So I haven't seen FIL for a few weeks, during that time I have been on holiday and gained weight. I have steadily been gaining anyway, since February I have put on almost a stone and a half.
FiL blurted out - are you pregnant??
I am categorically not pregnant.
I have known I am gaining weight but I am due to have my jaws broken in a few months so kind of Stuck my head in the sand thinking it will come off anyway soon.
Well after that comment I have joined back at slimming world.
Dp is not impressed and gone mad at his dad for being rude and making me join slimming world but I wasn't offended. He had a very valid point although he could have been more tactful.
So does it look like I am being a drama queen now by joining a slimming club?

Pictures in the poor man's defence, I really do look pregnant!

You look like a very slim
Woman with a small bump

In all seriousness have you got any issues with bloating or fibroids as you are categorically not fat Flowers

Sallystyle · 13/06/2017 21:34

That is exactly how I look with my IBS and trapped wind.

I am always full of wind (once I get over the four hour pain of it being trapped) and my stomach bloats like that within minutes of me eating. It's proper shit.

Of course with your other symptoms and it needs checking out. You have gained weight elsewhere too and I put my weight on straight onto my stomach.

Keep us updated won't you? :) I hope it all turns out to be nothing but weight gain.

spidey66 · 13/06/2017 21:37

A couple of years back, I was diagnosed as having a massive fibroid. I didn't have major problems with my periods (not until I was diagnosed with the fibroid lol) in fact I was misdiagnosed as having IBS and an overactive bladder, but in fact the fibroid was so big it was pressing on other organs. I ended up having to have a hysterectomy, by which time the fibroid was the size of a 7 month pregnancy. Blush

I'm pretty overweight anyway and tend to gain weight round my tummy so to me it was just fat!

Hopefully it's not that-I was in my late 40s and a fibroid that big takes years to grow. And I would only recommend a hysterectomy if you're certain you don't want (any more-I don't know if you have any) kids-I don't have them but at 49 I was unlikely to.

The point I'm making really is that occasionally an underlying medical condition, while unlikely, can cause the sort of weight gain you've had. As you're seeing your GP, it's worth mentioning.

-I've still got a massive belly though.-

spidey66 · 13/06/2017 21:37

Strike through fail on last sentence.

NachoAddict · 13/06/2017 21:41

It probably is just excess weight and I had not long eaten dinner when i took the picture but I had Indian spiced citrus chicken kebabs with a big pile of veg and Muller yogurt so nothing there to cause bloating?

I have 3 children, youngest is almost 5 and I am certain I don't want more (hence two forms of contraception)

INeedANameChange · 13/06/2017 21:42

I'm glad you're going to the gp. In the nicest and most well meaning possible way, having that much belly up front isn't normal in the slightest, particularly over such a short time period and when you're a natural size 8.

I'm an 8 now but that's after dieting to lose two stone, also on SW, I gain everywhere and not just out front, and my weight gain is usuallymwine nad takeaway related which is notorious for frontal weight gain.

spidey66 · 13/06/2017 21:45

Just out of nosiness why are your jaws being broken?

JaceLancs · 13/06/2017 21:49

I bloated very badly like you x I'm not coeliac but went gluten free and feel so much better
I don't buy substitutes they all taste awful anyway
Just stick to meat fish poultry dairy eggs fruit veg and salad
I'm much less tired and have lost weight but most important don't look 6/7 months pregnant most of the time anymore

NachoAddict · 13/06/2017 21:50

namechange I rarely drink, I would say maybe every 3 months? And take away at most once every 3 weeks/once a month.

Spidey I have braces at the moment and am having double jaw surgery and genioplasty sometime this year to realign my jaws. They will remove bone from the top jaw and shift it up, cut the bottom jaw and slide it forwards and then wore the whole lots shut, liquid diet for 6 weeks.

Yes - I actually think that you should go to the GP as I am worried that there is a medical issue.

NachoAddict · 13/06/2017 21:54

Jace, did you struggle without pasta and bread?

BewareOfDragons · 13/06/2017 21:58

Such a rapid weight gain that isn't 'all over' but only in the abdominal area is concerning. Plus other unusual symptoms: tiredness, pain, bleeding. I'm glad you're getting checked out, OP.

thereallochnessmonster · 13/06/2017 22:00

Hmm, I think I'd be worried if I'd put on that much weight all on my tummy in a short space of time - do you think you should go to your GP and get checked out?

Best wishes.

thereallochnessmonster · 13/06/2017 22:02

Nice silver cushions in your bedroom - where are they from?

NachoAddict · 13/06/2017 22:07

They are from Amazon. Thanks Grin

Screwinthetuna · 13/06/2017 22:08

Is it flat in the morning and comes on gradually throughout the day or is it like that when you wake?
I have IBS and bloat badly but it always disappears overnight, only to come on after eating the next day.

Hopefully just ibs/hormonal/weight gain but do let us know how you get on at the dr :)

tigerdriverII · 13/06/2017 22:09

Please get it properly checked out.

I had a swollen tummy 19 years ago literally the day after our wedding. I'd had bloating and shooting pains, and random farting, for a few weeks. Turned out to be an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. It was malign, but totally containable by surgery.

I maintain that the tight corset of my wedding dress sorted all this out.

NachoAddict · 13/06/2017 22:18

I am not sure Tuna, I have been kind of ignoring it. I will take a picture in the morning.

Tiger, I had a cyst which ruptured whwn I was 17 but had nothing since. Just another thibg to add to the list for checking.

Cinderllaspinkdresswasthebest · 13/06/2017 22:21

Another who says get it checked out (which I know you are)

I'm a size 8 and my stomach looked like I was 5 months pregnant - coupled with loss of periods for several months then irregular bleeding, lethargy and a 'hard' stomach I went for a scan and I had a huge cyst on my ovary. Day case laparoscopic surgery to remove it and almost instantly stomach back to flat (well, a week or two after the swelling and bruising had gone down!)

Good luck OP Smile

NotMyPenguin · 13/06/2017 22:28

I think you should definitely talk to your GP. The key things that would concern me are:

  • how quickly this extra weight has appeared
  • that it is all around your tummy (you look very slim elsewhere)
  • the associated fatigue

Really hope all is well but this doesn't seem normal even for weight gain (more 'all over') or the kind of bloating one might get with gluten intolerance (less visible).

NachoAddict · 13/06/2017 22:28

Having a good old poke and it doesn't feel solid which is a positive sign? It's probably not as squishy as my boobs but not hard like pregnant bellies?

OP posts:
Cinderllaspinkdresswasthebest · 13/06/2017 22:49

Nacho we can all sit here deliberating what it could be - it could be many things, and most likely not serious.

You won't know until you get checked out - insist on a scan when you see your GP - I've heard too many horror stories of people being fobbed off for months x

Groupie123 · 14/06/2017 06:48

You need to overhaul your diet and do exercise such as walking/weights etc. Belly fat can only be lost by diet unfortunately

JaceLancs · 14/06/2017 07:39

Nacho - no not really - I do miss bread a bit but cakes n biscuits were worse - I just eat chocolate n ice cream instead when I need a sweet fix

NachoAddict · 14/06/2017 07:41

Well for those that asked I have took some morning photos I am happy to oblige. I have even put on the same dress for ease of comparison. So personally I think it has maybe reduced a little but definitley still pregnant looking.
It kind of aches too, like I am aware of it in a way that I just don't think about my arms legs etc, if that makes sense? I put that down to being so big and heavy to carry about?
