Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

' - she's been in charge for the last 6 years!
Whilst I agree with a lot of this post, this statement just isn't true, she has been in charge for about 10 months.

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 18:53

I detest him with a passion so my view on him is always clouded by that

LOL. Thats how I used to be about Brown. Noone could understand me as someone who has always voted Labour, I was constantly criticizing and still do to this day. I just took an instant dislike to him and everything he said came over as smarmy...and its possible he was not actually the devil like he is in my mind Grin

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 18:56

Her speech was one of someone who's just arrived on the job and is slagging off her predecessor, 'enough is enough'

Thats exactly what it was like. Would have made total sense if someone else had been in charge and Tories had just been voted in, but that speech about her own party? Pretty much admitting they had been shit at their jobs?!

I have no idea why anyone would want to vote for Corbyn or May. They are the two most lamentable party leaders in British political history.

Unfortunately they are the only two realistic options to vote for.

Yes I know people say it doesn't have to be two parties and if a few people just broke rank it could change...but it just doesn't work that way sadly.

DaisyFlower161 · 05/06/2017 18:57

Strong and stable my arse - agree, she is all soundbite and no content. They spend all their time blaming everyone except themselves!!

20nil · 05/06/2017 19:02

sleepone I want to vote for you. I couldn'tagree more with what you're saying, all of it. This country is going to the dogs before our very eyes. I think the Tories will win and push us all the way off the NHS and education privatisation cliff. One those thungs have gone, they won't come back.

I'm voting Labour as am a member and have an excellent local MP, but am not a fan of Corbyn. Like you, I want the smallest majority possible for the Tories. Think that's the best we can hope for.

Frankiestein401 · 05/06/2017 19:08

The most telling fact is that neither the Conservative party nor its supporters are claiming that austerity was a success, and of course they won't apologise, just like they wouldn't apologise for monetarism.

Think about it, if austerity had been a success it would have been fundamental to the campaign.

That such a vicious policy was promoted was bad enough, it failing is inexcusable

Offred · 05/06/2017 19:20

JC has run a brilliant campaign because it has been all about policy.

TM was always going to win because of devolution (losing Scotland and wales for labour) the north south divide and income inequality and the fact that until VERY recently no-one vocally disagreed with austerity rhetoric as labour were about populism for years and then were all fighting against the membership/JC who wanted a return to principle.

Now, after a really good serious policy based campaign, JC really has a small chance to form a coalition govt but in reality is a small chance.

People, unfortunately, seem to have to see this austerity/brexit crap through...

Was reading this morning that farmers are now upset about brexit happening- 😵🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Kathandkim1 · 05/06/2017 19:23

Let's hope not. As a public service worker, I can't think of anything worse than another term under the Tories. I don't see a strong person. I see someone who has royally cocked up and is trying to lay the blame at someone elses door. Vote for TM?! No thanks!!

TearsOnTheGround · 05/06/2017 19:25

My worry is labour are talking about putting money into everything, which is good to think, but in reality the money isn't there to go on a spending spree. I'm scared they will do what they did last time and spend spend spend and trap people on benefits again with no way out and screw the NHS again with all their funding of mangers and pen pushers. Labour scare me a lot.

TearsOnTheGround · 05/06/2017 19:28

I work in public service now having been in the private sector my whole life so far since leaving school and I can say I am so much better off! I can't believe the difference tbh. The public sector have it bloody good in comparison to the private sector!

Littlenic73 · 05/06/2017 19:29

I was thinking the opposite really, can't make a decision and actually stick to it. Plus my husband will not forgive her for the poor phone and internet signal ( worst in Europe) as a security measure!

Cinnamon2013 · 05/06/2017 19:30

Tears - the Tories have found money to do whatever they like - including giving themselves significant pay rises when nurses have had to do without.

The Labour manifesto is costed - the Conservative one is not.

If TM wins she has a licence to spend as much money as she wants on whatever she wants, without breaking any promises.

bigmack · 05/06/2017 19:30

Has she addressed Donald Trump's appalling tweets about Sadiq Khan?

Cinnamon2013 · 05/06/2017 19:31

Tears - Just saw your second post.

I'm glad for you (genuinely!) but this isn't universal experience - I don't think the nurses using food banks would necessarily agree

TearsOnTheGround · 05/06/2017 19:40

It's hard when labour have such a track record of over spending to believe they won't do it again. It's ok saying they will plough money into this and that but it's not realistic. I'd like to plough loads of money into my house and go on a jolly with my family but it's not realistic with my finances to do so.

