Hello everyone.

I filmed a video on my phone the other day that's around 11 minutes long.

I'd like to transfer it onto my laptop, but haven't had any luck so far.

For context, the phone is an iPhone 5S, and the laptop is Hewlett Packard. So they're not both Apple products - I'm not sure if that would make it easier?

What I've tried so far:

  • I've tried transferring the video from my phone to the laptop by emailing it to myself. However, the video file is too big, as it's 11 minutes along.
  • I've also tried to send the video to myself on Dropbox. I downloaded the Dropbox app onto my phone, and the video started downloading from my phone onto the app last night. However, it still hasn't loaded. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong with this.
  • Transferring the video from my phone to my computer via One Drive has also been suggested to me as an option. I tried this yesterday, but didn't have any luck.

Any other suggestions please? I'm getting a bit stressed, as if needs to be sorted by tomorrow.

If you could also please pass this request onto your friends and family who are interested in technology, that would be amazing!!

Thank you so so much everyone!!

Can you upload to fb from your phone and then download it from fb on your laptop. If you don't want others to see it just set the settings to only you.

Sounds like the computer isn't registering your iPhone to load it up. I had this and is a pain in the arse.
What version of windows do you have and is iTunes up to date?

UpLighter · 08/06/2017 11:26

First steps to make sure you have tried support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204095

If iTunes isnt seeing the phone thats an issue.

Dropbox should have worked but needs to be on wifi, not 4G. and the file needs to be in the drop box folder.

If you have a gmail account you can try Google Drive which is free. Again, needs to be an upload so will need to be on wifi.

Some USB cables are just for charging, some will also do file transfer so try a few different cables.
On my phone (android) once it is plugged into the laptop I then have to select on the phone 'USB for file transfer.'

Google drive?

LadyLoveYourWhat · 08/06/2017 12:05

Can you upload it to YouTube? You can have private videos, or only let people with the url see them, or embed in a presentation?

OnionKnight · 08/06/2017 12:08

Dropbox is your best bet but depending on your internet speed it might take a while, keep your phone unlocked and the Dropbox app open, make sure you have enabled it to upload videos over wifi.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 08/06/2017 12:09

Try Dropbox again. With Dropbox you need to give it time to sync properly or it won't upload properly. It might be that it didn't upload in full, I'd give it another go, add to dropbox and wait a while before you try and download it onto your laptop

Spam88 · 08/06/2017 12:15

You should be able to do it via cable as long as you're using a data cable (the one that came with the phone will definitely be one). Once you've plugged it in you need to unlock your phone and it'll ask if you want to allow your laptop to access your phone, to which you need to say yes.

HeadDreamer · 08/06/2017 12:20

You should be able to do it via dropbox or icloud. Install icloud on your pc, wait, and the video should be there on your PC.

If that doesn't work, try download dropbox on both your pc and your phone. Save the video on to dropbox, and then access it in the icloud folder on the PC.

If file is under 2gb you could email it to yourself by using mailbigfile.com.
