Df has burnt my garden decking. Aibu to be quite upset? Have said he will sort and pay but I know it will take months.

OP posts:
BusterGonad · 12/06/2017 09:06

Maybe F slipped over when it was wet then burnt it down for revenge! I know I'd be tempted myself! Grin

pipsqueak25 · 12/06/2017 09:08

i was expecting expensive indoor flooring tbh not decking, but that aside it is annoying, how much damage was done, could you replace damaged area or does the whole lot need to be done ?
as pp have said you've not really given enough info tbh for us to say.

pipsqueak25 · 12/06/2017 09:09

i don't like decking either for those reasons pp, but it would be helpful if she got back to us so we can help Smile

pipsqueak25 · 12/06/2017 09:17

echt sorry but i can't help but Grin at that, my ex bil made a BIG show of building decking himself to the point he nearly announced it in the national press, two seasons on and it had fallen in through bad support and wood not being treated, now i hate bad stuff happening to people but it couldn't have happened to a twattier, arrogant person Grin

LightastheBreeze · 12/06/2017 09:27

So are we talking fag burn, coal burn, or the whole lot. if either of the first 2 won't a new plank be all it needs.

ArchieStar · 12/06/2017 09:32

@ilikelampxyz need more info

BadTasteFlump · 12/06/2017 09:35

I didn't know you could get expensive decking. And if it's outside it's not flooring IMO.

ThreeFish · 12/06/2017 09:50

Decking is not flooring, and surely the whole lot does not need replaced?

BadTasteFlump · 12/06/2017 09:57

We used to have decking and it was a PITA - slippery, dangerous and a lovely little hidey hole underneath for creatures .

I would see this as a good excuse to rip it all up and have something better.

WooWooSister · 12/06/2017 09:58

I agree with everyone above. I'm just posting to see if the OP ever comes back with a more detailed explanation ie why is it flooring if it's decking? how much of it was burnt? why can't that one section be replaced?

SouthChinaMorningPost · 12/06/2017 09:59

omg just sand it

BusterGonad · 12/06/2017 10:06

BadTasteFlump what's expensive to some isn't to others.

Loopytiles · 12/06/2017 10:28

Am imagining the friend had a BBQ or something and burnt a hole!

SandyDenny · 12/06/2017 10:32

Get the money, order the decking from B&Q, and get him to replace it. Sorted in a few days. Or is that just me?

You must live in a very simple world, what if DF whoever he/she is doesn't have the money, the wood for the decking isn't available in a high street retailer and DF doesn't magically happen to have the skills required.

So, yes, just you who can't see that it's very unlikely to be as easy as that or presumably the OP wouldn't need to post about it.

GrandDesespoir · 12/06/2017 10:49

Presumably because "DF" can't afford to pay it all at once. It's obvious.

If it was obvious you wouldn't need to presume anything. Modus ponens. Or not, as the case may be.

BusterGonad · 12/06/2017 10:51

Sandy I agree with you, so many people seem to just be able to flash the cash and everything is fixed, When I first had my son even £50 seemed like a fortune, now thankfully I'm a bit better off, I would never presume that anyone can easily afford stuff.

trulybadlydeeply · 12/06/2017 11:08

Op we need more information in order to comment helpfully. It could be either of these extremes from what you have said

Df damaged expensive flooring

BusterGonad · 12/06/2017 11:13

Truly I think it's number 2!

ComputerUserNotTrained · 12/06/2017 11:26

I don't think we'll ever know :(

BusterGonad · 12/06/2017 11:35

My biggest bugbear is not knowing who the eff DF is!!!

BadTasteFlump · 12/06/2017 11:52

I love these threads where OP starts with one teeny little bit of vagueness and never comes back - but the thread carries on for days with everybody else making the story up as they go along Grin

crashandburnt · 12/06/2017 11:54

Insurance?

troodiedoo · 12/06/2017 12:53

I've always wanted decking but this has put me off really.

BadTasteFlump · 12/06/2017 13:01

Honestly troodie I wouldn't have any again.

Even Alan Titchmarsh said he felt bad for encouraging everybody to install it because it's crap (or words to that effect Grin).

user1492692527 · 12/06/2017 13:11

I wouldnt have decking again either. Had a raised deck (about 2 foot off the ground) some years ago when it was the height of fashion according to Ground Force. First winter it was like a skating rink, then some rats thought it would make a nice house underneath. I got rid pdq!
