We've been discussing/arguing about this over breakfast. I reckon May won't last and we'll have another election within 3 months. DH thinks she is going to hold on regardless. DT's (one who is doing politics at Uni) are fed up with it and have said they don't care.

Elections are always on a Thursday , the 4th November is a Saturday, 26 Oct is a Tuesday. I'd urge caution before putting money on at the bookies!

That'll teach me for trying to remember dates off the top of my head while I've got a bloody cold (and can't take anything except paracetamol because I'm bloody pregnant, so I'm also woefully undercaffeinated).

26 October is a Thursday, and I meant 2 November.

For there to be another election the Tories would have to call it. I don't think that all of the other parties combined have enough seats to pass anything against the Tories as Sinn Fein boycott Westminster. So they would only call one if they were certain of gaining a majority, which given that 4 weeks ago they were certain of a majority and clearly hasn't happened, is obviously very shaky. It's probably unlikely they'll increase their number of seats next time as they've been in power a while so the country will likely be feeling the spending cuts even more and be ready for another left wing government. So I'm expecting them to hang on for the full 5 years, unless there are any unforeseen problems during or after brexit. But it's hard to see what could make the Tories give up their power, or what might make the change in tide of public opinion stop once it has started.

Zombie parliament...when absolutely nothing gets done but and when the party in 'power' (eg Tories) hangs on until their electoral position gets better, looks pretty likely. Nothing that has happened in last few years suggests that the Tories anywhere near capable of sorting this out for the good of the country rather than squabbling amongst themselves.

I will not be stepping down. These are rumours. The talks with the DUP are progressing well. We need stability in our country, not uncertainty. I am a strong and stable leader.

Besides, my shoes are better than yours. I order you to stop this dissention at once and start admiring my shoes.

We need the bulk of Brexit negotiations over with and then in a few years an Election largely decided on domestic policy.

I see the Tories as in for the full five year term supported on important tight votes by the DUP. May to stay as leader through the bulk of Brexit negotiations then a leadership change.

There will be by elections though and the Conservatives still have the electoral fraud thing lurking. I don't think they could necessarily hang on even if they want to.

Corbyn is calling for a 2nd election this year, seemingly, from something I read on the Graun app today: he's threatening to torpedo the Queen's Speech, but of course, also will not be able to form a government because of the figures, if nothing else.

Could be November, could be St the end of Brexit - could be whenever. I'm very engaged politically, but also experiencing a bit of voter fatigue: I didn't vote Tory or Labour, but am at the stage now where I'd cheerfully let Corbyn have a go at realising all his promises, just to get it over with Grin

Hopefully not for a while. Not exactly happy with the current set up but just bloody sick of election campaigns now! Think we just need a bit of stability for a while.
