To not understand how you can vote Tory after watching this

Not trying to be goady. Not trying to start a fight.
This video truly shocked me to the core and I actually found it hard to finish.
If you're planning on voting Conservative - has this video given you pause for thought? Is there a way you can explain your choice in light of it? Genuinely curious.
Video is at the top of the page (article worth reading too.)

I'd rather listen to them than read a manifesto they did not write. If that offends you then I don't really care.

Besides what's the point of reading the Tory manifesto they haven't got spines enough to stop u turning.

Sorry have better things to do.

Livelovebehappy · 02/06/2017 23:19

To be honest, Captainproton has said she watches the debates on TV, which pretty much go over a lot of what's in the manifestos anyway. That's what the debates are there for - to quiz the leaders on their proposed policies. So as far as I can see, you can still get an idea of what the parties stand for by watching the televised debates.

Livelovebehappy · 02/06/2017 23:24

From what I understand Helena, Stephen is still receiving PIP; the only thing he has lost is the motorbility car which, as I've said, he should be able to fund his own car on £30k a year I would have thought?

Bluebeedee · 02/06/2017 23:26

People who have decided to vote Tory probably won't watch it so it won't change their minds

Fontella · 02/06/2017 23:32

People who have decided to vote Tory probably won't watch it so it won't change their minds

Another sweeping generalised assumption about how 'Tory' voters might think and behave that means absolutely nothing.

I watched it. Others have said they watched it. I'm still voting Conservative.

Bluebeedee · 02/06/2017 23:33

Fontella- I'm talking about the people who said they wouldn't watch it and are still voting Tory. Crikey the defensiveness!

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 02/06/2017 23:38

Until manifestos are made legally binding, they mean very little. The last 20 years of politics should prove that many key actions taken were kept out of manifestos as they'd have been hugely unpopular, while no few of the most vote winning ones were swiftly booted into the long grass or u turned on.

By their deeds shall you know them. What they say or write when trying to get elected needs to be taken with a large dose of experience.

Fontella · 02/06/2017 23:45

Crikey the defensiveness!

No defensiveness here. Just rather bored of the leftie liberal agenda that seems to dominate every political discussion on Mumset, like it's some kind of rite of passage to even be a member on here.

If people don't want to watch the video they don't have to. They can vote how the hell they like. One politically slanted video on the Guardian website is not going to sway anyone with half a brain. Likewise if I posted a 'right wing' video that enforced my political beliefs I wouldn't expect it to change the mind of a Labour voter, because it's all propaganda, whatever side of the political fence you are on, or even sitting astride it.

You made a sweeping, pointless generalisation about 'people who have decided to vote Tory' so don't try backtracking after you've written it.

TrollMummy · 02/06/2017 23:57

I agree manifestos are just fairy stories. Brexit supporters campaigned on the promise of millions of pounds a week for the NHS and pretty much admitted it was nonsense as soon as the result was in. People actually voted for Brexit believing that this would happen. Political parties need to be held accountable for these things.

LivLemler · 03/06/2017 00:04

I haven't been able to rtft.

I saw that article and the videos a few days ago and I haven't been able to shake them.

Please, whatever your politics, watch Alex's video.

Please consider people who end up in situations like this (which could be any one of us) when you cast your vote. You may think the party to help people as vulnerable as this are Tory, labour, lib dem, monster raving loony, whatever. Just please please consider how you want our government to treat our most vulnerable citizens.

Killdora · 03/06/2017 00:35

Yeah I'm with a op on this.

Alright, they may not be legally binding. But they are a set of policies that you are voting for.

And you can't even be bothered to read them, even at a minimum for the only party you will consider.

How can you seriously say 'I've thought about it and 'x' is the best party to lead the country' when you don't even know half of the stuff that is in their manifesto?!

Bluebeedee · 03/06/2017 00:56

Fontella - quite bored too, couldn't be bothered to read your response to be honest

Carolinesbeanies · 03/06/2017 00:57

I know plenty getting tena lady on prescription, and theyre not dementia patients, clearly somethings not quite right with some of these stories. I know many fully functioning, healthy, working families, on tax credits, being housed in disability suited flats and houses.
Perhaps this thread should have read, 'if youre in ground floor social housing, please offer to swap with Alex?

Personally, Id assess every familiy in social housing, in every area, and rehouse the lot as per need. Id do away with the bedroom tax, and simply rehouse. Why is there even an option to live in social housing with several empty bedrooms?! We have a housing crisis, as well as a dire situation regards disability support, and you want to blame the tax payer whose only crime is paying the bills in the first place?

As Bob Crow once famously said, he had no moral obligation to leave his council house. There are thousands and thousands more just like him. Kathy Burke, finally did the honourable thing (but it took years) and gave her council flat back to the council. Many, the majority, dont.

OP, your outrage should be at those who are abusing state resources, those stealing from the likes of Alex, not those who arent. Plenty of labour voters happy to ignore videos like this as long as 'theyre alright jack'.

