Listening to TM outside Downing Street vs JC - I think she may have just won the election - saying what people wnat to hear and hopefully some of what she says needs to be done will be followed through with.

The Tories are in the pockets of the Saudis. Tory policies kill their own citizens every day. but do try to turn that around somehow, to suit your own agenda.

Smurfy23 · 04/06/2017 15:28

3 terrorist attacks under her very short watch after 6 years of Home Secretary where she oversaw eye wateringly high police cuts- I dont think things are particularly strong nor stable.

TheQuestingVole · 04/06/2017 15:28

I think that to bang on about police cuts is to bark up the wrong tree. Global Islamist violence is not combated by PC Plod. Community policing does not generally produce intelligence about terror networks. Terrorism is combated by specialist counter-terrorism police working in hand with the security services, both of which have had their budgets increased in the time the Tories have been in Govt.

The spectacle ofJeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell and Diane Abbott complaining about police cuts when they seem to fundamentally think the police are tools of state violence is mind-boggling.

HornyTortoise · 04/06/2017 15:29

Just wondering what Jeremy would have said in this position.......

Not sure, but I imagine it would have something in the speech about not blaming 'normal' Muslims for this atrocity. Which is an important message that needs hammered home. I know people don't want to hear that at the moment but its true. Hatred and intolerance shown towards Muslims will just create even more hate. I'm not saying that giving a dirty look to someone on the street would make you responsible for the next attack or anything, but marginalizing people does not end well. It is not the fault or your average Muslim person. Do not blame them. Blame the scum who actually did this.

Yeah, he would definitely have had something like that in. Which would read to some as 'terrorist sympathizing' but its really not, its sympathizing with normal everyday people whilst still condemning extremists...

brasty · 04/06/2017 15:29

The Sharia Courts we have in Britain largely promote an extreme form of Islam as well. Moderate Muslims are against these. The Government does not care, and refuses to get involved

homebythesea · 04/06/2017 15:30

stereolove a bit of PATIENCE?

I'm sure the 29 families grieving loved ones lost in Manchester and London and the countless others before them will be reassured by your patience FFS

I think what TM was referring to in "enough is enough" is exactly that sort of handwringing

aquashiv · 04/06/2017 15:31

Hmmmm what exactly is she saying she is going to do though?
Ironic she of all people champions Human Rights when her policies seek to revoke them.
Think she talks the talk..that will impress the gullible.

This is your response to me refuting this assertion:

"Tory policies have killed 10 times more people than ISIS so far this year"

Confused ok then

I will repeat for the cheap seats:

Isis are doing a pretty sterling job of murdering thousands across the Middle East.

HornyTortoise · 04/06/2017 15:32

Jeremy was asked how he thinks this will impact labour votes. He looked very uncomfortable at the question and said (paraphrased) that he's only thinking of the victims today.

Don't blame him for looking uncomfortable, very insensitive question tbh. And one he cannot really win with no matter how he answers...think about it.

If he had said he thinks more will vote Labour - 'Doesn't care about the victims, only cares about winning voters'.

Says he thinks less - 'Doesn't care about the victims, only cares about losing voters'.

Says no difference really 'Doesn't care about the victims, and doesn't give a shit about voters.'

Almondbrew · 04/06/2017 15:34

" I wouldn't mind since I've got absolutely nothing to hide." even if all that spying didn't actually tackle Islamist extremism effectively? It's one thing for the state to obtain all our data and sell to highest bidder corporations but Tori policy and strategy do not suggest any real holistic and competent solving of our most pressing problems.

Instead:

Theresa may sucks up to Trump who won't do his bit toe ave the planet other form of terrorism

Theres May does loving arms deals with Saudi princes

Theresa May backs remain and then become a rabid leaver who uses xenophobic rhetoric only thing she seems committed to is that hateful rhetoric

Theresa May is a Tori through and through. Enjoing her privileges whilst looking down the less fortunate. She is full of contempt for ordinary British citizens.

Theresa May will privatise the NHS, reduce policing further (again what's all that data gathering good for if we haven't got the people to protect us--

Theresa May will destroy the relative prosperity of the UK by leaving the single market.

Theresa May will destroy further education including higher education and academic research

Theresa May make fox hunting acceptable again so that toffs can enjoy themselves whilst us lesser people fight for scraps.

Don't do this to yourselves.

