WH can't have it both ways, describe @POTUS conversations then claim they're privileged. There's no privilege to mislead then hide the truth

My head is awhirl with information overload. Enough to impeach/not enough to impeach. It's really hard to separate the wheat from the chaff when you want to believe one thing so badly.

I agree that what's 'out there' now would have been enough for the Senate to proceed with an obstruction of justice impeachment 45 years ago. Unfortunately, the standards of honour in Congress have been lowered and what was once enough evidence of wrongdoing just doesn't seem to be enough any more. 45 years ago even the GOP wanted to at least be seen to behave in what they thought was the best interest of the country. Today, the GOP just wants to stay in power.

I hopped on to get updates on Comey.....!

Slimthistime · 08/06/2017 23:55

X post 55 thanks
I am wondering if hope skewed my view of the Comey business.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/06/2017 00:21

Keeping an eye on the UK election results.

So if I'm seeing this correctly, as of right now Labour has won/kept more seats, but not many results are in. However, exit polls show that Conservative will end up with more seats when all results are in. BUT, some reports are that May will lose her majority even though she's Conservative.

Is this because they think she won't get the number of seats needed for a clear majority? Is this what they mean by a possible coalition government?

cozietoesie · 09/06/2017 00:21

I think it's fairly straightforward, Across - and much in line with what you've said for a long time. There's enough to impeach - if there was an appetite to. But there isn't. The GOP face a long time in the desert after this administration so they're busting a gut to achieve as much of their 'bucket list' as they can. They won't try for impeachment in my view. Or not while there's still any hope of achieving some of their items first,

PerkingFaintly · 09/06/2017 00:23

The Independent is sounding a caution that postal votes weren't represented in the exit polls, and more are likely to be Tory.

FantasticButtocks · 09/06/2017 00:24

I really fell for James Comey this afternoon; and I've realised why. I have a narcissistic, mysogenistic, deluded, overblown egomaniac of an unstoppable mother who gets away with everything and with whom it is impossible to communicate in any kind of a reasonable way, in short impossible. I don't have a relationship with her. She is just like Trump, ShockAnd as I'll never see her get her comeuppance, I have badly wanted to see Trump brought down! To see him exposed, disgraced, brought to justice. Today, Comey became my hero. He was the epitome of honesty, integrity, intelligence. He gives me hope that Trump isn't going to get away with it forever.

cozietoesie · 09/06/2017 00:26

Maybe pin some of that hope on Mueller? (Comey reckons Mueller if I recall.) Smile

lionheart · 09/06/2017 00:28

I have a similar thing going Fantastic and I want justice. Exactly as you say.

lionheart · 09/06/2017 00:28

Let's hope.

GingerIvy · 09/06/2017 01:00

Across Tories are predicted to get 314, I believe. They need 326? The only thing that would put them over to clear majority would be coalition. LD have already said no way. I can't see them joining with SNP.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/06/2017 01:36

Got it Ginger. Two parties can combine to get the needed 326. They then control policy making.

We are in agreement cozie. As long as there's a GOP majority in the Senate, there will be no impeachment unless there is something found that is so egregious, with proof so irrefutable, it can't be ignored or interpreted in more than one way. In essence, they'll have to catch Scrotus on tape or in writing doing or saying something absolutely illegal before the GOP will agree to impeach.

As you often say.....2018. It's our only hope and God knows what will be forced through before the newly elected Congressmen are sworn in in 2019.

For everyone enjoying this election's unpredictability: good news! There will probably have to be another one soon.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/06/2017 06:52

Hung parliament.

I was reading something about the Tories forming a coalition with the DUP. Had to look that party up. It appears they are socially conservative. A bit like our Tea Party (without the 2nd amendment crap).

Does this mean a more 'Trumpian' Govt for the UK? Leaning more toward isolationism and a lowering of the 'safety net' for the less fortunate?

BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 06:53

Morning all. I have had very little sleep and am full of the wonder of the great mysteries of life. It certainly isn't boring is it Grin

BiglyBadgers · 09/06/2017 06:57

The thing is that even with the DUP and taking into account that Sinn Fein don't take their seats the Tory/DUP majority is very small. The Tory party has moderates as well as more hard right MPs, so either side will be able to hold the party hostage meaning they may not just swing to the right.

To be honest nobody really knows what is going to happen now!
