Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

I definitely trust Jeremy Corbyn more than May.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/06/2017 19:14

Jeremy strives for a peaceful world. Doe everyone not hop for world peace? Here is a possible leader that will work for that. I am shocked that so many people want a trigger happy PM. I hate the wars our soldiers have had to go and fight in the last 20 years or so, the wars that have not made us safer.I was supporting TM until she called the election , now Jeremy has my vote.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/06/2017 19:15

Sticky keyboard.Apologies.

gunting · 04/06/2017 19:42

Now.... I don't vote Tory or labour. But Corbyn's speech really was fantasy tonight.

gunting · 04/06/2017 19:43

*fantastic even Wink

Jupitar · 04/06/2017 19:48

We have just had lunch with a couple - they are both met police officers, one is a DCI, the other a DS. They are both voting conservative. As one of them said, Corbyn's 'bobbies on the beat' might look good but won't help anyone.

Good to know neither of them had to be on duty the day after a terrorist attack when all leave had been cancelled

ssd · 04/06/2017 19:51

they are lucky to still be in a job since this gov cut thousands of police jobs

still am sure your story is true..

Almondbrew · 04/06/2017 19:54

"Good to know neither of them had to be on duty the day after a terrorist attack when all leave had been cancelled"
ha! Grin

lunching tori voting cops #fakenews

CivQueen · 04/06/2017 19:56

I'm trying to find a video of Corbyns speech, I really want to watch it!

Is it true he mentioned 'difficult conversations with Saudi'?

If he did, I think he may have got some more votes.

Funny how May didn't mention the need to involve her mates to stop Islamic extremism.

KeepCalm · 04/06/2017 20:01

For those questioning, police jobs are 'safe' due to civilians being made redundant and cops taken off the streets to fill control rooms/desk jobs. the majority who leave are at retirement age OR leaving to Work elsewhere because they are so miserable/fed up they're leaving....

The government cannot make police officers redundant. Police officers cannot strike against imposed conditions. The federation who are supposed to support/protect officers have their own political agenda.

The whole things fucked.

Oh and DH, who is a riot cop, is sitting here exhausted after a ridiculous shift and back in again tomorrow. To what we don't know yet but he'll go. Thankfully we're far enough away that he hasn't been directly involved this time, unlike the riots etc, but there will be MANY more local officers working ridiculous hours just to make up for the short
fall all round. Routine incidents and other emergencies STILL have to be dealt with.

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2017 20:01

The police officers on this thread don't seem to be Tory voters. They say that a former senior met officer who says that the government is lying about police numbers is spot-on.

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2017 20:04

The Home Office is saying that it may not publish a Terrorist Funding report because it contains sensitive material.

What it means is that it points the finger at Saudi Arabia and that would be embarrassing.

Corbyn is campaigning today?

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2017 20:39

He said that campaigning would be suspended until this evening.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/06/2017 20:41

He voted in favour of the Good Friday Agreement, following years of involvement in the search for a peaceful solution. He may not have held a position powerful enough to instigate a peace process by himself but to say he was 'not involved' is a little inaccurate

He was an obscure back bencher who took delight in not backing the mainstream position on anything. It is pure fantasy to think Corbyn played any part in securing peace in Northern Ireland.

gunting · 04/06/2017 20:50

Why wasn't May saying 'Enough is enough' 2 years ago? This is about the London attacker, a similar story to the Manchester bomber. This stuff makes me really angry and upset for the victims.

To think Teresa May has just won the election?
noblegiraffe · 04/06/2017 20:53

Why wasn't May saying enough is enough 3 months ago after the Westminster attack? Why did she go almost immediately to Saudi Arabia to sell arms to a regime that supports and supplies ISIS? Why is the Home Office suppressing the report of the investigation into terrorist funding?

PigletJohn · 04/06/2017 20:58

LassWiTheDelicateAir

Ah, you mean Schrodinger's Corbyn.

Who is simultaneously so weak and insignificant that you think his efforts to facilitate peace in NI had no effect on their eventual success

And at the same time so strong and powerful that you think his efforts to facilitate peace in NI strengthened the violent forces on all sides.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/06/2017 21:17

You are not making sense Piglet. I did not say Corbyn made things worse. I said he played no part in securing peace.

It is a gross distortion to try to show him as a peace campainger.

citroenpresse · 04/06/2017 21:18

Simultaneously unelectable and too popular pigletjohn? It is not a conundrum that will convince a Tory (or sway a Labour). The peace process was not affected by Corbyn but the principle of keeping communication lines open (and Thatcher did that secretly) still stands. In terms of 'strong and powerful' he has only principles. Which is a damn site more than than the Tories (except to stay in power, forever).

Almondbrew · 04/06/2017 21:18

Westminster attack 22 March 2017
Theresa May shaking saudi Princes' hands 2 April 2017.

Hypocrite.

christinarossetti · 04/06/2017 21:44

Jeremy Corbyn isn't a peace campaigner?

He was awarded the Gandhi Foundation International Peace Award in 2013 "in recognition of his consistent efforts over a 30 year Parliamentary career to uphold the Gandhian values of social justice and non‐violence. Besides being a popular and hard‐working constituency MP he has made time to speak and write extensively in support of human rights at home and world‐wide. His committed opposition to neocolonial wars and to nuclear weapons has repeatedly shown the lack of truth in the arguments of those who have opposed him."

If he's not a peace campaigner, who the hell is?

ssd · 04/06/2017 22:21

will you all please read this thread, actual police officers talking about the reality of their jobs

Almondbrew · 04/06/2017 22:24

That's impressive Chris I had no idea.
