As above, your house, what on earth possessed you to let a friend lay a disposable BBQ on a wooden base?

WomblingThree · 13/06/2017 12:01

If it's a rented house then how do you know how much the decking cost?? Why did you call it flooring? Why will it take months to fix? Why do I even care so much?

So many unanswered questions.

Shadow666 · 13/06/2017 12:08

Death by mumsnet dripfeed torture. Grin

unfortunateevents · 13/06/2017 12:19

Wombling Op didn't say she knew how much the decking cost but let's face it, any repair is going to be expensive. If the house is rented, a patch-up which might be acceptable in your own home is not going to be accepted by the landlord. Also when she says it will take months I don't think she is talking about the repair itself but how long it will take to get the money from her friend. OP, how bad is the damage. Has it just blackened the decking or actually scorched the wood?

ilikelampxyz · 13/06/2017 18:51

Blackened and scorched wood. No i wasn't present. Pretty pissed off.

Right seriously this a mumsnet fail. Tell us the full story in one post!!!

RightOnTheEdge · 13/06/2017 19:01

Fgs can you stop dripping and just spit it out? Hmm
Why was you df having a bbq when you weren't there?

ilikelampxyz · 13/06/2017 19:03

I don't really want to as it's outing. It's someone I live with, shared house, used a disposable BBQ on shared decking (fuck knows why) and scorched it badly. I just don't get why you would do that.

IdontTrusther · 13/06/2017 19:03

wow I cant see how hard this is to fix either, what dramatics. sand it down then re stain the wood.

LIZS · 13/06/2017 19:05

Presumably it was an accident. If they are also tenants why can't they deal with it?

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 13/06/2017 19:06

DF = dear father

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 13/06/2017 19:06

Well that's what I assumed.

ilikelampxyz · 13/06/2017 19:09

It's burnt the wood - like burnt it off

OP posts:
trulybadlydeeply · 13/06/2017 19:10

Well if they are a tenant also, then it's their problem.

kaytee87 · 13/06/2017 19:12

If it's a rented property then it will need to be fixed or replaced obviously and I don't see why op should have to pay if they weren't there at the time.

AngelaTwerkel · 13/06/2017 19:12

There we go: DF = Dear Flatmate.

Dizzybacon · 13/06/2017 19:15

The disposable BBQsare what, a foot wide, so maybe four lengths of decking? Is it that difficult to replace? I'm assuming the BBQ was bang in the middle of the decking, yes a numpty for not standing it on something but it was an accident.

wowfudge · 13/06/2017 19:15

Well DF needs to pay to get it sorted out then.

Dizzybacon · 13/06/2017 19:16

Any pictures??

Redsippycup · 13/06/2017 19:24

I don't understand why you are involved - surely it's between him and the landlord? Unless he is your lodger?

sexcauldron · 13/06/2017 19:25

I call bullshit

troodiedoo · 13/06/2017 19:26

I was not expecting this plot twist!

ComputerUserNotTrained · 13/06/2017 20:03
