Just watched Wonder Woman earlier today and I'm not sure if I want to be her or if I want to marry her. DP doesn't agree and thinks that Mila Kunis would make a much better WW. AIBU or is she?

OP posts:
andintothefire · 05/06/2017 22:26

She is crazily beautiful.

McTufty · 06/06/2017 00:23

It doesn't mean she supports the actions of the government all or any of the time

No, being Israeli doesn't mean that but she did support the incursion into Gaza, and said so in a way which I considered unacceptable because she did not even mention the people of Gaza and the human cost they suffered. She is entitled to her opinion, and I am entitled to mine in finding it offensive. I am Arab.

I wouldn't not watch a Tom Cruise film because of Scientololgy but there are a few people I steer clear of. I won't listen to Chris browns music, I don't want to watch Mel Gibson for example.

scandelicious I think the nasty Zionist comment was the one deleted on the first page. It's not rabid Israel hating to take offence at her opinions on Gaza (which many did consider a war crime) any more than you are a rabid Arab hater for suggesting people are anti-Semitic for giving a shit about 3000 dead Palestinians, which Gal Gadot seemingly didn't.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 06/06/2017 00:33

I love her, she is fierce and believable. I also love that Wonder Woman is having so much success worldwide, despite the MRA nuts, the anti semits and the overall women haters all having a good cry over it (and I am a Marvel girl, so... still waiting for the Black Widow movie, Marvel guys! Make it awesome!)

theaveragewife · 06/06/2017 04:00

Captain Marvel first Ofa!

OfaFrenchmind2 · 06/06/2017 10:10

Yeah, yeah, she is a fine hero, but come on, BW has been here since pretty much the begining, it is ScarJo, and no movie? T'Challa has a tantrum in Civil War and tries to go for the kill with no proof, and boom! He gets a movie. Not fair.

TheNaze73 · 06/06/2017 10:45

I'm still gutted Lynda Carter, didn't get the gig

Kaybush · 06/06/2017 11:40

I saw the film yesterday with my DD 10 and her friend who are now begging to see it again!

Gal Gadot is perfectly cast I think and out acts a very wooden Chris Pine. Strangely, for me, I found myself wishing for more action and less acting, so looking forward to the next one now the backstory's been established.

Having said that I've now read her political views and yes she is a Zionist so I've completely gone off her as an actress now!

histinyhandsarefrozen · 06/06/2017 11:53

What is it about Zionism in itself that you object to so much?

MsSlocombe · 06/06/2017 11:56

Blimey, I saw this last night and loved it. If she is Israeli and believes in Israel then that's hardly surprising.

I had to choose between the pirates and ww last night and I happily chose WW because i cannot forgive johnny D for violence to women.

MsSlocombe · 06/06/2017 11:58

TheNaze I think they should have worked linda carter in as her mother. Or aunt. Or something.

TitaniasCloset · 06/06/2017 18:48

If our children had been forced into fighting the Iraq war none of us would have stood for it. Noone wanted that was, we marched, remember?

How is being a scientologist related to war crimes and genocide and the imprisonment of children?
To the displacement of a whole race of people and stealing their homes and lands?
Some really stupid comments on here.

TitaniasCloset · 06/06/2017 18:50

And thank you mctuffy for talking sense on here and explaining my comment was not anti semitic.

TitaniasCloset · 06/06/2017 18:53

hystiny their actions in Palestine.

I wish I could link that map of Israel that marks the Palestinian territorys in green and gets smaller and smaller from 1940 to the current day. Says a lot that map.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 06/06/2017 19:04

Zionist is someone who believes in the Jewish homeland

For some reason you think many Israelis are not zionists- I can assure you most Israelis think their state DOES have a right to exist.

You are anti-Zionist i.e. You do not believe Jews may have a homeland, I understand exactly what you want, don't worry.

TitaniasCloset · 06/06/2017 19:10

Oh for gods sakes. Carry on, think what you like. No I don't believe millions of European and American Jews should feel entitled to live in Palestine if that also includes kicking the Palestinian people who have lived there for centuries off their own land and making them live in the biggest open air prison in the world.

But, go, feel sorry for yourself, add my name to the list of ' anti Semites' you feel oppressed by (,though Palestinian people are semitic too) and carry on.

Thank God for sensible honest Israelis like Noam Chomsky.

TitaniasCloset · 06/06/2017 19:13

Biggest open air prison - Gaza strip of course.

Some of you really need to do some research . i used to think like many of you. That Israel was just defending itself and that israelis have do much more in common with us so we should support them. Until I looked into it a few years ago when it all kicked off.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 06/06/2017 19:16

Grin tell me you didn't really call Noam Chomsky an Israeli? A sensible honest Israeli?

Grinyou really are getting confused arent you?

Dearie, dearie me.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 06/06/2017 19:37

Hi everyone,
You'll have noticed that we've been through this thread, we have received some complaints about it. Really, we took exception to one adjective, and although we've tried to leave what we could, it has resulted in some otherwise supportive posts being deleted. We're sorry about that, it's frustrating.
ANYWAY regardless of politics (which we are not saying isn't important) OMG Wonder Woman the film is amazing and you should all take your daughters immediately. That is all. Peace out.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/06/2017 20:29

well I will go and see it now on the strength of this thread.

BagelGoesWalking · 06/06/2017 21:04

Funny that lots of Arabs in Israel, especially Christian Arabs, are terrified of their more radical "brothers" destroying the peace they have living in Israel as citizens, with rights to vote, education, healthcare, etc etc etc.

Funny that the billions of dollars given to Arafat after the peace treaty (mostly) ended up in his foreign bank accounts.

Funny that Israel returned Sinai and Gaza with fully functioning farms and greenhouses, only for them to be smashed and destroyed.

There were many Jews living in Palestine many, many years before statehood. It's not perfect by any means but don't tar every Israeli with the same brush as Netanyahu and the right wing. You wouldn't do that with any other country so why Israel?

BunnyBunnyMooseMoose · 06/06/2017 21:32

I second every word that @OfaFrenchmind2 said Grin

HattiesBackpack · 06/06/2017 21:44

Nice to see the racists out in full force.

HattiesBackpack · 06/06/2017 21:46

And yes im calling all of you 'anti Semitics' racist, because you know hating a group of people because of their race that would be racism.

sleepyowl12 · 07/06/2017 01:25

Israel has a right to exist but Palestinians in the occupied territories are undoubtedly being oppressed by the Israeli government. I wish there could be peace in Israel for both Israeli citizens, Jews, Christian and Muslim Arab, and for Palestinians in the occupied territories. Hamas haven't helped Palestinian citizens and I don't view the current Israeli govt under Bibi have helped too. .

Criticism of the Israeli government choices at times is not anti Semitic, just as criticism of violent groups such as a Hamas is not Islamophobic.

sleepyowl12 · 07/06/2017 01:56

@Bagelgoeswalking, first I will preface this comment by saying again I surpport Israel's right to exist. I just wanted to add some figures to your statement that there were many Jews living in what is now Israel pre its establishment in 1948.

It is true there have always been some Jews in what is now known as Israel. Ottoman Palestine figures in 1880's had Jewish population at only a few %. Pogroms and persecution in Europe at this time increased Jewish immigration to Palestine to approx 11% Jews by 1922.

Approximate figures of population in Mandatory Palestine.

1922 - 78% Muslims, 11% Jews, Christian 9 %.
1931 - 73% Muslims, 16 % Jews
1937 - 63% Muslims, 27% Jews
1945 - 58% Muslims, 32% Jews
