Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

Have a look at your local MP and whether they've done a good job?

We don't have first past the post anyway, so if you live in a safe seat then it might make little difference.

That is what depressed me.

I wonder if we will end up in a situation like trump - he lost the popular vote but won because of the proportional representation.

123MothergotafleA · 08/06/2017 10:12

I do not think TM is in full control of her business, she comes across as a fudger in any interviews which is why she is frightened of appearing in front of TV cameras. Prefers to meet the people on the doorstep she said, hoping not to bump into any more Gillian's I suppose.( the woman who gave Gordon what for)

waitforitfdear · 08/06/2017 10:17

Oh agree with you there the system should change.

I think she was once shy and awkward and in some respects still is. That may be why she comes across as wooden. She has very little charisma compared to Corbyn, Boris, Blaire etc that's for sure.

nina2b · 08/06/2017 10:36

She called the election, remember. She seemed to think that all she had to do was stay securely hidden - from any possible hassle - for the duration. It worked for her at the time of the referendum, after all.

Ridiculous woman.

Andrewofgg · 08/06/2017 11:04

waitforitdear It is true. And I read about Teresa May in the Guardian when one of Trump's people mis-spelt the PM's name Grin

Andrewofgg · 08/06/2017 11:05

And I don't buy the Guardian either. It was a colleague's copy.

Andrewofgg · 08/06/2017 11:09

Trump won because of the Federal system, not because of p.r.

We should replace the Lords with a Senate elected by p.r. with a veto on all Bills except Money Bills, as a brake on governments with a majority in the Commons but elected by a minority of the voters.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/06/2017 11:16

and people think the tories are going to srike a good deal for Brexit:

Teresa May cuts a lonely figure at EU summit

Noone wants to know her!!!!!

neveradullmoment99 · 08/06/2017 11:17

Not looking so confident.

christinarossetti · 08/06/2017 12:15

She's utterly deluded with her 'no deal is better than a bad deal' speel.

What does that actually mean? No deal is a bad deal.

I have this image of Merkel and the rest of the EU laughing as she stamps her feet and says, 'I'm strong and stable.'

Sunfun11 · 08/06/2017 12:19

everadullmoment99 Grin oh no, I almost feel sorry for her.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/06/2017 12:33

Yes, its cringeworthy and I too almost felt sorry for her.

Petronius16 · 08/06/2017 12:39

I've no time for May at all, thinks she's run a bad campaign and will be equally poor at EU negotiations.

However, I think her treatment at that EU event was pretty appalling; she's head of one state and should be treated accordingly. They did the same to Cameron - it's easy to see why some think the EU is a dreadful organisation - and I voted Remain.

Andrewofgg · 08/06/2017 12:44

"She was only the vicar's daughter but . . ."

Come on, somebody finish it and be rude!

The80sweregreat · 08/06/2017 13:12

I do actually feel a bit sorry for whoever has to face the powers that be in Europe - they are on a high after France electing 'poster boy' Macron and there isnt any sign of them getting weaker.
27 countries against one - most of which are pro EU. from what i saw 18 months ago, they seemed to like Dave Cameron and he still came back with nothing for the country - they dont seem in awe of TM as people are in the UK and will give her and the others a hard time - for this reason alone i do not envy her and for all her ' strong and stable' ' bloody minded woman' soundbites, none of it will cut the mustard with the EU - they will play hard ball and have the Tories running around like headless chickens. Maybe the Tories will implode on their own if they really mess up, as they surely will do. Europe has always been their weak spot - even Maggie Thatcher had trouble with the party over it all and she mostly in favour of being part of the club and she did get us a big refund in the 80s too. ( was no fan of hers, but she was a stronger leader than TM)

PortiaCastis · 08/06/2017 13:14

She was only the vicars daughter
Who did what she shouldn't have oughta
She dropped her drawers
For Santa Claus
And fuck knows what he taught her

citroenpresse · 08/06/2017 13:19

If you adapt a hostile and confrontational stance and treat the EU as your enemy what sort of reception do you think you are going to get?! Who knows what the UK wants out of Brexit? What IS a good deal?

Sunfun11 · 08/06/2017 13:21

Portia Grin

citroenpresse · 08/06/2017 13:24

The EU playing 'hard ball' - they are not going to allow the UK to cherry pick their way though the membership elements they want (with regard to trade), and the obligations they don't. What is unreasonable about this? How will stomping around saying 'I'm a bloody difficult woman' contribute to a reasoned process of withdrawal AT ALL?

The80sweregreat · 08/06/2017 13:34

i agree, she has already set up her stall to get them to listen - they didnt listen to DC, they wont listen to her.
for all his faults, at least DC had a bit of tact and diplomacy, TM will quickly find out that being hostile will get her nowhere.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/06/2017 13:40

However, I think her treatment at that EU event was pretty appalling; she's head of one state and should be treated accordingly. They did the same to Cameron - it's easy to see why some think the EU is a dreadful organisation - and I voted Remain.

Me too. And their behaviour was appalling. She didn't make this mess and she was Remain too.

Sunfun11 · 08/06/2017 13:46

She was only the vicars daughter
human rights she'd slaughter

To protect her land she'd
gently squeeze the Trumps' hand
alas nuffing went as planned
when she found out her mate wasn't best manned.
Disappointed in his manhood
she didn't enjoy to be screwed
even though she ain't no prude (sorry to be rude)

Ready to fuck up her own country
she'd let infant school children go hungry at lunch
thanks a bunch

Quick children run home
Bogeymay is out to get you
come what may we can't say we had no clue
all hope for a coup
buried and burnt
lessons will not be learned

Sostenueto · 08/06/2017 13:47

She is still remain and will come back with no deal and in 2 years or less there will be another referendum.

The80sweregreat · 08/06/2017 13:59

Sos, so another referendum - maybe another Indy ref for Scotland - if its a hung parliament, then maybe another election next year - on and on it will go.
there is no end in sight!

citroenpresse · 08/06/2017 14:20

The biggest issue for both Cameron and May is that they don't really know what they want. The most important element is how it plays out with the rest of the Tory party (and its backers). They need to be seen to be 'driving a hard bargain' but it's empty rhetoric - no values or beliefs behind it and the majority of business interests firmly remain anyway. May's tactic in calling an election is to play for time and have no opposition when they can finally make up their minds what it is they want. Thatcher, on the other hand, was a much more skilled and intelligent negotiator. She knew EXACTLY what she wanted and was prepared to acknowledge a lot of things that the EU cares about, in order to get them.
