To think there is no such thing as a leakproof water bottle?!

Have lost count of the amount of water bottles we have amassed - majority of which are total crap. Need to get a decent one for DS (12); one that doesn't perma-leak over all his school books Angry

Any recommendations or are they all shit?

We use sistema bottles and have never had a leak.

NannyR · 07/06/2017 20:24

I have an Aladdin screw top bottle that gets chucked in my back pack everyday for the last two years and has never leaked. I bought it from tk maxx, but I've seen them on sale in lots of other places.

Offherhead · 07/06/2017 20:25

Just endure they are stood upright and not being banged into. A decent bag with a pocket on the outside/ a bottle that hangs by a carabiner should do it.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 07/06/2017 20:25

We got Avex ones from Costco. I think they were about 20 quid for 3.
They take quite a battering and last well.

SquidgeyMidgey · 07/06/2017 20:26

We have Aladdin ones and they don't leak. Not cheap but all 3 yrs old and going strong.

GloriaGilbert · 07/06/2017 20:27

You need one with a rubber membrane around the seal. That's all.

alabasterangel · 07/06/2017 20:28

Sistema also. Kids have got the 460ml ones (they are laid sideways in lunch boxes and never ever leak) and they do a bigger 700ml(ish) one which is also good.

I have a sistema one too - with both a narrow and a chunky part to the kid which I screws, so you can put ice cubes or fruit in. That's also never leaked (been used a year, every day). Plus all the sistema ones are dishwasher safe and don't have the stupid straws in.

alabasterangel · 07/06/2017 20:32

Awful typos. Fidgety child, sorry!

thenightsky · 07/06/2017 20:37

The only ones I've used that don't leak are used small coke/lucozade/water bottles. Gave up buying special ones years ago.

packofshunts · 07/06/2017 20:39

Thanks All. Are you able to hang the Systema bottles by a hook?

I use this and it's great. I found sistema ones to be rubbish!

twocockers · 07/06/2017 20:41

I'm with @thenightsky gave up on special bottles and reuse normal shop brought drink bottles. Pepsi ones are thick!!

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 07/06/2017 20:41

We use Avex ones. DPs one has a fault but mine is perfect (as is other I know who use them)
You can get them from Amazon

The only way to break one of these is to fill it and freeze it. I know lots of people that have had the same one for 20 years. They don't leak.

AFingerofFudge · 07/06/2017 20:43

I hate that fecking Smiggle shop and all its gaudy nonsense but we have 3 of their water bottles and none of them leak!

BikeRunSki · 07/06/2017 20:43

Camelbak Eddy and Podium bottles are excellent, pricey, but I have one that is still going strong after more than 9 years.

thelonelyhamster · 07/06/2017 20:43

Nalgene bottles don't leak. They're also pretty indestructible, and the wide mouth versions are super easy to clean also!

KikisDeliveryService · 07/06/2017 20:49

Sistema Square with the big caps are brilliant. Easy to undo/do up and hold loads of water. All our aluminium hiking style water bottles end up leaking, as does anything with a spout or twisty up lid.

Reused shop water bottles are usually pretty good! Mine always end up getting recycled by DH though.

SuperBeagle · 07/06/2017 20:50

My kids have always had Sistema ones with no problem.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 07/06/2017 21:03

Either the Aladdin ones (lots of different sizes available) or Thermos ones. Can't believe the price on that link! They're £20 in Sainsbury's!

meala · 07/06/2017 22:08

Lock and lock bottles are great. No leaks at all and not expensive either. { www.amazon.co.uk/d/Sports-Outdoors/Lock-Colour-Handy-Sports-Bottle/B01L1Z8EYG?tag=mumsnetforum-21 }

ineedamoreadultieradult · 07/06/2017 22:12

Sistema are excellent they do start to wear out and become a bit leaky eventually but we get probably a year of near everyday use out of them before that happens including being used as footballs and for bottle flipping.

princessbananahammock252 · 07/06/2017 22:14

Try Camelback or Nalgene

woodlands01 · 07/06/2017 22:17

Camelbak - fantastic, not ever leaked inside rucksack. Can buy replacement tops if any problem or get a bit scummy. Expensive but worth it.
