To have the biggest crush on Gal Gadot??

DrumsAndRoses · 04/06/2017 22:15

Just watched Wonder Woman earlier today and I'm not sure if I want to be her or if I want to marry her. DP doesn't agree and thinks that Mila Kunis would make a much better WW. AIBU or is she?

OP posts:
McTufty · 07/06/2017 15:03

I actually do not dispute the very concerning rise in anti-semitism and am quite sure there are people who know little about her views who just won't watch because she is Israeli. But posters on this thread are studiously ignoring what she has openly said about her views on invasions of Gaza in labelling anyone who is upset by a glib attitude to 300 dead Palestinians as being racist. I find that shocking.

McTufty · 07/06/2017 15:10

Also isn't Natalie Portman Israeli? Have all these racists who hate actresses just for being Jewish and born in Israel expressed concerns about her?

Of course not. It's Gal Gadot's nasty politics that is the problem, not being Jewish or being Israeli.

Scandelicious · 07/06/2017 15:35

Rubbish. She did nothing wrong. I think she said free Gaza from Hamas. Too true!

Anyway, doesn't matter, the general feeling is that she's ace and I can't wait to take my girls to see it!!

McTufty · 07/06/2017 15:46

And I very much hope they enjoy the film.

Please stop calling people racist for disgareeing with you as to whether she said anything wrong. In my opinion she did, in a number of respects.

I agree with her about freeing Gaza from Hamas, but think maybe she should have found room in her thoughts for the countless dead Gazans, instead of ignoring them and sending thoughts and love only to her "fellow Israeli citizens" while Gazans died in their thousands. If that makes me racist which it fucking well doesn't to anyone who thinks an arab life is worth a crap, the word has truly lost its meaning.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/06/2017 16:14

Well, I found dismissing someone outright as "a nasty Zionist", giving bizarre lessons about semites and anti-semitism, yet thanking God for those sensible honest English people like Nicola Sturgeon Grin quite shocking too.
I'll make up my own mind about what I think of someone who attacks others for all their 'stupid comments', the patronizing 'you need to do some research' and the repeated anti-Israel rants.

Very good defence though, McTufty.

McTufty · 07/06/2017 16:26

tinyhands

That wasn't aimed at you, and I hope I haven't done any of the things you mention. I've only said why I personally have an issue with Gal Gadot.

It got deleted for quoting the offending post but I said on page one I wouldn't call someone that (I think it was filthy, not nasty, but either way I would never use the term Zionist as a negative or an insult, ever, because of course the Jewish people are entitled to a homeland and I don't think I've said otherwise in my life).

Scandelicious · 07/06/2017 17:06

Yes, she should have been more considerate of Palestinians while running for the bomb shelter with her small daughter Confused

No doubt Palestinians suffered more than Israelis but to level criticism at her for sending love to her own citizens who were under attack from Hamas missiles and not the Palestinians is really unfair. She's Israeli, she was under attack. That's what happens. Maybe if she were an impartial observer, fair enough, she's not - it's her family and friends under fire from Hamas missiles, her family and friends putting their lives on the line to defend her in the idf (regardless of her political position)

McTufty · 07/06/2017 19:04

Was she running for the bomb shelter with her daughter or have you just made that up? Do you even know if she lived in range of the rockets that were fired?

And I totally disagree it's unfair, it shows a callous disregard for Arab life in my opinion BUT fine, we can disagree about that. Whether it's fair or unfair is one thing and I'm happy to agree to disagree on that, but it's your bandying about of the racism card that I'm really objecting to. If you think I'm wrong, ok, but you had no right with the anti-Semite stuff.

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 07/06/2017 19:17

I agree with theaveragewife "I feel like saying I had a crush on her would be bowing to the misogynistic idea of reducing her to a sexual object. Whilst she is obviously beautiful, I'd rather discuss how talented she is and what this will do for young women."

