Shop assistant rude

I went to boots to get one of those foundation matches and just as the lady was about to match me I remembered that I'd used a facial moisturiser with added self tan the night before. It really didn't occur to me before then but when I realised I asked her if I could just come back another time as the match is unlikely to match my skin tone. Her reply was 'well you know we have a lot of customers and you should have thought about that before you came'. I asked her could she stop being rude as it was a mistake and it takes all of two seconds to match it anyways, she started raising her voice and began to tell me how ridiculous I was for coming the night after I had tanned my face. I just turned around and accidentally on purpose knocked some stuff off her stand with my huge handbag, walked out and told her to calm down and that was that. I'm so pissed off though should I complain even though I was equally as unreasonable by knocking the things over? She was so fiesty and down my throat I really can't believe her rudeness

OP posts:
HoldBackTheRain · 04/06/2017 07:41

And agree with Trifle please don't call women cunts!

kali110 · 04/06/2017 08:33
Hmm Wow Should you make a complaint? You wasted her time, other customers and then knocked over her display, yet you want to make a conplaint? Yet shes a bitch? Hmm Your colours are showing on here with your responses too Confused

This is why i refuse to ever work retail again

Nikephorus · 04/06/2017 08:39

You had the moral high ground at the very start then you plummeted downhill fast. Being stroppy - not good. Knocking over her display - childish.

Nikephorus · 04/06/2017 08:41

Oh I feel terrible - the OP announced that the thread had ended twice and I've posted anyway Grin (In my defence I'd only read the first page at that point!)

Mulberry72 · 04/06/2017 08:43

Rude, childish?

Yes, you were! Grow up!

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 04/06/2017 08:43

Yeah bad customer service.
Buy why worry now you are probably banned from store.

PhuqIt · 04/06/2017 08:43

She was rude yes - but knocking stuff over in a shop on purpose? Glad you wasn't with me, how embarrassing!

Ariawyn · 04/06/2017 08:53
Hmm
Bedsheets4knickers · 04/06/2017 08:54

Sometimes even minimum wage shop assistants lose their shit .. I'd move on , enjoy your Sunday and get a foundation when you have not fake tanned the night before .. I think the uk have a lot more pressing issues today .

harderandharder2breathe · 04/06/2017 09:02

She was rude but you were a knob and acted like a spoilt toddler having a tantrum. Get a grip

user1495522824 · 04/06/2017 11:01

YAB sort of U. Yes the assistant was rude, and you didn't purposely cause the situation, you'd forgotten you'd applied tan... but have you worked a till or a counter on a Saturday? A hot, sunny Saturday where everyone goes out and goes shopping at once? Yes she should have handled it better but you have no idea how much crazy she may have already served that day. And smiled and nodded at and died a bit inside. That is not an excuse for her rudeness but I can see why she may have blurted it out. You then put yourself massively in the wrong by knocking her stand over- you purposely caused damage. I am a retail duty-manager and I'd be cross if one of my staff had said that to you but I'd also not want you back in my shop as you clearly can't be trusted not to take your rage out on my innocent fixtures and stock. You're neither of you covered in glory but I think you come off worse!

Amaried · 04/06/2017 14:18

Her behaviour was bad, yours was twice as bad..
Honestly the fact that you still think you can complain leads me to think that you're a little bonkers as well

Guavaf1sh · 04/06/2017 14:21

YABU. And childish

BeyondTheReasons · 04/06/2017 14:24

Would this qualify as bad service at boots?

Go up to the photo counter, assistants talking, know I'm there and ignore me.

Finally comes over.

Me - I was just wondering if I collect my order from here?

Shop assistant: yes if it's from boots online (well I wasn't going there to get my weekly groceries but whatever).

Goes get order. Hands it to me, not saying a word.

Me: thank you, do you need me to sign anything?

Looks at me. Says nothing and then starts talking to the other assistant again.

Hmm
LittleBooInABox · 04/06/2017 14:24

YABU

She may have been a bit short, but that didn't give you the right to "accidentally on purpose" knock things off for her to clean up after your entitled self.

I'd be ashamed of my child did that. Perhaps you should avoid mean people in future op, if you struggle to remain in control of your own actions. Jesus!

Ravenblack · 04/06/2017 14:26

I hate the old 'first world problems' chestnut as much as the next man, but the OP sounds like an entitled-to, objectionable bratty child. I hope she is 16. Only a child or teen would behave like this.

Ridiculous, petty, childish behaviour. The shop assistant was a bit sniffy, but you OP behaved in a childish and pathetic manner. If you had been my friend, and you had behaved like that when you were with me, I would have put you right in your place, and told you to get a grip and stop behaving like a petulant child!

Ravenblack · 04/06/2017 14:27

Oh and YABVVVU!

HildaOg · 04/06/2017 14:27

You knocked over her stand, exactly the type of person that would be obnoxious long before she said anything to you. She may have stood up to your bullying behaviour but I don't for a second believe that she was rude. Retail staff have to put up with a lot of aggressive, horrible people.

Wishimaywishimight · 04/06/2017 14:35

I don't believe for a moment that she was "practically shouting" at you. I think you have exaggerated her behaviour in order to justify your own. You could have kept your dignity and perhaps asked to speak to a manager rather than throwing a tantrum - very much uncalled for.

Missingthepoint · 04/06/2017 14:47

I can't believe this thread is still going........

arethereanyleftatall · 04/06/2017 14:54

Going to have a foundation match with fake tan on is now probably on one of those lists of stupid things customers do.

ForalltheSaints · 04/06/2017 14:55

In my experience Boots have in recent years reduced their staffing levels to a level which is below what I think is required for the number of customers they have (and yes I have worked in retail). This does not help.

The OPs behaviour and posting when I assumed tired late at night suggests a lack of perspective, and exaggeration possibly. Keeping quiet and not going there again might be the best response.

LauderSyme · 04/06/2017 16:22

Re previous posters plea not to call women the c word. I understand your objections; it is misogynist for an epithet about our genitals to be considered the worst insult.
And as a witty poster on a thread earlier in the week mentioned, many recipients of the slur possess neither the depth nor the warmth to warrant it Wink
But tbh on those unhappy occasions when I have to deal with a customer as rude, unpleasant and entitled as the OP, "fucking" followed by "cunt" "arsehole" or "wanker" are the responses that first come to mind!
We use taboo language to help relieve strong, uncomfortable feelings, which is vital when one has to promptly move on to the next customer and be all breezy, polite and professional.

CircleofWillis · 04/06/2017 17:12

I hate the use of the word cunt as a pejorative. Can we start a campaign to reclaim it as the most positive compliment ever. E.g. "That teacher was a wonderful cunt who managed to instil in me a love of books which is why I'm a writer today." Or "Princess Diana was really was the most amazing cunt who went out of her way to help those in need" or "I love my cunt of a mum" or "my DP brought me flowers to cheer me up. He is such a thoughtful cunt" or "I really have the centrist group of best friends". Wink
