To be scared of Labours Land tax

Dragongirl10 · 01/06/2017 15:11

Just read about this, Labour are proposing a Land Value Tax on any land owned, could cost thousands a year for anyone even with a small house, not just the rich....they have not publicised this at all.

People with modest homes could be forced to sell or go into debt, or be repossessed...

No. I am merely saying that I think it's a bit cheeky to criticise someone else (not a superstar or duke etc) for not contributing and not wanting to have their income raided further when they have already contributed far more than you!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 19:33

mousse

Might be safer to be fair

I have to assume that kick is not understanding on purpose or has had a long and tiring day

Moussemoose · 03/06/2017 19:38

KickHisAssSeaBass more in absolute terms or as a fair share?

I was born into a supportive family, my education was paid for by the state, I choose to work in the public sector earning less than I otherwise might. I am happy with that and happy that I pay tax in a fair way.

I pay more than others but I do not resent that because it is fair. You are suggesting that someone pays more than me because they earn more than me that is not fair.

And you criticise my logic......

KickHisAssSeaBass · 03/06/2017 19:49

You seem very sure you get to determine what is "fair". Good for you.

But if others don't agree with you, and they have other opportunities that probably won't exist here if labour get in because of their policies and taxes, you also think you get to criticise them for making the decision to follow them? Ooooook.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 03/06/2017 19:55

Can you imagine what would happen to the country if we all thought, fuck it I'm not going to plan for the future or live within my means, I'll only get punished for it later on. Instead I'll sit in my arse all day or fritter my money on designer clothes and cruises.

Well arguably it would be better for the economy of people spent, all that VAT. Just a thought

I have stated several times that there would be possibilities for life long mortgages. Or people most of the time can downsize fairly easily. Older people are adults not toddlers who need guiding.

You really think that all of this is down to life choice... Seriously? That is utterly naive. You don't think people who have money should have to contribute to the running of the country NOW rather than when they were working 'hard' 10+ years ago...?

You cannot have your cake and eat it, this includes older people.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 03/06/2017 20:00

However, I think there's a fairly good argument that someone who has paid tax at those sort of levels has already paid a "fair" share into society, never mind what he'll go on to pay. He could say that you haven't, for all your principles - principles don't pay bills, cash does!

Oh what a load of tosh yawn. Perhaps he should be knighted, what an amazing chap Hmm

Lots of us are net contributors.

Moussemoose · 03/06/2017 20:00

KickHisAssSeaBass I don't determine what is fair the government of the UK does.
I fail to follow your logic after that. You say Labour will take away opportunities - which ones? Opportunity to go to university? Opportunity to access health care? Opportunity to succeed in life? Opportunity to earn loads of money and not pay your fair share?

I am happy to pay more tax. You?

KickHisAssSeaBass · 03/06/2017 20:03

But this question isn't about not contributing to the running of the country as is, is it?

It's about proposed labour changes. If they get in, and they are as bad as some of us fear, and they bork the economy again, mousse is saying that high earners who didn't like the policies and didn't vote for them shouldn't leave or it would be unfair.

KickHisAssSeaBass · 03/06/2017 20:07

Well that depends. I pay a shitload as it is. If he got in and it went up and his policies worked, that would be fine.

But they won't. Labour governments never do. The maths simply doesn't work. Luckily there's loads of net contributors like increasingly who will be delighted to plug the gap with ever higher rises Grin

Moussemoose · 03/06/2017 20:10

KickHisAssSeaBass to be quite honest I think the country would be alot better off if all the high earners fucked right off. Please, please leave.

Too many people are in high earning jobs due to private education, parental support during internships and good old fashioned nepotism. If we actually had competition based on talent and intelligence rather than bought privilege I think the UK would be significantly more successful.

Moussemoose · 03/06/2017 20:13

Labour governments never do so the '45 Labour government and its massively unsuccessful NHS policy, is that the one you are talking about?

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:15

Where exactly did mousse say that kick ?

KickHisAssSeaBass · 03/06/2017 20:17

Hahahahahahaha that may be the funniest post I've ever read on here. Brilliant.

Who on earth do you think is going to pay for running all those railways and all those free university courses for hundreds of thousands of students, to say nothing of the billions needed for the NHS?!

It's not 1945 any more. That was heading on for 100 years ago. The rest of the western world has moved on. If that's the last successful labour government you can think of, it's really not a great argument.

KickHisAssSeaBass · 03/06/2017 20:18

See above rufus. She thinks all high earners should leave the country 😂😂😂😂😂

Moussemoose · 03/06/2017 20:19

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer

Don't ruin this with logic!

There are unicorns that need eye lashes somewhere. Hey is that a dinosaur?

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:20

No kick

Your post comes before mousse saying leave the country

So she didnt say it

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:20

What??

Dinosaur??

Where???

Rufus200 · 03/06/2017 20:21

I'm petrified!!! DH and I worked out on the figures going around that after paying NI and income tax, we would then have to pay over 50% of our joint income to cover the land Value tax! How are we supposed to pay our utility bills and put food on the table for our children?

Found these figures on twitter

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:22

Try spending a day with my dad and tell me he isn't like a toddler that needs guiding?
He can barely get to the bank, let alone manage the stress of a house move. My last one nearly pushed me over the edge and I'm half his age without a neurological disease.

You haven't told me what you would do with him given the scenario I gave you, and should he be required to sell his house to pay yet more tax.
Should I put him in an old people's home given there is no suitable housing available?

I was being sarcastic re cruises and designer clothes. Not my thing.
We'd just move to NZ and take our high rate of tax with us.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:23

Its ok rufus

Its a load of bollocks at the moment propagated by the lying right wing media

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:23

Or is it rufi

Rufus' or rufi?

Moussemoose · 03/06/2017 20:28

KickHisAssSeaBass

You really struggle with the logic don't you? I didn't say they 'should' leave I said I 'wanted' them to leave. Big difference. If the high earners leave the jobs remain. It is not the jobs that go it's YOU.

Also, once they left I implied other - competent - people would take their place. So all the tax revenue would be paid in by other people. People who weren't stupid, self obsessed twunts with no idea of history.

I can dream......

Anyway when JC wins you better all be off. If you keep promising it you better see it through. I was planning on voting Green but all these people saying they will go have made me change my mindWink

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 20:30

Where exactly did mousse say that kick ?

She didnt did she

C'mon fess up lovely

Increasinglymiddleaged · 03/06/2017 20:33

Try spending a day with my dad and tell me he isn't like a toddler that needs guiding?

Your Dad has an awful disability, a terrible horrible piece of awful luck that cannot have been planned for. As I said much further up, those with disabilities should be exempt from bedroom tax/ be supported to find the best accommodation for them which he seemingly already has. You cannot plan for everything in life and surely your Dad's predicament brings that home to you?

I have said several times that in any case whatever the scenario if people own their houses they would be able to stay as they could free up equity.

Do you think that millionaires with wealth rather than income should basically have to pay no tax at all? Do you think that schools should not be properly funded? Do you think people should not have an equal opportunity to succeed independent of background?