Fontella - quite bored too, couldn't be bothered to read your response to be honest

Not bothered enough to read it, but bothered enough to go to all the effort of posting a trite response to let us know how bored you are?

If you could be bothered to read my post you might actually see that I do at least attempt to respond to the message, rather than the messenger, but if taking potshots at people who disagree with you is what you consider discussion then that's ok too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/06/2017 01:10

That's abysmal. The disabled are treated worse than criminals.
How anyone can vote for these cretins is beyond my comprehension.
All you smug secure Tories may end up jobless sick mentally ill or disabled yourself one day. You're taking a huge gamble that you'll never need help. That said However the suffragettes fought and Emeline Pankhurst died for us to have the vote, so Who am I or anyone to tell you what party to vote or not to vote for

LuluJakey1 · 03/06/2017 01:11

The posts on here from those who are 'bored' , who 'know plenty who get tena ladies on the NHS' , who would think nothing of throwing families out of their social housing if they have a spare room , are disgusting.
Are you forever to be at risk of losing your home if you have a spare room because you can't afford to buy your own home?
The reason we have a crisis in social housing is because Margaret fuckng Thatcher and her Right to Buy policy that dessimated social housing and put councils off building any more because they were forced to sell it off. Housing Associations are run by Tory cronies who make millions at the expense of those who can't afford to buy a home of their own. Their CEOs are paid huge salaries whilst supposedly working for charities.
Those who feel 'bored' by it all are presumably sitting safe in their own private homes, not fined for daring to have a box room spare or scared of the day of the letter arriving to tell them they have to move out to a one bedroomed flat 30 miles away so someone else can have their 2 bedroomed flat- because that is what you are suggesting. Shame on you!
And Susan in the video is not talking about Tena ladies for those with syress incontinence, she is talking about incontinence pants for those who lose control completely and don't get to a toilet in time. Tena ladies should not be NHS funded. Incontinence pants should.

Carolinesbeanies · 03/06/2017 01:14

PS I watched it, Im still voting tory......but may spit on my socially housed neighbours as they drift off to their 16 hour contracts in their new car, 'disabled' by baby to work 40 hours. Those videos get you mad dont they?

Carolinesbeanies · 03/06/2017 01:17

"Are you forever to be at risk of losing your home if you have a spare room because you can't afford to buy your own home? "

Is that cant afford to rent either? Or is this going to turn into a London centric row about have you tried living in Islington on benefits?

I thought minimum wage meant self sufficiency? Jeremy Corbyn does.

SuperBeagle · 03/06/2017 01:20

The thing is, regardless of which way you vote, there's unlikely to be anyone who agrees with all of the party's policies. People have different priorities, and Tory voters may not agree with one aspect of Tory policy while strongly agreeing with another policy and not seeing anything comparable in the Labour manifesto. That doesn't make them wrong, and it doesn't make them evil. Neither does it make Labour voters wrong to vote for things that Tory supporters think are daft or unsustainable.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 03/06/2017 01:23

I will vote Tory, and will continue to do so.

Carolinesbeanies · 03/06/2017 01:30

"tell them they have to move out to a one bedroomed flat 30 miles away so someone else can have their 2 bedroomed flat"

Yes I am suggesting that. We are spoon fed, there are those so desperate for any suitable housing. Any.
Yet youre entitled now to social housing the size of, and in the area you choose? We have a housing crisis.

I agree, the right to buy was ridiculous, but all of a sudden, all those needy tenants, managed to buy them? Doesnt that even register? I only know of Kathy Burke who gave her flat back, and quite possibly, simply because of the public spotlight. She defended her right to stay for years. But there are thousands, currently in social housing, who shouldnt be. Are they crying over these videos?

HelenaDove · 03/06/2017 02:05

Caroline whats your opinion on the social care policy.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 03/06/2017 02:25

I've never voted Conservative in my life but I will be next week. I've voted Labour (when young and idealistic) and as a first language Welsh speaker, I've voted Plaid. Last couple of elections I've voted Lib Dem and actively campaigned for them (never will again though) and this time I'm voting Conservative.

As a fellow Cymro that blows my mind that you would vote conservative, the party that persistently under fund wales, closed a lot of our communities down when they closed the pits and didnt bother funding anything after, then the EU funding came along and improved things for awhile and then Wales voted to leave although I do live in 1 of the only constituencies that voted to remain, the tories are going to irretrievably damage welsh farming once all the subsidies get cut and if you live rurally good luck tying to find a police station with someone in it, an ambulance within a sensible distance, these are all down to the tories cuts.

They tell us that its labours fault the welsh NHS is in such dire need while continuously cutting the funding to wales.

Sorry if I came across combatitvely Im never sure if I have or not wasnt my intention Flowers

ILikeyourHairyHands · 03/06/2017 03:46

Just, my husband is Welsh, he's Valleys, and he's always voted Conservative.

I hate your attitude, the fact you can't believe it, it makes me so angry, why do you not accept there are people different to you?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 03/06/2017 05:35

A fellow fucking Cymry?
