Help DH and me solve this silly maths argument

Ok it's not an AIBU but we need this argument settled!!

I am 30.

I just said to my DH that I am MORE than half his age...
We are talking about someone on TV who is 70
DH says I am LESS than half his age.

Half his age is 35. I am 40 years younger than him so surely I am MORE than half his age?

DH says half his age is 35 and I am 30 so I'm less than half his age...

Tell us who is right please!

I think you're correct.

But I can see both sides.

Again, it's phrasing. The OP is saying, "I am younger than half this man's age, " in this case, in her OP, she is using "more than" to equate to "younger than".

Say OP is 30. OP's friend is 35. Older man is 70.
OP's friend is younger than older man, because the friend is half his age therefore the friend is half as young as him.
But OP is even younger than her friend, so she sees herself as being more than half as young as the older man, iyswim.

Your dh is right.

WhereYouLeftIt · 05/06/2017 12:15

He is more than twice your age.
You are less than half his age.

For some reason this song has just popped into my head

VeryButchyRestingFace please explain your belief that 30 is more than 35.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 05/06/2017 13:32

You are younger than him by more than half his age (what you're trying to say).
You have lived less than half the time he has, therefore you are less than half his age (what your husband is saying).
Your DH is correct.

I swear I've heard something very similar to this presented as a riddle, but worded in a way which could give 2 different answers.
The way the OP has worded it means that her dh is correct, end of. That's why I wondered if she meant to post a riddle but got it wrong!
