Shop assistant rude

I went to boots to get one of those foundation matches and just as the lady was about to match me I remembered that I'd used a facial moisturiser with added self tan the night before. It really didn't occur to me before then but when I realised I asked her if I could just come back another time as the match is unlikely to match my skin tone. Her reply was 'well you know we have a lot of customers and you should have thought about that before you came'. I asked her could she stop being rude as it was a mistake and it takes all of two seconds to match it anyways, she started raising her voice and began to tell me how ridiculous I was for coming the night after I had tanned my face. I just turned around and accidentally on purpose knocked some stuff off her stand with my huge handbag, walked out and told her to calm down and that was that. I'm so pissed off though should I complain even though I was equally as unreasonable by knocking the things over? She was so fiesty and down my throat I really can't believe her rudeness

She was a bit rude. You deliberately knocked a load of stuff over. You're the one who looks worst here.

Want2beme · 04/06/2017 18:10

I have worked in retail for short periods and there are some awfully rude people out there, I mean really awful, I had no idea. People can be a nightmare. I think she was wrong to speak to you in that way. She WBVU. You were not, but could have handled it better. Don't let people get you down. We can all be a pain in the bum.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 04/06/2017 18:30

She WBVU. You were not, but could have handled it better.

You can't seriously be saying you think it was reasonable of the OP to knock over a stand of stuff on purpose, surely? Confused

Imamouseduh · 04/06/2017 18:31

Of course you are in the wrong. You acted like a dick and I'd be ashamed to show my face in there again, let alone complain.

Want2beme · 04/06/2017 18:48

OP said she knocked over a couple of signs with her bag. I said she could have handled it better.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 04/06/2017 18:55

Actually, Want2beme, OP said:

"I just turned around and accidentally on purpose knocked some stuff off her stand with my huge handbag."

Not signs. Products on a stand. On purpose.

That's horrific behaviour and requires a lot more than "handling it better".

I can't believe this thread is still going........

Right? I mean, the OP clearly ended the thread. Twice. Grin

Want2beme · 04/06/2017 19:08

Further down the thread she said she knocked a sign or two over. It's not horrific behaviour.

rugratowner · 04/06/2017 19:11

Gosh so many harsh responses.
The customer is always right and should be spoken to politely. In this situation the shop assistant should have understood the OP had realised her mistake and didn't want to waste her/the shop assistants time any further.

Perhaps knocking over the display made you as bad as the shop assistant. But I think I would have done the same!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 04/06/2017 19:21

The customer is always right and should be spoken to politely.

The customer is not always right. That phrase originally comes from agreeing with the customer in terms of preference e.g. If they don't like green, don't show them any green clothes.

It does not mean the customer is in the right even when displaying shocking behaviour by knocking over stands in a shop.

BellyDancer124 · 04/06/2017 23:06

I'm with the shop assistant. Boots is a busy place and you sound annoying and passive aggressive. YABU.
