to think you can't smear corbyn for supposed sympathy to the IRA and supposed willingness to do deals with the SNP and THEN do a deal yourself with the DUP?

How the hell do the tories think that they will get away with this?

so they still own the media right ?

and surely aswell there's a metric fuck tonne of hypocrisy in campaigning in the last two election campaigns around the idea of labour propped up by the SNP as being such an awful thing, whereas the conservatives propped up by the DUP is totally fine.

I have a lot of friends who are ex-military and who very loudly voiced their opinion that they would not vote for Labour as he was an IRA sympathiser

One of my facebook friends is ex-military and talked a lot about Corbyn being a terrorist sympathiser - haven't heard a peep out of him today.

I'll admit I'm one of those who didn't know about DUP before this morning (haven't been looking at their wiki page though, have been having a read of various news articles and of course mumsnet) but they do seem to be a really really horrible party.
Just remembered the time we had Paisley Jr. over for lunch when I was young and didn't know about what his dad did except for what my dad told me which was all how wonderful he was shudders

Sunnymorningwithbacon · 09/06/2017 17:26

I am I suppose a unionist. But that does not mean just because I'm nominally a prod that I support the DUP.

I've called out Corbyn for terrorist sympathies and I've done the same to the DUP.

As I've said. Enoch Powell and Jeffrey Donaldson were big muckers back in day.

That's the type of people you have holding the balance of power.

plasticpotato · 09/06/2017 18:25

The DUP share a bed with the UDA.

What about Arlene's u-turn on Dee Stitts job as head of CharterNI? That was November 2016.

The UDA are said to be responsible for shooting a man dead, who was with his young son, outside Sainsburys a few Sundays ago. Arlene met up with Jackie McDonald - head of the UDA, 2 days later.

they are up to their shark eyes in it

What an utter shit-show, cannot believe this is happening

cdtaylornats · 09/06/2017 20:42

If you don't like the idea of the Tories propped up by the DUP then you shouldn't vote labour

GherkinSnatch · 09/06/2017 20:49

If you don't like the idea of the Tories propped up by the DUP then you shouldn't vote labour

Confused
HornyTortoise · 09/06/2017 21:12

Much logic right there Grin

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 09/06/2017 21:13

If you don't like the idea of the Tories propped up by the DUP then you shouldn't vote labour

Surely that should be you SHOULD vote Labour to keep the right wing lot out????

TrollMummy · 09/06/2017 21:26

Welcome to the reality of NI politics.

EpoxyResin · 09/06/2017 21:39

Ha! Surely if you don't like the idea of the Tories propped up by the DUP you shouldn't vote Tory or DUP!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 09/06/2017 21:54

If you don't like the idea of the Tories propped up by the DUP then you shouldn't vote labour

That makes no sense

Although i am on the look out for the most twattish comment of the election. That comment might be in with a chance, only a might though. There seems to be some stiff competition

ExplodedCloud · 09/06/2017 22:14

Some people have been spouting made up nonsense all election.
Practice makes perfect.. .

ForalltheSaints · 09/06/2017 22:18

Doing a deal with the DUP makes it less likely that the Northern Ireland devolved assembly will return. It is a bad move.

blackteasplease · 09/06/2017 22:24

I've been thinking this all day.

Of course the DUP have links to unionist terrorists. Lots of PPs have explained very coherently why this is so, but I also imagine anyone from NI would think it unthinkable to suggest that they didn't/ don't.

But that almost doesn't matter, because they are overtly homophobic, anti women and creationist bible nutters. Covert terrorist links almost pale into insignificance, but for the incredible hypocrisy of it all.

youarenotkiddingme · 09/06/2017 22:25

Absolutely. But it suits the Tories to do this - because they lost the majority they had in their greed and belief they could have a bigger one

scottishdiem · 09/06/2017 22:32

DUP also supported Apartheid South Africa. Pretty sure they are also linked a lot to the Orange Lodge which, in Scotland, has had recent successes in getting elected (as Tories and Labour candidates). Although the one in Stirling got into trouble for abusive tweets.

ShootingStar123 · 09/06/2017 23:00

Jeremy Corvyn supporting Sinn Fein showed he is a terrorist sympathiser and, as much as you may dislike TM, she does not condone terrorism

lakehouse Fri 09-Jun-17 12:51:31

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

Corbyn was ahead of his time in wanted to open up a dialogue to negotiate peace... we got there eventually. It's plainly ridiculous to suggest he condoned terrorism or even supported Sinn Fein.

Even if you don't believe the DUP had links to paramilitary groups, it is hypocritical of May given the criticism she voiced over Labour doing deals with the SNP.

plasticpotato · 09/06/2017 23:04

I'm sort of glad finally people are aware of the total dicks pretending to run Northern Ireland.

In a weird way, I totally support the British voters getting all NIMBY.

Hopefully this new visibility of the corrupt and backward thinking DUP will mark the beginning of their demise. They have got away with so much over the years.

Littlegreyauditor · 09/06/2017 23:07

Hang on, this is interesting: the Tories attempting to power share with the DUP could actually be in contravention of the Good Friday Agreement as the British government must remain impartial with respect to Northern Ireland.
Isn't that interesting?

to think you can't smear corbyn for supposed sympathy to the IRA and supposed willingness to do deals with the SNP and THEN do a deal yourself with the DUP?
plasticpotato · 09/06/2017 23:10

Yes - the DUP didn't want the GFA, so this is all good for them

@ForalltheSaints is right, it will not help the discussions that are starting again on Monday re the devolved government

Littlegreyauditor · 09/06/2017 23:18

Whether the DUP wanted it or not the fact is that it was an international treaty that the UK government signed up to, so it may be relevant in that it could subject to legal challenges.
Certainly other Northern Irish political entities appear to be considering their legal options, if Twitter is to be believed.

plasticpotato · 09/06/2017 23:20

the DUP have always got on like they are above the law. It will be interesting to see how this greater exposure will affect this belief they have.

user1487175389 · 09/06/2017 23:25

Deedee I was thinking the exact same thing.

Sunnymorningwithbacon · 09/06/2017 23:26

All of you who mocked people from here when they posted what it's like to be harangued in the street outside the one abortion clinic or have preachers shouting at you every day as you walk down the Main Street or what the school's were like or how hard it is to stand up for equal rights.

Do you get it yet?
