxiety about ovarian things myself and would be feeling sick if someone suggested that to me. However, previous posters have mentioned scary things so just hoping to put your mind at rest that it's probably something harmless and fixable like that, especially if you have had a cyst in the past. The dr will probably send you for a scan just to check for cysts, etc.

My step mother also worried about the same thing a few years back. She gained a lot of weight on her stomach and her co workers suggested ovarian cysts so she went for an ultrasound. She had no cysts, just fat.

Btw, if you are worried and focusing on it, it will just ache more and more.

Notanotheruser111 · 14/06/2017 08:04

Have you ever had endometriosis.? They've just run a huge campaign on it where I am and funnily bleeding, bloating and abdominal cramping/pain were all symptoms

AlmostAJillSandwich · 14/06/2017 08:26

I had symptoms like yours, the tiredness all the time, tummy pain, gas, apparent bloating, digestive problems, etc (minus bleeding, i have an implant and dont get any bleeding) and had a bunch of blood tests to test for coeliac, coliitis, diabetes and thyroid function.

My tests came back my thyroid hormones are low, got a repeat on the30th to decide if i need meds, but i have all the classic symptoms, dry skin everywhere, sensitivity to cold, extreme tiredness, and bad reflexes. I did also have an inflamation reading of 2, but OD prevented me doing a stool sample to test further for potential mild colitis, so just diagnosed IBS. I also have an overactive unstable bladder, i'm wondering now from this thread if i might need to ask and be checked for possible fibroids when im back on the 12th july as my altered diet hasnt reduced the digestive symptoms as it should have.

Did your blood tests check for possible IBS or IBD? Coeliac can be symptomless with symptoms developing later in life so it IS possible you have it and just recently started experiencing symptoms. The roundness of your tummy would suggest it is more likely bloating and not fat, or a mixture of both, i am overweight and carry worst on my tummy but its more apron type than rounded like a baby bump. That said, my dad is overweight and has a rock hard stomach that is exactly like a baby bump, so it is technically possible to carry fat like that.

NachoAddict · 14/06/2017 09:07

Thanks everyone for posting, I do think I am just piling weight on but I haven't really changed my diet.

Oct/Nov I lost weight without trying it just kept slipping off went from 8st 9 which was my usual weight to 8st 3, stayed there a couple of weeks and then from Dec I have gone back up now to 9st 11. Again no change to diet.
Around Feb I started needing to nap most days around 5ish, literally can't keep my eyes open. Some days worse than others.
Also started bleeding in Feb which lasted 2 months and has gone back to normal now, also felt sick every evening but that has subsided now too.

OP glad you have a GP app't booked, but suggest you call your surgery and ask if they can move the app'r forward
I hope everything is ok however if I were you I would want to be seen asap to rule some things out

lobsterface · 14/06/2017 11:26

Hi nacho

Sorry I wasn't trying to panic you - it was a really rare tumour I had and took a lot of time to get diagnosed. It's very very unlikely this is what you have but non malignant cysts are not uncommon and can grow massively in a short space of time.

Don't leave the gp without having your stomach felt - please. As everyone has said it's probably nothing but in the one and a million chance it is something it's so so important to get it fixed as soon as possible.

PersianCatLady · 14/06/2017 12:02

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread yet but that dress is making your stomach look worse.

Unless you are really slim anything that clings like that will show every lump and bump.

If you want to lose weight, rather than joining SW why don't you try My Fitness Pal.

You can download the app for Android or iPhone or you can use the website.

NachoAddict · 14/06/2017 12:11

Lobster I am really glad you posted, even if I turn out to just be pudgy it might inspire someone else to get looked at. Awareness is never a bad thing. I will insist she has a feel.

Persian I have myfitnesspal already and rarely last longer than 2 days logging my food. I just don't have the commitment. I like the group support and weigh ins that come with slimmingworld, the recipes and the Facebook group. All of those things really help me.

I find MFP really easy but my friend can't stand it so she is doing SW.

If you want to lose weight then try SW but don't let your FIL pressure you into doing something that you don't want to do.

Slimming World works for me, I have lost my baby weight each time using it and had kept it off this time for about 2 years before suddenly blooming. I usually stick between 8 and a half to 9, never in my life other than pregnant and immediately afterwards have I weighed over 9 and a half, now I have managed to get to 9st 11lb without really realising. Sad

Give it a go!!

BillSykesDog · 14/06/2017 14:38

I had similar (including farts) which was related to a hiatus hernia. Had surgery about 12 years ago no problems since.

lobsterface · 14/06/2017 18:10

Brew when is your appointment?

I'm a bit over zealous because the gp didn't feel my stomach till the 5th appointment or so!

Hoping it's just a bit of extra weight and an unflattering dress Flowers

NachoAddict · 14/06/2017 18:36

Appointment is tomorrow afternoon. If she tries to go me off I will insist, better she wastes 2 mins if her time feeling my belly than me suffer anxiety for God knows how long.

The surgery have called me and the doctor I saw last is off, they have the option of seeing her on Monday or seeing someone else tomorrow so I have asked to kwep my appointment but with someone else.

namechangeforholiday · 14/06/2017 19:07

Glad you are seeing someone tomorrow OP & hope it goes well

haveacupoftea · 14/06/2017 19:11

I looked like that when I had an ovarian cyst. It was 15cm around. I had a couple of episodes of quite severe abdominal pain and bad period pain but I thought I was constipated those times/just getting fat. Although I remember being in the bath and turning onto my front and feeling like I was lying on a hard ball in my stomach. My tummy was hard...should probably have been a clue.

NachoAddict · 15/06/2017 15:55

Well been seen by the doctor, she didnt seem concerned about my stomach and didn't feel it, she just prescribed me folic acid and iron tablets as those results had come back low on the tests I had done last time.
She said I can try cutting out gluten or diary and see if it helps.

OP posts:
lobsterface · 15/06/2017 15:58

Keep an eye on it, I'm sure it will be something like gluten intolerance but if it doesn't go down I'd go back and insist on her examining.

Screwinthetuna · 15/06/2017 16:15

Glad you went, op. Hope you start feeling better soon. Silicol gel (boots, Superdrug etc sell it) works very well for bloating.

NachoAddict · 15/06/2017 16:43

Thanks, I am going to try cutting out gluten for a couple of weeks, keep a food diary and see if it makes a difference plus a few weeks at slimming world will either get rid of it if it's fat or make it more obvious if it's not, as I will lose weight elsewhere.

OP posts:
INeedANameChange · 15/06/2017 17:27

Your doctor didn't seem concerned about your stomach? And didn't even examine it?! Seriously?

See another doctor! Unexplained bleeding and bloating are major warning signs!

My MIL saw 13 different doctors before she was eventually diagnosed with a brain tumour (by her bloody optician who sent her to A&E) so IME GPs aren't exactly always on the ball...

picklemepopcorn · 15/06/2017 17:31

Didn't examine you? Ridiculous. Maybe she didn't realise the change this is for you.

NachoAddict · 15/06/2017 18:15

All she said about the bleeding was that it would explain why I am iron deficient and when i mentioned the weight gain and it all being around my middle she said well other than the thyroid which had come back clear she can only suggest keeping a food diary.

Maybe I should make another appointment with the original GP?

OP posts:
PeaFaceMcgee · 15/06/2017 18:59

I'm sorry, but she sounds utterly incompetent. To not palpate a tummy that has grown that much in just a few months, alongside your other symptoms, is just ignorance. Do arrange to see someone else ASAP.

Screwinthetuna · 15/06/2017 19:00

Perhaps she isn't worried if you have had bloods and the bloods would have highlighted something worrying?