Almondbrew · 04/06/2017 15:35

"Isis are doing a pretty sterling job of murdering thousands across the Middle East." ISIS funded by Saudi.

FannyWisdom · 04/06/2017 15:43

Charm I assumed that meant the UK not globally.

Isis in the UK are mostly just weaponised young men targeting easy marks.

HelenaDove · 04/06/2017 15:46

Well they can start by fast tracking disability benefits to those who suffer life changing injuries as a result of terrorist attacks. And they should be granted them for life without having to be retested or attend assesments over and over or have to keep filling in forms. We should be judging the Government by what they do in light of these attacks not what they say. Words are cheap.

OK, from the cheap seats, we dont run the Middle East but the Tories do run this country.

The Tories are in the pockets of the Saudis and have enabled sharia Law in this country.
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/five-whitehall-buildings-held-by-wealthy-businessmen-now-operating-under-sharia-rules-a6910131.html

2 people die every day from hunger and thirst in an NHS hospital.
Disabled and unemployed people die every day from benefit sanctions
Tens of thousands of elderly people die every winter.

This thread is about the UK election and Tory policies, that we can do something about.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 04/06/2017 15:50

Petronius16
the Tories have pumped out YouTube videos, heavily edited to change what he actually said Hmm You mean they have collected his quotes in one place to highlight his nasty views.

Every government has had talks with terrorists, including Thatcher
Note the word government. Whats nasty about Corbyn is that he did it in a personal capacity and paid tribute to them.

What Gordon Brown did was to stop some of our Banks collapsing Agree with that, but where he nearly bankrupted the country was by refusing to run surpluses when the economy was booming and so when the tide went out he wasn't wearing any underpants. Cause you know he ended boom and bust.

hiccupgirl · 04/06/2017 15:52

I would never vote Tory anyway so she was never going to win my vote whatever she said. And I really hope people can see through the sound bites which will do nothing to actually change anything.

But my thought is why was the threat level downgraded from critical less than 2 weeks after the Manchester bombing? I know an independent body recommend this but I would expect an strong, stable and hard line leadership to have been more on the ball than this. But as Home Secretary and then PM, May has proved that she hasn't got a handle on terrorism at all.

PigletJohn · 04/06/2017 15:54

"She's not got charisma like he has"

How unkind.

See how she holds her audience spellbound in her local toothpaste factory

How she can't go to debates because she "travels the country to meet the people"

How she is mobbed by cheering crowds wherever her bus stops

Slightly off topic but relevant to economy which affects funding of public services.

Look at the credential of signatories putting their name to this

LOL. Have you ever tried giving away free money, a crowd rapidly forms, screaming and shouting in delight.

Petronius16 no GB didn't cause the crash but prior to the crash Alastair D who was PM went on a huge spending spree increasing our debt and deficit and then the crash happened and it increased more as we bailed them out. You cannot argue this - they took a budget in surplus to one in huge deficit and debt prior to the crash.

7461Mary18 · 04/06/2017 16:09

I don't think the threat level would have affected London last night. The police were there in something like 8 minutes. Even if the threat level had been the highest they would not have got there any sooner.

Petronius16 · 04/06/2017 16:09

Walking, here's an example of what I call editing to change what was meant.

video includes a clip of Mr Corbyn saying the words “abolish their army,” taken from a speech he gave at a Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament event in 2012.

In fact, he said: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every politician around the world, instead of taking pride in the size of their armed forces, did what the people of Costa Rica have done and abolished their army and took pride in the fact they don’t have an army?”

Not quite the same.

In a private capacity, as was Trump in 1995 and he paid the IRA money.

Labour used the surplus to bring down the shocking waiting times in the NHS under the Tories.

scaryteacher · 04/06/2017 16:09

Hiccup It was downgraded because JTAC recommended it. How long would you like it remain at the highest level? Even if it had been at the highest level, would last night not have occurred? You can't protect against the nutters out there.

For all those having a pop at the PM. As Home Secretary she was a member of the cabinet. Budgets and some decisions would have been outwith her control as they would have been driven by the posh boys and their circle. For the poster who said she decimated HM Forces, she didn't. The blame for that one is firmly at the feet of Cameron and Osborne, and that is where HM Forces have always placed it.

CivQueen · 04/06/2017 16:10

Boring WalkingOnLeg0, at least come up with some new slurs.

It was nasty if JC to do it in a personal capacity? He paid tribute to all the people who died during the troubles.
