How do I deal with this?

Without realising it, I have become addicted to co codamol. I was taking 30/500 once a day, sometimes twice.
3 tablets at night time and 1 or 2 during the day sometimes.

I ran out on Saturday and haven't had any since. I'm in cold turkey and I feel wretched.

I didn't know I was addicted, didn't realise I would run out and haven't prepared for this.

I'm very anxious, sleeping is a problem. I feel very jittery and almost flu like. I can't concentrate and feel very nervous.

Can any of you share your experiences of this? How long did it last for and what have you done to help manage the symptoms.

I'm at work but doing the bare minimum as I'm just about functioning. I have 2 kids so hiding away from this isn't an option. Thanks in advance

Oh thank you so much ladies. And well done Rita!!! Baby steps!
Snow... that is awesome after 25 years!!! Unreal!

I take responsibility for allowing this addiction to develop. I'm an adult, a home owner with an amazing husband and 2 lovely kids. I drove a nice car and my kids go to a great school... I tick none of the boxes for a drug addict yet this is what I ended up being... I hold down a high pressured professional job... doesn't fit the stereotype.
GP's definitely had these over too easily. People need to me made aware of the dangers..!!

Just wanted to add that I have heard of this - among close friends - a lot. And many don't face up their addiction and enjoy the 'codeine/co-codamol cuddle' - I've had it once or twice and you do sleep like a baby. Forgive yourself for the addiction side and try and find a way out. You will do. Good luck x

Hi guys ...o am addicted too...my gp.puts 30mg on repeat and it let's me get more every 4 days or so. I have had 14 pills today. Been on them for about 6 years on repeat with no questions asked. I am worried

Poisongirl81 · 15/06/2017 23:36

The thing is I can take 4 and not feel anything...even 6 x 30mg

I must have a huge tolerance now.

TheSnowFairy · 15/06/2017 23:40

poison the op was often taking 5 a day. You can do it

Poisongirl81 · 15/06/2017 23:44

I've taken 14 today. Just checked and they have been on repeat for 8 years. It started at 2 a day but has crept up....i don't even feel.good taking them it's just that I crave them. No one would guess...im a mum have a house a good job etc.

My liver is also suffering. I am in a cycle I can't stop.

Poisongirl81 · 15/06/2017 23:46

kali110 · 15/06/2017 23:58

Poisongirl81 · 16/06/2017 00:00

Thank you but it is my fault. I'm the one who orders more and more....they can't micro manage every patient....i had a back issue years ago so that's why i got put in them. I just don't feel anything from them any more but I still can't stop and I don't know why.. ..😓 I got my script for 28 yesterday and have 2 left today.

Poisongirl81 · 16/06/2017 00:01

My liver tests show a high result so I had a scan but they said I was ok. I put it down to alcohol when they asked.

Poisongirl81 · 16/06/2017 00:03

If I can't get them.for whatever reason I will take Nurofen plus or solpadeine max...4 of each a time which worries me more than the straight codeine. Sorry to hijack your thread op.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 16/06/2017 00:06

Poison do you want to stop ? I'm sure you won't be the first person your GP has seen with this problem and they can help wean you off them X

HorridHenryrule · 16/06/2017 00:07

I tick none of the boxes for a drug addict yet this is what I ended up being... I hold down a high pressured professional job... doesn't fit the stereotype.

What does a drug addict look like they come from all walks of life. Next time I would suggest seeing a chiropractor all your gp will give you is medication.

Poisongirl81 · 16/06/2017 00:09

I do want to but I feel.i need them
..its part of my daily routine now.. I don't know how to get out of it. Very occasionally I get migraines and they do help then. I would be scared if I couldn't get them incase of a migraine but if I have them here I will take them. X

HorridHenryrule · 16/06/2017 00:11

Poison go to rehab now you are killing yourself. Does anyone else know about your addiction who can give you support. Seek help before its to late.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 16/06/2017 00:14

It's very easy to become addicted to prescription drugs . It's not like taking heroin , where you know it's not good for you . You start taking pills prescribed by a doctor for a legitimate reason and inadvertently become addicted.

I really think a warning should flash up on GP's computers when painkillers have been prescribed more than say 6 times .

CondensedMilkSarnies · 16/06/2017 00:16

It's a vicious circle , if you don't take them you get a headache , so you take them to stop the headache and round and round you go .

HorridHenryrule · 16/06/2017 00:39

This thread reminds me of how poor Michael Jackson died.

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2374093/The-safe-painkiller-turning-unsuspecting-women-drug-addicts.html

its really horrible to watch as somebody you know or love is weaned off them, and really awful when you have to experience coming off them, but they are an awful drug, you can be addicted within days without realising.

ticketytock1 · 16/06/2017 10:02

Poison please go get help. You can do it. I only had 3 days of it being bad then by day 4 I felt so much better.
I continued going about my normal daily tasks.. work, kids etc
I no longer have the cloudy head feeling and feel so much healthier for not having the codene in my system

Hi update. I'm actually on holiday now I haven't had any for 3 days because I cant. It's hard work and I'm tempted to go to the Dr here but it would cost nearly 100 euros!

kali110 · 24/06/2017 17:23

Goodluck! I only suffered few days coming off something a hell of a lot stronger aswell as this. You will get through it! Im not looking forward to going through it again if i ever have too!

Badbadtromance · 24/06/2017 17:59

I'm currently on subutex for a massive addiction to cocodamol and dyhidrocodiene. I was on repeat scripts since before I had kids and oldest is 15. Gps dole them out like Smarties. When I asked GP why he stated that he had loads of patients on them and no-one else had a problem!

ticketytock1 · 24/06/2017 18:16

Poison this is it, you will be over the worst now.. day 3/4 are the hardest. Well done!! FlowersStar
Bad romance that is shocking!!
