To think this is not working class at all?

Hugest of apologies to the poster I've stolen this statement from taken inspiration from over this thread but I'm sure everyone will agree it's an important matter that needs to be openly discussed and settled.

There are a couple of working/middle class threads flying around AIBU today and I don't want to add fuel to the fire by starting another.

But. I was astonished to hear a poster asserting that the Octonauts on CBeebies were working class.

AIBU to say they are definitely middle class?

Come to think of it, Professor Inkling may even be further up the social class scale than that.

wimbledon

They were definitely mc characters as the concept came from graduates of oxbridge, who initially came up with the idea as a piss take, not meaning to be taken seriously. Grin
Completely went over the heads of the Beeb, back then.
or so the story goes, saw it on a documentary once, but happy to be proven wrong if it's a myth.

edmontonkitty · 06/06/2017 15:06

Wimbledonmum: Those weren't real Pugwash characters anyway - just an urban myth.

RedStripeIassie · 06/06/2017 15:12

I fancy Quazi. Not really sure what it means to fancy a fictional pirate cat.....

Dd still doesn't really care what she wears so I can get away with the cute stuff as well as a few peppa things I bought her because I liked them.

I heard from a middle class source that character clothing is ok on pjs Confused Grin.

RtHonMistress · 06/06/2017 15:16

Quazi's a bit rough and ready for my liking. I prefer a little posh boy myself Grin

Speaking of fancying fictional characters and posh boys, I have a horrific Captain Barnacles-related confession which I'm not even sure I could mention without NCing first Blush

I don't particularly like covering my child in branded things but have discovered that once they become a little shite strong willed and independent toddler, you'll do anything to try and get them to actually wear some bloody clothes in the morning!

Also branded plasters have come into their own recently 😎

RedStripeIassie · 06/06/2017 15:21

I want to here your captain Barnicles confession. Can you name change on your own thread and pretend it's not you? Grin we'll be none the wiser!

JaniceBattersby · 06/06/2017 15:23

Lots of toffs round here (I am not one of them).

This seems to be the order of 'character clothing' on a scale of on the dole to aristo.

Disney (the stuff in Asda)
Stuff based on computer games (Mario)
Anything off Nick Jr (Paw Patrol, Peppa etc)
CBeebies (Mike the knight etc)
Minecraft
Star Wars
Julia Donaldson
Harry Potter (authentic merch only)
Dr Seuss
Roald Dahl
No characters whatsoever, no exceptions.

Someone round here once asked me, straight faced, why was my son wearing a Paw Patrol t-shirt. I was like Hmm

Justdontgetitatall · 06/06/2017 15:26

Flown What on earth makes you class yourself as 'middle class?!?!'

iblamegin · 06/06/2017 15:32

I once had an erotic dream about Barnacles. One of the best I've had Blush

RedStripeIassie · 06/06/2017 15:33

Filth
waits for Quazi to visit my dreams

RtHonMistress · 06/06/2017 15:40

We once had a very odd staffroom conversation at work about imagined sexual tension within the Octonauts squad. I think I need to step away Grin

What version of Captain Pugwash did you watch WimbledonMum1? Those characters didn't exist in the real Captain Pugwash.

BeepBeepMOVE · 06/06/2017 16:30

It only ever seems to be the working class or deprecate social climber who talk about class. It's not something much discussed in my social group at all.

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 16:40

Take my arm Beep, I'm sure we can find a more appropriate thread to repatriate you to sharpish.

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 16:43

Is it okay to bring some proper food onto this thread? That other one made me hungry.

glitterglitters · 06/06/2017 16:44

@BeepBeepMOVE there's a guy I know who is obsessed with being middle class and based it on how many varieties of tea he owned.

I didn't have the heart to tell him I had about 10+ additional blends and tins of loose leaf compared his measly collection of teabags. Grin

RtHonMistress · 06/06/2017 16:47

By all means, please do Serf - no fish Biscuit though!

I'd much rather a large Gin - SLT meeting at 5..

OP posts:
SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 16:56

Working class Hogarth gin or the pink stuff?

RtHonMistress · 06/06/2017 18:01

Based on today's AIBU activity I'm going to have to opt for good old Hogarth Wink

And based on that meeting, too. Couldn't get the Octonauts theme tune out of my head for the entire duration.

Those characters did exist in the original of Captain Pugwash, the documentary said they were changed when the Beeb eventually realised they'd had the piss taken out of them.

user1496785376 · 06/06/2017 22:45

Think again gillybeanz:

gillybeanz · 06/06/2017 23:35

Thanks user
I didn't really want ti to be a myth Grin

wobblywonderwoman · 06/06/2017 23:47

That is a bizarre question. For the record I was born working class and no way would I dress my DC in character clothing or have anything other than plain linen / blue check I'm their room. I get their hair cut regularly.

I like dressing them in smart clothing. It is personal choice. I think all children are adorable in whatever they wear.

flumpybear · 07/06/2017 07:30

Bob the builder is working class, Mr Ben too, Mr Bull and Miss Rabbit from peppa pig ... not the octonauts tho
Wink
