Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

She definitely won't get a landslide. It's looking more and more like she'll be lucky to hold the seats that she does have.

Of course they'll get rid of her. Putting herself in the public eye through this snap election has completely exposed her weaknesses.

derxa · 05/06/2017 13:18

I honestly think that it's in the national interest for Theresa May to be reelected with a good majority. Jeremy Corbyn can posture all he likes. He has never held office because no Labour PM ever had the least bit of faith in him.

squoosh · 05/06/2017 13:22

I honestly think that it's in the national interest for Theresa May to be reelected with a good majority.

Well we'll soon find out if the rest of the country agrees.

Almondbrew · 05/06/2017 13:24

"I honestly think that it's in the national interest for Theresa May to be reelected with a good majority

Actually there are increasing calls for May to resign over the terrible blunders regarding our security. What more proof do you need?

Almondbrew · 05/06/2017 13:26

"Can't you hear that scrape, scrape of the knives being sharpened?"

Grin definitely. And someone just as bad or worse would take her place.

squoosh · 05/06/2017 13:28

I don't know who they'd get to replace her. I can just imagine some proposed candidates saying 'Thanks for asking, but please may I be PM after all the Brexit reality hits the fan? I don't want to be in the firing line for that'.

derxa · 05/06/2017 13:28

Well we'll soon find out if the rest of the country agrees. True. It's more important than ever that everybody goes out and votes on Thursday for their choice.

citroenpresse · 05/06/2017 13:31

Absolutely NOT in the national interest to have Theresa May as Brexit negotiator. Corybn now looks like he actually wants to lead Labour to victory (that was always a key criticism). His tenacity may be exactly what is required. No deal is simply not an option. It's the Tories who are posturing.

CivQueen · 05/06/2017 13:32

When will we know what the turnout has been?

And who would benefit from a higher turnout?

I'm seeing a lot of motivated younger voters this time around, not just on social media.

It remains to be seen whether that will translate into actual votes though.

Snap8TheCat · 05/06/2017 13:36

Those on 'light' and 'desk' duties couldn't- officers need to be ready to intervene or attend a job if out. Of they aren't fit too then they are usually signed off. I know at my DH's station they are reluctant to even have them back if they aren't fully fit.

citroenpresse · 05/06/2017 13:49

"Theresa May talks tough, but her track record on tackling Islamism is woeful". The Daily Telegraph not holding back.

hackmum · 05/06/2017 13:50

squoosh: "Can't you hear that scrape, scrape of the knives being sharpened?"

Now you mention it...

The thing I love about the Tories is they're completely ruthless. They don't waste time - it'll be bish, bash, out on your ear, Theresa, if May doesn't substantially increase the majority.

I'm not optimistic, though. All the polls are still showing the Tories well ahead, and the ones that show the narrowest leads rely on young people actually turning up at the polling stations and voting - which last time, they didn't. And May's personal ratings, astonishingly, are well ahead of Corbyn's.

Factor in Scotland, where Labour no longer stands a chance, and the large number of UKIP voters switching to the Tories, and I find it very hard to see Labour winning. It's more a question of whether May ends up with a small majority or a large one.

citroenpresse · 05/06/2017 13:54

According to ComRes, May is in negative leadership ratings for the first time. She was Home Secretary....has she said 'her hands were tied' because of the ECJ? Surely that must be coming soon.

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 13:57

Is it usual for the campaigning speeches to outright lie? I was vaguely listening to May earlier on (and has a laugh at 'strong and stable actually being on the front of her podium Grin ) and she blatantly denied cutting police levels, funding and such and even said Corbyn is planning further cuts to the police force ffs...

squoosh · 05/06/2017 13:57

It's more a question of whether May ends up with a small majority or a large one.

Yes. I'm sure a Tory win will happen but it's just a matter of how decisive (or not) that win is.

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 13:58

I think May will be replaced right after Brexit is negotiated. So that she can be the scapegoat..it can be all about how she did everything wrong so don't blame the party..etc etc

christinarossetti · 05/06/2017 14:01

May and Rudd lied all the way through their TV appearances.

No, the economy is not strong. No, DA does not want to remove all DNA from terrorist data bases (just people who have been proved innocent aka).

That's why she won't debate, as she's always caught out immediately interviews.

I am really, really scared about what will happen to so many people in the UK if she does get a majority on Thursday. It's grimmer than grim to think about.

forceslover · 05/06/2017 14:06

No, hollow drivel.

derxa · 05/06/2017 14:09

even said Corbyn is planning further cuts to the police force ffs... She didn't say that. She said that historically he wanted cuts to the police force.

CivQueen · 05/06/2017 14:09

I think Brexit may have done is a favour actually.

A lot of people who will now be eligible to vote got very politicised last year.

It seemed to get everyone more aware in general of politics.

(Fingers crossed Grin)

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 14:10

What really stood out when she was answering questions though, was how she was unable to answer anything without dragging what Corbyn thinks/will do into it. Much like many posters on here actually. She should be able to answer questions about her policies and what she has done in the past without turning it round to Corbyn, or outright making things up about him. Or blatantly lying, like when she was asked about cuts to the police...

If she truly believes she is doing the right thing with these cuts to security, she should own that and admit it. Not do it then lie about it.

HornyTortoise · 05/06/2017 14:11

She didn't say that. She said that historically he wanted cuts to the police force

Nope, she said Corbyn was planning to cut the police budget.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 05/06/2017 14:13

Public safety is one of the few governmental "musts".

The Tories have failed.
