If you wake up and are still under conservative rule?

Not goady, just genuinely interested in how you intend to make life better for yourself and those around you

OP posts:
ShoesHaveSouls · 07/06/2017 11:17

Pretty much resigned to it now. I'll keep calm and carry on - as our human and civil rights are eroded by TM. Sigh.

But you are being a bit goady, aren't you. Enjoy it - until the cuts affect you. "But I never thought Leopards were going to eat my face says woman who voted for the face-eating Leopard Party"

Abetes · 07/06/2017 11:18

Think that more people wanted a different government and that I have to accept that. I won't slag people off and call them selfish because essentially everyone has made a decision based on either what they think is best for the country or themselves. That is what voting is all about.

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 11:19

The answer is:

Working hard to straighten out the terrible mess the Tories left us with.

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/06/2017 11:22

I have no plans to be out protesting and I haven't heard of any protests being planned. It's vitally important to democracy that protests are not stifled, however, and that we don't allow the threat of terrorism to prevent us enacting our democratic rights. It's a slippery slope. I'd like to think that whoever is elected funds the police adequately so that they can do their job rather than chipping away at our rights and our democracy in the name of protecting us - that really would be handing victory to those who wish to destroy our way of life.

cdtaylornats · 07/06/2017 11:22

As someone on the Tory side in Corbyn wins I will think about how to ride out the storm for the 2 or 3 years before he is dumped.

I fear my charitable donations may suffer.

I will look forward to Labours civil war as Corbyn's plans cost London dear and Khan goes on the attack.

EveningShadows · 07/06/2017 11:23

Well steppemum, that's democracy for you.

The Tories may or may not get the economy sorted but of course they won't spend it on what Labour want FFS. They have totally different priorities! They have shown time and time again over the past 7 years that they don't give a shiny shit about the vulnerable in our society.

So I stand by what I said. I'm really fucking angry right now and I know who to blame.

Maudlinmaud · 07/06/2017 11:24

It's sad that labour voters have already predicted this result, it's depressing actually. Where I am I feel my vote is a waste of time and energy and tbh northern Ireland will be the place where change will be catastrophic. Obviously I will still go out and vote but it feels pointless.

sobeyondthehills · 07/06/2017 11:27

Forgot to add. After I have stopped feeling sorry for myself I will look at the turnout and decide whether I need to rant about people not voting, because that annoys me so much more than people voting for a different party, at least they got out and did something.

deugain · 07/06/2017 11:27

From what I've seen they don't want the NHS to fail.

Tory voting relatives I have seem to think the cuts shouldn't or won't affect them but everyone else.

Ironically given our ages and their they are much more likely to need NHS and supporting services in next ten - 20 years than us.

ShoesHaveSouls · 07/06/2017 11:28

Our right to peaceful protest have already been curtailed by Tony Blair's anti-terror laws after 7/7. Brian Haw fought it for years, until his death, in fact.

We should not let them be chipped away any more. That would damage our freedoms and democracy.

Cocklodger · 07/06/2017 11:28

I'll phone my mum and commiserate. Another 5 of hell. I already pay some of her bills so she can survive while paying double bedroom tax on a home she can't move from (adapted for her SN) but has been rejected for any help finding a new home that has the same adaptations which she needs to live safely.
I'm already paying her rent and buying her food as well as paying some utilities. I'm a hair away from dragging her to live with me overseas.
The conservative government is fucking evil and I make no apologies for saying so. When they actively fuck over the vulnerable I cant sit there and go "ah well difference of opinion". My heart will break if they win

BayLeaves · 07/06/2017 11:29

interested in how you intend to make life better for yourself and those around you

I find this a bit of an odd question. Are you implying that the Tories will not make life better, and therefore that a Tory victory will
mean we all have to think of ways to improve our own lives despite the cuts to public services? Or are you implying that Labour voters expect politicians to make their lives easier and that we might not currently be working hard enough to improve our own lives? Or are you just suggesting that in the wake of a disappointing election result, voters from any side of the political spectrum will be wanting to think of ways to cheer themselves up and improve society?

