to think we should have a "date joined" shown against our user names

so that those posters who clearly have joined in order to promote their political views only, are shown for what they are?

no matter what party you vote for, when you try to discuss something here, there are posters who are determined to close you down or present facts when they aren't true

I think the older posters here and the newbies too I guess, would appreciate knowing how recently some of these posters joined....or not as the case may be.

I dont mind getting into a heated debate with genuine MN posters, we cant all be on the same side, that would be very boring, but when someone suddenly joins a few weeks before the general election and is all over political threads saying the same thing over and over, it dampens debate and is shit, frankly

Thanks for confirming you are not going to implement this Amy.

Do find it amusing that someone claims they have no idea what 'trollhunting is!' OH COME ONNNNNNN!!!! Grin

Ravenblack · 05/06/2017 22:07

Trollhunting......... the clue is in the name!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ssd · 05/06/2017 22:07

pax, if you go into your profile and the go down the page a bit, there's a bit called "show when I joined" and you can move the arrow next to it to scroll down to when you joined

NC should be allowed when someone is posting about something sensitive, or personal etc.

But if someone NC purely to post something abusive or a definite PA, then they should have the facility to NC removed.

Ravenblack · 05/06/2017 22:09

Calm down ssd

MissShittyBennet · 05/06/2017 22:12

Messes with people NC to cause trouble more like.

Hardly either/or, though, is it?

The reality is that anything making it harder to be anonymous on here is going to act as a deterrent. Some people would stop posting entirely, others would just be less frank, honest and revealing. It would get less interesting. So that's why HQ aren't going to have it. Yes, another outcome of this is that some people will take advantage of the opportunity to be dicks. Doesn't change the bottom line though.

ssd · 05/06/2017 22:12

I agree Ma

I don't think I've ever name changed, but then again I don't post much worth hiding!

MaQueen · 05/06/2017 22:14

MNHQ could have a 3 strikes and you're out, policy. So, if they NC purely to bitch plop 3 times in a row, even if on the same thread, then their NC privileges are taken away from them.

This ^

Putting join dates, amount of posts etc, and making it nigh on impossible for people to make a new name for something personal or sensitive would be an utter disaster for mumset.

The amount of 'trolls' is small compared to the amount of people who get lots of positives and help and support from this site, and who can talk freely (and anonymously,) without having shit thrown in their face from months/several years back.

If people don't like the way this site is run, they know where the door is.

Bejazzled · 05/06/2017 22:18

Totally agree ssd

Ravenblack · 05/06/2017 22:20

And how do you define 'bitchplopping?'

Is that when someone says something you don't like or don't agree with.

One person's 'troll post,' is another person's genuine opinion.

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2017 22:22

Bitchploppers for me are the ones that go from thread to thread usually in AIBU posting a single sarky/goady comment then moving onto the next thread.

No feelings either way. Two other Forums I subscribe to have date joined, posts and location, if you give it. I didn't.

Name changed for personal stuff only.

Originally joined to because of political threads (Referendum) as other forums don't like.

SoupDragon · 05/06/2017 23:15

it was to suss out someone that posts multiple times on certain threads and not post elsewhere on the boards

Doesn't advanced search do that?

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 06/06/2017 00:33

I have been here 14 years, I know many mumsnetters in real life. My Facebook feed is packed with Mners. Mners were at my wedding and one is godmother to my son. However I deregged and took a break of a few years so I would look like a newbie and people may assume that I am a troll.

I still think clicking on a username and having some generic data would be helpful. I've been here over 10 years under different usernames so clicking on my username on a thread would just say e.g. 2+ years; 500+ posts. The years would be based on email address and the posts on current username.

ssd · 06/06/2017 08:29

I don't get the assumption that a new poster would be seen as a troll.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2017 09:42

Me neither ssd. I wouldn't even do a quick AS unless I was a bit Hmm in the first place.

With all the namechanging I could be ASing a newbie or someone that's been here since the dawn of time but it's the posting style or subject matter that twangs my radar.

ssd · 06/06/2017 09:50

same here

BTW I googled troll hunting and my god.....there is something called the urban dictionary and that was the first link that came up so I clicked it and troll hunting is apparently when you (a man) goes out with his pals desperate for sex and picks up a fat or ugly chick (NOT MY WORDS!!!!) to take home with him.....

so am none the wiser....Grin

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 06/06/2017 09:55

How can you really not know what troll hunting is in the context of MN? It's posting "you are a troll" or variations thereof on a suspect thread.

ssd · 06/06/2017 10:03

so its just accusing someone of being a troll, is that it? whats the big deal about that?

what confuses me is that surely no one of are one dimensional, I've posted here for ages but sometimes I come on here in a really arsey mood and might post something a bit against the grain, not to wind anyone up, but because I'm not feeling all that great...surely everyone does this?.........so how would you know if I'm a troll or just in a bad mood?

thats what confuses me, if a poster came on and said "really ssd you are talking a right loads of bollocks today," I wouldnt go TROLL, I'd think maybe they weren't feeling good today.....do you see what I mean?

OP posts:
ssd · 06/06/2017 10:05

that example I just gave was rubbish

what I meant was how do you tell if a poster is having a bad day or someone is trolling?
