In the last 2 years the Tories have made over £3 billion in arms deals to Saudi Arabia:

I really don't understand how anyone can vote for this gov 😡😢

YANBU.

Scandelicious · 04/06/2017 23:03

The tories haven't made money, you and everyone else have. Say what you want about TM but she's not exactly Mugabe squirreling money away in Swiss bank accounts.

So what will labour do then? No arms industry? (Genuine question)

sexymuthafunker · 04/06/2017 23:07

I just can't see how it's defensible.

And now she's trying to censor the internet - sounds very much like a dictator to me!

Confused you actually think the tories have made money selling arms to SA? You do know that the tories don't actually make the arms to sell them - the individual companies sell them. Anyway YABU. You think labour are going to stop selling arms?

Heratnumber7 · 04/06/2017 23:24

She's not trying to censor the internet. She wants internet providers to be more helpful on rooting out potential bad guys, and finding them when they stop being potentially bad and become actually bad.

ExplodedCloud · 04/06/2017 23:28

She can't censor the internet. She can witter on about that all she likes but it's nonsense. Unless she wants a national firewall like China.

caroldecker · 04/06/2017 23:32

The arms were probably sold by, among others BAE industries. They paid £200m tax in 2016. Based on JC's plan they would pay £260m a year.
Selling UK arms overseas also reduces costs to the UK armed forces. So where on JC's magic money tree does this lost income and increased costs fit?

Cheesecake53 · 04/06/2017 23:42

YA ABSOLUTELY NBU!

PortiaCastis · 04/06/2017 23:45

Read this it's all about saudi etc

Theresnonamesleft · 04/06/2017 23:50

To most people it is indefensible.
To others it's justified because selling the guns earlier this year would keep people on the streets in the U.K. safe.

caroldecker · 05/06/2017 00:23

Of course Corbyn is a fan of stable states (per his recent TV debates) so thus in favour of Saddam Hussain, Gadaffi and Assad because they are better than ungoverned states.

Oooo thats a new one carol, new idea being floated out by CCHQ, trying it out here first or is it already focus group approved?

CitrusSun · 05/06/2017 00:42

Hypocrisy beyond belief, vile woman

ExplodedCloud · 05/06/2017 00:48

See carol I don't know whether the people of those countries engulfed in the chaos would argue the case for stability. Those regimes were monstrous. What's happening to them now is monstrous.

fuckwitery · 05/06/2017 10:05

Do you think Blair didn't?

sexymuthafunker · 05/06/2017 16:53

I won't be voting for Blair FWtry

OP posts:
metspengler · 05/06/2017 17:11

Do people really believe this is specifically a conservative thing?

I suggest people pick up a newspaper every now and then if they do. They would have learnt something over the last few decades about this one.

acquiescence · 05/06/2017 17:13

Yanbu

Theresnonamesleft · 05/06/2017 17:59

No it's not just this government that has sold arms. Yes Blair was selling to Gaddafi.

However, since the Conservative government have been in power, they have gone on a selling spree. Selling to the worlds worst dictatorships and human rights abusers. Last year they sold at record breaking levels.
They were asked/advised to not sell arms to Saudi but ignored this. Instead TM went to Saudi to discuss the deal.

Pagwatch · 05/06/2017 18:05

I think she is a massive hypocrite for trying to push through a hard Brexit when she was a remainer.

But I suspect it's more that she's just prepared to change her position on anything if it is helpful to her personal position. She has no moral standards at all.

caroldecker · 05/06/2017 19:15

Justanother and Exploded

In Iraq, Syria and Lybia, what was the alternative to helping overthrow those leaders and the ensuing chaos or doing nothing (Corbyn's policy) and leaving them in charge?
or is there a secret third way, led by Hamas and the IRA?

PaintingByNumbers · 05/06/2017 19:24

maybe an alternative could be to have a plan for the post war peace, not just a plan to make lots of money for private armies like blackwater? or another plan could be to not invade, like north korea. or another plan could be to apply political pressure or sanctions, like iran. loads of ideas in just one minutes thinking time.

PaintingByNumbers · 05/06/2017 19:28

I guess things could be done via the un, not that I am a massive fan of their peacekeeping forces either, but theres no particular reason why we, the uk, have to self appoint as a world army specifically focussed on oil/gas rich nations
