How many threads have you hidden?

I've spent the day clicking on active topics, scrolling and hiding at least 3 election/political posts each time. I think I must have done so about 20/30 times today, and it's only going to scale up from tomorrow on isn't it?

I'm bored by the handwringing of it all, vote or don't vote for whoever you choose, I just come here for parking threads, embarrassing anecdotes and light relief!

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 09/06/2017 13:30

Lost count here too. AIBU is ridiculous.

SoupDragon · 09/06/2017 13:30

Just to clarify, that is 32 this morning.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 13:39

You'd think it was a momentous occasion or something

SoupDragon · 09/06/2017 13:40

It doesn't require over 30 threads all saying pretty much the same things.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 13:43

They are all very samey. I don't know why there has to be a new thread for every single thought. Hmm

Code42 · 09/06/2017 13:44

Been hiding loads since the election was called - I'm politically active, I vote, I'm engaged: but I haven't the energy for the downright twattery that goes on here sometimes. I'd be fine with them all being on the politics board, tbh.

On the plus side, makes a change from hiding the trans bunfights in AIBU Grin

ArgyMargy · 09/06/2017 13:49

I've never hidden a thread. But I could swear I put a watch on a thread last night which has disappeared this morning. Rather dramatic one involving incest and 999 calls, I presume it was deleted but would have liked to read the deletion message - that's always fun.

justkeepswimmingg · 09/06/2017 14:06

Yes ArgyMargy, it was deleted. Detection message wasn't anything interesting, just said it wasn't resolving the situation by keeping the thread up any longer. I hate not knowing the ending to a thread!

29Palms · 09/06/2017 15:39

There is a section for Politics.
Why can't these people put their political threads in there?
Or why isn't a Mumsnet admin moving them there?
It's really getting on my tits. Sort it out, please.

And I wish it was possible to Hide a thread without opening it. Just tick a box and click "hide all ticked threads".

ArgyMargy · 09/06/2017 15:49

Thanks justkeepswimming! I did wonder whether I'd somehow dreamt it!

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 09/06/2017 15:54

None, I just don't open ones I don't want to read.
Be good if people could auto-hide threads on a particular topic e.g. Hide all threads with topic "election" etc.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 16:51

I hide them without opening them from the Active page. Frees up the Active list for other things.

quencher · 09/06/2017 17:14

I am amazed people don't hide threads. I only ever keep those am interested in. I probably delete more than I read, and only stick with a few threads at a time. I can't stand clogged up timeline as it can be very irritating.

29Palms · 09/06/2017 17:44

Thanks for the Active threads tip, Sparkling. I never normally use that, so handy to know.

Just wish MN would assign a moderator to move threads from inappropriate sections, it's getting out of control now. I can understand why people put certain topics in Chat so they will get deleted in due course, but there is no excuse for putting all and sundry into AIBU.

BackforGood · 09/06/2017 17:53

You hide them without opening them from Active

How do you do that, please ?

29Palms · 09/06/2017 18:09

Yes, having looked, I can't see a way to do it.

It takes three clicks to hide a thread - open thread, click hide, then click to get back to the topic list.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 18:09

On my phone next to each thread in Active there are 3 dots. Click on them and Hide comes up as an option.

On laptop it's a little minus sign in a square.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 18:11

It's been ages since I did it. I am now wondering if I had to 'enable' something in my settings first.

BackforGood · 09/06/2017 18:13

hmmm. I'm on the PC. There's nothing like that I can see.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 09/06/2017 18:14

Just the one, but it's nothing to do with politics. I don't mind those threads.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 18:21

Ah right. You have to go to 'Customise' and change the box that says 'Put "hide" link on Active Conversations? (hide selected threads from Talk), show thread options on mobile: from No to Yes.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 18:23

Couldn't find Customise anywhere but there's a link on here

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 09/06/2017 18:37

Thanks for the advice. Have just hidden 327 topics lol

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 18:38

I have 10 Topics not hidden Grin

quencher · 09/06/2017 18:39

You hide them without opening them from Active*

How do you do that, please ?*

You slide the thread from right to left. Press hide. Done and move on. Simple Wink
