Trump, in the first four months of his administration, has given as many ethics waivers to White House staff as Obama gave in eight years.

Never forget Donald Trump petitioned Ireland to build a sea wall to protect his golf course from global warming and climate change.

Roussette · 01/06/2017 08:46

3pm in the Rose Garden? I agree, why does everything have to be all about him. I do imagine he is perhaps going to stay in as it is a bit of a vote catcher, lots of businesses are against it, Tillerson and Ivanka are dead against it, Exxon shareholders voted strongly against it etc etc

Thing is with Trump, he does things on a whim and if he can preen and talk crap about how wonderful he is at staying in the Agreement, he will....

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 01/06/2017 09:10

I get the impression he's had more staff turnover in his first 4 months than Trump had in 8 years. Perhaps the two are related?

Lweji · 01/06/2017 09:16

than Trump had in 8 years
Shock
Why say things like that? It might happen. Knocks on wood.

DOJ granted warrants to conduct surveillance on certain journalists to find leakers

So, it's back to deep throat meetings in darkened car parks at 3 am.

Or burner phones.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 01/06/2017 09:19

than Trump had in 8 years

Oh no oh no oh no oh no! What have I done? (I meant Obama of course.)

Chilling

Gumpendorf · 01/06/2017 10:02

On the Paris Agreement, I suspect that he will stay. Hence the big flourish. He will expect huge and bigly praise for doing the right thing.

Or maybe I'm wishful thinking Confused

Is a Trump box like the one Pandora had?

Lweji · 01/06/2017 10:18

Except for hope.

PerkingFaintly · 01/06/2017 10:32

Just need the last person to speak to him at 2.55 pm to say, "No one's turned up at the Rose Garden, because they already know you're pulling out of the Paris Agreement," and he'll go out and announce the US is staying in.

Something odd in that NYT story about warrants to surveil journalists.

"The Justice Department has gotten a warrant from the US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court — also known as the FISA court — to conduct electronic surveillance on a group of journalists who’ve been the recipient of leaked information, the source said."

But I thought Clapper was careful to state in the recent hearing (the one with Sally Yates), that FISA warrants could only be used against foreign citizens and - IIRC - only used for surveillance outside the US.

One could check that second bit from the transcript, but I'm pretty sure about the first bit.

BiglyBadgers · 01/06/2017 10:45

Is a Trump box like the one Pandora had?

Or like the one in Seven. Whatever you do "don't open the box!!!"

BiglyBadgers · 01/06/2017 10:48

I don't know perking. That does sound odd when you point it out, but I am assuming that there are warrants that allow them to conduct surveillance on US citizens, so possibly just misleading wording. Alternatively it could be foriegn journalists. I am thinking Buzzfeed and the Guardian have both been recipients of and published leaked info.

PerkingFaintly · 01/06/2017 10:51

There must be warrants allowing surveillance on US citizens but... from the FISA Court?

Would have to double-check what Clapper said (and I don't have time today), but he made a specific point of explaining this.

Lweji · 01/06/2017 11:06

But I thought Clapper was careful to state in the recent hearing (the one with Sally Yates), that FISA warrants could only be used against foreign citizens and - IIRC - only used for surveillance outside the US.

But they they could put, say, British journalists under surveillance.

Roussette · 01/06/2017 11:07

Is a Trump box like the one Pandora had?

Nah! It's full of obselete shit and costs $69.99 a month. Pandora had a fab box Grin

Lweji · 01/06/2017 11:12

Unless it's an actual Pandora TM box. Wink

Orlantina · 01/06/2017 11:16

Do you think he'll do 2 tweets:

  1. I have made my decision on the Paris Accords. The US will

(10 minutes later)

  1. Stay in
PerkingFaintly · 01/06/2017 11:19

But they they could put, say, British journalists under surveillance.

Exactly so. Although the article continues "The journalists are not the target, according to my source", and there's further insider discussion.

Of course, it is reyther amusing that this is all apparently coming from an un-named Washington source. So, a leaker?Wink

Lweji · 01/06/2017 11:24

Yes, this could be one of those The Apprentice twists where it looks like he's going to sack someone and then he fires the other.

Or he could say he's pulling out, but then take forever to actually do it.
