Urgent technology help needed please!

Hello everyone.

I filmed a video on my phone the other day that's around 11 minutes long.

I'd like to transfer it onto my laptop, but haven't had any luck so far.

For context, the phone is an iPhone 5S, and the laptop is Hewlett Packard. So they're not both Apple products - I'm not sure if that would make it easier?

What I've tried so far:

• I've tried transferring the video from my phone to the laptop by emailing it to myself. However, the video file is too big, as it's 11 minutes along.

• I've also tried to send the video to myself on Dropbox. I downloaded the Dropbox app onto my phone, and the video started downloading from my phone onto the app last night. However, it still hasn't loaded. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong with this.

• Transferring the video from my phone to my computer via One Drive has also been suggested to me as an option. I tried this yesterday, but didn't have any luck.

Any other suggestions please? I'm getting a bit stressed, as if needs to be sorted by tomorrow.

Can't you plug your phone into the laptop and do it that way?

Can you not plug it in via a usb cable (your charging cable should have a usb connection at the opposite end to the one you put in the phone) and transfer that way?

Thanks Imperial - sorry i forgot to mention that! I've tried that several times already, but the laptop isn't recognising or registering my phone!

Can you not plug your iPhone into the laptop with the sync/charger cable? Then just copy it over to the laptop?

Have you tried connecting the phone to your laptop using a USB cable?

I'd connect your phone to your laptop with a USB cable. Then the computer should ask you what you'd like to do. Click on 'explore the files' or similar. Then the videos are usually somewhere in a folder called 'DCIM'.
This is how we used to get photos and videos off my wife's IPhone.

With an android phone I've used a usb cable and transferred files across directly. Can that be done with an iPhone?

Is there anyway of accessing iCloud files from your laptop? If so try going that route.

Umm I'm not great with technology but my first thought was emailing it to yourself, as you say the file is too big does that mean you don't have the space on your laptop for it? Or does it need to be saved to a different format like a jpeg?

The other option I would try would be to plug my phone directly into my laptop using the USB cable to transfer photos and videos... you should just be able to import your video (might have to do everything on your phone which might take a while) but again you might have to configure your laptop to accept apple photos etc. I'm sure in your manual it will explain how to do this?

The only other option I could think of would be to upload it to youtube or something and save it on your laptop maybe?

If you use iCloud, go to iCloud.com on your browser and you will be able to download from there.

When you plug your phone into your laptop, does it not show up as an external drive?

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your laptop as that can sometimes stop them recognising iPhones. I discovered when trying to transfer photos via the USB cable

I use an app called Simple Transfer to get my photos and videos from my phone to my pc - the free version will allow you to transfer the first 50 items from each album (but it's easy to put them in a new album if you have more). The £2.99 version doesn't have that limit.

I'm not sure if there's a size limit for videos, I've never tried a really big one. Your phone needs iOS 8.1 or later.

It's really easy to use, we use it at school to get photos from our iPads and even the teachers children can use it.

Save it to your iCloud account, then go to www.icloud.com on your laptop, log in and download it from there.