I just don't quite understand what motivates that question as it's a bit of an odd one!

The trouble is, the kind of cuts to public services affect people in ways that they can't compensate for, if it were that easy, people wouldn't be so angry. The NHS is the only health service we have access to; if you can't afford private healthcare despite having worked hard to get a good education and a respectable career, the NHS is all you've got.

The same could be said for policing, education, and so on.

RebelandaStunner · 07/06/2017 11:31

Pretty sure Tories will win. Whoever wins we will:
Prepare for DH to be made redundant in 3 years by overpaying mortgage and hopefully his payout is as big as we thought.

MotherOfBleach · 07/06/2017 11:33

I will question the intelligence of the general public. I honestly cannot even begin to understand why the average person would vote Tory. The top 5%, I understand why they do, I think they're selfish for doing so, but I understand it.

We've already cut back on everything we can cut back on. We are one step away from regular food bank use and that's only because my family feed us three times a week, so I'll prepare as best I can for our lives to continue to slowly degrade.

And then I'll get up on Saturday, job hunt, work towards my business, teach my children about politics and economics and media bias and pray they and their peers grew up with enough intelligence and social responsibility to start putting the country we ruined for them back together.

So, pretty much what I've done for the last seven years.

I expect after Brexit when Nissan fucks off, job hunting will be harder but other than that not much will change.

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 07/06/2017 11:35

I would like to thank the OP because she's just prompted me to sign up for a monthly donation to the Trussell Trust. God knows, foodbanks are going to need all the money they can get over the next few years.

On Friday I will probably obsessively read news websites, drink heavily and swear a lot.

hottotrotsky · 07/06/2017 11:36

Bizarre and depressing thread with everyone presuming Labour will lose. I live abroad but why such a foregone conclusion? Or is this more astroturfing creating false narrative of resignation?

PinkPeppers · 07/06/2017 11:37

Probably be a number of protests on Saturday because people can't understand how a democracy works
If you think that people who voted against the tories should just shut up and never voice their disagreement, then its you that has no idea on how democracy work.
Sorry.
But democracy allows the freedom to express your opinions and that includes having a protest against a certain type of government. Even if that government has just beeing elected.

dangermouseisace · 07/06/2017 11:37
Hmm

If Labour lose I plan to join the Labour party and help make sure they don't lose next time. That said, I'm probably going to join anyway…

PinkPeppers · 07/06/2017 11:40

Hot Because until the last week or so the Tories were given a win with a such a huge margin, people never thought anyone had any chance to win.
As you said though, same polls have actually being swinging quote a bit in the last week

I agree that the OP might be a bit too optimistic and might well be very disappointed by the results.
Just see the vote for Brexit....

hottotrotsky

The question is if we wake up still under Tory rule, if someone asked what will be do if we wake up up Labour rule, I would answer that as well. Nothing is a foregone conclusion unless people don't get out and vote.

ssd · 07/06/2017 11:42

..wonder how the hell I'll be able to afford private healthcare for my family

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 11:42

We are going to have a lot of work to do.

But I know we can make Britain a better place.

Let's do something positive. Enough of this terrible news all the time.

GretchenFranklin · 07/06/2017 11:42

hottotrotsky Labour are very much the underdogs going into this election campaign, most of the country are right wing let's face it. Doesn't seem to matter what an utter shambles the Tories are the sheeple continue to vote for them

I really hope Labour win.

RhodaBorrocks · 07/06/2017 11:42

Probably cry a bit. Commiserate with my colleagues (NHS) and then start looking for jobs in the private sector which I will get paid on average £10k a year more for.

Call my parents and moan to try and hasten their house sale so that they will give me the promised lump sum to buy my own property. Really just to be petty because they are mortgage free and DSis lives with them rent free at 30 and I'm told there's no room for me and to get a council house until they can buy me somewhere because for some reason they don't believe that the Tories sold off all the council houses in our area.
