AIBU that this is hysteria and scaremongering? It's made me fuming to see this all over fb this morning. I know, I know; time to come off fb. Is anyone else seeing this today?

I think some people just CBA with school and like a PJ day a little too much tbh. Have some.people on my feed who have one for the slightest reason.

AuntieStella · 08/06/2017 07:16

Most schools that are polling stations close on the day of the vote.

Those that don't can only continue to be open if there is totally separation of voters from the rest of the school.

Those who are jpkeeping them off clearly don't have any faith in their schools ability to have that sort of separation, and demonstrating that lack of trust does show their unhappiness with their schools. And that's a pity.

(PS: your post was the first I'd heard of this)

dementedpixie · 08/06/2017 07:17

Our primary is off as it's a polling station. Our secondary school is open as it's not being used. Dd is gutted while ds is happy!

SorrelSoup · 08/06/2017 07:18

AuntieStella our school can now open on polling days as it's sorted its security out. Im glad its the first you've heard of it! I think im living in a parallel universe some times.

Our school is a polling station and is open, as it always is. We are also having Sports Day on site - all day. Nonsense keeping dc off school.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 08/06/2017 07:20

Our school has a polling station and our DC are at school, some parents are not allowing there children to attend.

I dont blame them tbh,

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 08/06/2017 07:21

Maybe just leave people be? If it makes them feel better to have their kids with them that one day then what's the harm? One day off school won't hurt anything.

Neutrogena · 08/06/2017 07:29

These 'snowflakes' are letting the terrorists win.
They are saying to the victims of Manchester and London "Screw you. We will be cowed and have our way of life disrupted.!
What a way to treat the dead.

eelbecomingforyou · 08/06/2017 07:30

One room in our school is used a s a polling station. The school remains open. I hadn't even thought of any negative possibilities. And it's not on my FB at all... where do you live??

highinthesky · 08/06/2017 07:31

YANBU, but fuming over other people's FB messages about it? Wt-actual-f?

There's plenty else in life to get bugged about.

MacarenaFerreiro · 08/06/2017 07:39

We're off today as our school is used as a polling place - the teachers and support staff wtill have to go in though. Keeping kids off is ridiculous.

JustWingingItAgain · 08/06/2017 07:50

Where I normally teach on Thursday is off as a Polling Station, so I am going to work elsewhere.

Neither of my children are off today either.

(I did laugh when one of my students text me to tell me that she couldn't come to class today bc her children were off for the voting day!)

NicolasFlamel · 08/06/2017 07:54

Fuming? Grin just go about your day. It's their business really.

SorrelSoup · 08/06/2017 07:57

I'm fuming as I know the dickheads involved so it's only adding to my already low tolerance of them! Smile. It's their business, Yes, but don't post in school groups scaremongering and whipping up hysteria. That's what's pissed me off! Lots of people jumping on the bandwagon now who would probably never have thought about it.

Dandandandandandandan · 08/06/2017 07:59

Nobody is going to bomb a polling station. First, it never happens when you think. They aren't that well organised. Secondly they aren't interested in people who are already voting. And it would be too easy to spot someone because they're not that busy.

Places that make me nervous are crowded and open eg: train stations with big concourses (like Euston), public spaces like Trafalgar Square or Hyde park, sporting venues like old Trafford, busy shopping centres like the Trafford centre and Westfield.

But I still go. Fuck them if they're stopping me from doing a damn thing.

Marmalady75 · 08/06/2017 08:01

It takes one bigmouth and some sheep to start this kind of nonsense!

originalbiglymavis · 08/06/2017 08:02

Stuff that, my kid has exams and I've to to go to work.

Keep buggering on, as they say...

MrsOverTheRoad · 08/06/2017 08:07

I think Leader has it in one.

Some people lead quite boring lives and any chance of a bit of drama is something they grab on to.

DancingLedge · 08/06/2017 08:19

Please ignore this stupid rumour.

There are 50,000 polling stations in this country. Most Tescos are way more crowded places.

theothersideoftheworld · 08/06/2017 08:22

Our school is a polling station and is open. My Dc is going in. It never even crossed my mind to keep him off.

Rhodiolia · 08/06/2017 08:37

Yep, I've seen a few on mine saying this. I don't agree with it, but they are posting publicly declaring it "too dangerous" for their kids, and then more pile in saying that they are also keeping there's off too now!

Coddiwomple · 08/06/2017 08:41

Neutrogena What a stupid and offensive post, well done you.

OP, YABU
That has nothing to do with you. Our local schools are closed today, so non-issue here, but people do what make them feel better.
Some will cancel their flights after a plane crash, forbid their kids to go to a them park, or avoid a motorway days after a specially horrific accident. Not everybody is rational, so what. With all the stories of kids being neglected or abused, parents reacting to terrorism a different way than I do are the last on my list!

TestTubeTeen · 08/06/2017 08:42

I'd be interested to know:
How many of these parents use the day off to take their kids to an attraction or other busy place, for a day out
And
How many of these parents have jobs and have had to find emergency childcare or lose a day's pay.

Wink
MissEliza · 08/06/2017 09:53

Some people just CBA with school. Yes I find that as well. Dh for some reason wants to keep the dcs off for any little reason. Good job I'm in charge!

SorrelSoup · 08/06/2017 16:28

Lots of half empty classes.