She's bloody stunning and kick ass too, but I don't want to sound like a bloke by reducing her to just her amazing body and face.

My 10 yo DD loved the movie, although there were some scary/sad bits which would be hard for younger kids to watch. But I'm glad I took her because a big Hollywood movie with such a high percentage of female characters, all of whom are strong and integral to the story, not just eye candy, is a real rarity. Loved it.

*Just wondering if she were British and expressed support and concern for the British army during the Iraq war (many many Iraqi civilians killed), if she would get this criticism? Especially if she has served herself

She didn't say if she did or did not support the Israeli government, she expressed support for the armed forces of her own country*

@scandelicious, I asked myself this question. If I heard the British army were bombing an area with a high civilian death count I wouldn't be singing their praises on social media as it would make me feel very uncomfortable. The civilian deaths in the Iraq war was equally grim and I understand the individual British soldiers were just following orders but I wouldn't be praising the British army.

sleepyowl12 · 07/06/2017 21:25

@scandelicious, oh come off it the Israeli population were nowhere near such open targets from bombs. Yes, Hamas - who I empathatically don't support - sent a few bombs over onto Israeli territory and there were a few deaths I believe but the scale of bombing and warfare didn't compare to what the Palestinians received.

TrueColors · 07/06/2017 22:34

sleepyowl have you lived in Israel through the bad periods? I just wonder what evidence you had for that statement. Israelis are nowhere near as at-risk of bombing as Palestinians and the death row is much, much lower. However, it's outright rubbish and offensive to those who did carry their children into shelters to call it "a few bombs".

Scandelicious · 07/06/2017 23:05

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be as blasé about 'a few bombs' if it were your family under fire. And it wasn't a few bombs, it was a constant barrage of missiles. The intent was mass murder. Look at the hysteria in the U.K. now over one bomb and a couple of knife attacks! People scared to go to London, May suspending human rights legislation and you minimize constant missile attacks on a civilian population and even criticize someone for sending her love to the armed forces protecting her, the army in which she served, in which her family and friend probably serve right now. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

sleepyowl12 · 07/06/2017 23:57

Point taken a few bombs was offensive.

sleepyowl12 · 08/06/2017 00:00

Forgot to say at the end above, apologies. I was trying to say although Israel undoubtedly did suffer bombs it was not anywhere near the scale of the Palestinians in Gaza but fully acknowledge I expressed it badly. Once again apologies.

sleepyowl12 · 08/06/2017 00:28

and you are absolutely right using the phrase a few bombs was inaccurate and minimising what those Israelis who lived in areas being attacked by Hamas went through. I am mortified by my use of the word a few bombs. I was wrong.

BagelGoesWalking · 08/06/2017 01:46

Few Israelis are killed in rocket attacks because every single house or building has a safe room or communal shelter which people can reach in a very short time. Also a national air raid siren warning system to alert the population.

So just think for a moment just how many attacks have taken place over the years to make this necessary. Every single house. Not to mention the threat of chemical warfare from Saddam during Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990/1, when he threatened to "burn half of Israel".

It's also well documented that Hamas have used people as human shields and have military assets in hospitals and schools. This in no way justifies some of the heavy handed responses by various Israeli govts, which drive me to despair.

Every single person in Israel, except religious people (and they should too, imo) serve military service. So everyone has family and friends serving, whether as 18-21 y/olds or as yearly reserve service. Many Druze and Bedouin serve too.

mimishimmi · 08/06/2017 05:30

Wow, a thread about an ACTRESS has taken an interesting turn.

BagelGoesWalking · 08/06/2017 19:29

Yes, it should be that she is judged on her acting alone, as everyone else in her profession is...

mimishimmi · 09/06/2017 13:45

Yes, well, every time a British actress expresses love for her country, let's bring up the terrible things done to Ireland and the Irish and blame her personally for it...

Nah find her a bit bland personally don't think she can hold a candle to Mila Kunis (GODDESS) but each to their own I guess.
