How many threads have you hidden?

I've spent the day clicking on active topics, scrolling and hiding at least 3 election/political posts each time. I think I must have done so about 20/30 times today, and it's only going to scale up from tomorrow on isn't it?

I'm bored by the handwringing of it all, vote or don't vote for whoever you choose, I just come here for parking threads, embarrassing anecdotes and light relief!

Many. Not just today. Every day - but more today than usual.

KungFuEric · 07/06/2017 23:02

God i'd so love if mumsnet would sweep it all into politics to allow me to just hide the whole topic in one fell swoop.

What a satisfying thought, rather than playing whack-a-mole all weekend.

I had a discussion with Livia on one the other day. It was quite cordial.
Obviously you don't need to engage if you don't want to, but it matters a lot to a lot of people, and personally i'm glad that a) people care and b) they are happy to make their views public. I'd be worried if people didn't.

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2017 23:03

We could really do with a temporary 'AIBU re Voting/Politics' Topic. Then I could hide that.

BackforGood · 07/06/2017 23:06

I'm confused.... why do you go to the trouble of hiding them all, rather than just not opening any that you don't want to read ?

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2017 23:08

You hide them without opening them from Active, then it frees up your Active list for stuff that might interest you. Otherwise it's just awash with election stuff and nothing else.

quencher · 08/06/2017 00:18

For every scream I refresh I probably read two. All the others are hidden.

HereBeFuckery · 08/06/2017 08:22

Wait till the results are in. It'll get worse.

Jellybean85 · 08/06/2017 08:29

Hahaah @PenguinOfDoom you could have put trigger warning before mentioning bread with holes.
I'm hyperventilating over here remembering that time I tried to spread lurpak from the fridge on white bread Grin

But yes most people actually do care and are passionate. But would like to see threads on other topics too rather than 1000 'AIBU to nag and bully you about your vote '

Fruitcocktail6 · 08/06/2017 08:32

I didn't even know you could hide threads, I'm about to go on a hiding spree.

picklemepopcorn · 08/06/2017 08:35

Is there a limit to how many you can hide? I've only ever hidden ones I find distressing/need to disengage from. Can I hide the boring ones too, to make room for interesting ones? Ooh...

x2boys · 08/06/2017 08:37

In spite of all the increasingly hysterical aibu to ask you to vote blah, blah if anyone seriously basis their vote on some random on the internet ranting I would question whether they should be allowed to vote in the first place.

ElspethFlashman · 08/06/2017 08:43

I've just gone on a hiding spree too. Great idea OP, now Active looks more like a normal day. I don't live in the UK so don't have a horse in this race at all.

KungFuEric · 08/06/2017 08:44

pickleme I should hope there isn't a limit, another five have just bitten the dust this morning.

OP posts:
weaselwords · 08/06/2017 08:53

I have a medical need for a batty neighbour thread. All this politics is getting in my way of fulfilment.

picklemepopcorn · 08/06/2017 08:54

Thing is, I've now hidden loads, but no one seems to be posting about anything else... What a boring day. Someone must be parking badly somewhere, surely?

MagentaRocks · 08/06/2017 08:55

I hide all the political threads. They clog up active so every other thread is bashing one of the parties or who votes for them. I wish people would post in the politics section as I have that hidden.

picklemepopcorn · 08/06/2017 14:55

How do you hide a topic? I can see how to 'favourite' them- at least, I assume that is what the star is?

glitterglitters · 08/06/2017 14:57

Haha I thought I was the only one doing this Grin

glitterglitters · 08/06/2017 14:59

@KungFuEric have you ever played Wikipedia 6 Steps to Jesus?

You go to the main Wikipedia page and press "random article" and you have to get to the page about Jesus in exactly 6 internal links on the pages.

Sounds easy but you actually end up doing it in less.

Rainydayzandmondays13 · 08/06/2017 15:00

Have hidden all the politics ones. Must have been 6 today so far. The clogging up off Aibu with them is beyond ridiculous. Surely there's a politics section on MN?

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 12:25

I have lost count today. Grin

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 09/06/2017 13:26

I've hidden about 25 in the past couple of days as I'm so sick of the political threads in Chat and AIBU. Why doesn't MNHQ move them to politics?!

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2017 13:28

They should just have one thread at least. So many AIBUs. Most are too.

SoupDragon · 09/06/2017 13:29

I've just counted mine.
