To think this is not working class at all?

Hugest of apologies to the poster I've stolen this statement from taken inspiration from over this thread but I'm sure everyone will agree it's an important matter that needs to be openly discussed and settled.

There are a couple of working/middle class threads flying around AIBU today and I don't want to add fuel to the fire by starting another.

But. I was astonished to hear a poster asserting that the Octonauts on CBeebies were working class.

AIBU to say they are definitely middle class?

Come to think of it, Professor Inkling may even be further up the social class scale than that.

How is Mr Ben working class? I know he likes to dress up, but in ordinary life he wears a suit and a bowler hat.

MrsOverTheRoad · 07/06/2017 10:26

Mr Ben is so middle class it's ridiculous!

He's a city gent ffs!

SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 11:13

Mr Benn is a chameleon but he always reverts to the pinstripes and bowler hat.

Does anyone remember Clive Dunn as Grandad?

If you are being strictly Marxist anyone who has to work to live i.e. for wages, to then pay for housing, food etc is the proletariat i.e. working class. I'd also query whether the Octonaughts own their 'means of production' i.e. the Octopod and their vehicles. It's not clear.

If the Octonaughts did not have to work- e.g. they lived off income from property/ other people's work then they would be the bourgeoisie- so not working class.

I think we need full financial disclosure from the Octonaughts before we can decide. It could be that Professor Inkling owns it all and is the oppressor...

Janice has nailed it.

Character clothing is ok for maybe one piece (or PJs) as long as it's high brow.

Anything "totoro" wins.

Honestly though my DC have never had character clothes. Not for any snobbish reasons, I just don't like them and they always look like they are wearing PJs outside. My DMs favourite saying was "it takes just as much time to buy nice clothes as it does to buy ugly ones" HmmWink

You are straying into my favourite subject: the administration, governance and oversight of the Octonauts.

Any volunteers to contact Prof. Inkling for a full financial disclosure?