I get some roles within the public sector aren't better off but when I joined from private to public I was stunned I got full sick pay from day one! My previous job was unpaid sick leave until day 3 of sickness then that was statutory sick pay not full pay rate sick pay! I couldn't believe it!

cocodomingo · 05/06/2017 19:45

She is absolutely toast. Only ostriches will perceive her as sounding anything like leadership quality. The tide is turning and she may even cost the Tories the power of ruling party rubs hands in glee.

Ontopofthesunset · 05/06/2017 19:49

They could have more money if they put corporation tax back up.

Oakster1 · 05/06/2017 19:51

I will be voting for Labour. Theresa May's speech on a day when there was supposed to be no campaigning made me feel sick tbh. And I think her response could make things worse. I wasn't especially convinced by Corbyn but I have to say he is growing on me and I think he has run a strong campaign. And he is miles better than May. At the moment #voteanythingbuttory is my mantra. I have had a 9% pay cut under the Tories (god knows how much more in real terms when you take into account inflation and cost of living rises etc) so the pay rises they have given themselves whilst making cuts to public services make me fume. I am a remainer and would like to see a second referendum, I don't think we'll get that from either Labour or the Tories unfortunately. But first things first, we need to get the Tories out.

sleeponeday · 05/06/2017 19:55

she's been in charge for the last 6 years!
Whilst I agree with a lot of this post, this statement just isn't true, she has been in charge for about 10 months.

You're right of course that she's not been PM that long... but she's been Home Secretary since May 2010, so national security has been her direct responsibility for just over 7 years in one way or another. For her to give a speech saying enough is enough, which implies it's not been appropriately handled before is ridiculous.

Honestly, I cannot believe she's put David Davis and Boris bloody Johnson in such senior positions, either. a week after he'd attacked a speech given by Boris Johnson, because he assumed it was by Corbyn - similar sentiments on trying to work on bridge-building to discourage radicalisation. And then we have Boris Johnson, literally getting into unprovoked, batshit pushing and shoving with a Labour MP - does he think he's still in the Bullingdon Club, or what?! And these are the statesman we send to represent us overseas - it's just deeply embarrassing, frankly. I'd love to know what the diplomatic corps make of it.

TearsOnTheGround · 05/06/2017 19:59

But we live in a democracy. Having a second referendum is like saying I want is to vote until we get the result I want. Surely it doesn't work like that. I voted out but if the majority had voted to remain I would have had to except that and not dreamt of saying we need to vote again.

Rudi44 · 05/06/2017 20:00

She is a lying piece of shit who has erroded our NHS, our education and our police force with cuts whilst lining the pockets of the rich

Bunnyfuller · 05/06/2017 20:02

She fucked the police. She refused to listen to the police saying it was dangerous - so many crimes go to fund terrorism. Now she's blatantly avoiding or bending the facts of her carnage which are linked to her decimation of our police. The headlines don't tell you of the rest days cancelled, the family occasions missed, the hideously extended shifts and the huge volume of mental health issues buried under meaningless sops to welfare with no budget. Honestly, if you don't work in public services, you really don't know how precarious things are.you don't know how much they're putting ALL of you in danger, regardless of your earnings. Criminals don't give a shit if you earn over 80k. Neither do terrorists. Year on year 20% cuts have reduced police effectiveness across the board. I now manage the thing I look after across 3 forces. With difficulty. I have input into ensuring decision makers have the skills to make the decisions. I used to do it for my force, with difficulty. Now it's 3 forces. Policing isn't like they show it on tv, not even close.

Vote for yourself, even if it means you end up paying more tax. Your privilege will cost you far more in the long run.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 05/06/2017 20:05

They could have more money if they put corporation tax back up.

How is that?

To think Teresa May has just won the election?
Almondbrew · 05/06/2017 20:07

"but she's been Home Secretary since May 2010, so national security has been her direct responsibility for just over 7 years in one way or another. For her to give a speech saying enough is enough, which implies it's not been appropriately handled before is ridiculous. "

Not just ridiculous but dishonest.

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 20:09

Having a second referendum is like saying I want is to vote until we get the result I want.

Tell this to Sturgeon Grin

I agree, btw. Despite voting to remain and thinking Brexit is going to be an expensive clusterfuck and leave us much worse off.
