To wonder why people placemark instead of "watch"?

Why do people placemark i.e. comment with things like "I'll come back to rtft later" or the hideous "." when they can just click "watch this thread"?

Either because if they leave a comment it appears in a different colour on the app so they can pick up where they left off more easily, or because they are inconsiderate bastards. Or possibly a bit of both.

britbat23 · 31/05/2017 23:01

If you post in a thread you get to read a notification from mumsnet as to why the thread was closed.

Otherwise, the thread just disappears and you never find out that 837-page thread about the parking dispute with the narcissistic transgender mother-in-law with ASD was a hoax all along.

I can't watch a thread when I'm viewing on my phone. Only on pc

alltalknobaby · 31/05/2017 23:04

Ok the notification thing makes sense. Doesn't excuse it though

April if you swipe left across a thread you get the option to watch - on my phone anyway (iPhone)

No bookmark option on the mobile site
Watching threads can become unmanageable on a phone on a fast moving thread.

Anothernewnn · 31/05/2017 23:13

placemark

JessieMcJessie · 31/05/2017 23:16

Yes there is exploded, tap the three dots in the bottom right of the post and it gives you the option to bookmark.

alltalknobaby · 31/05/2017 23:37

Thanks everyone, I asked for that really Grin

I have actually learned something though!

OP posts:
ExplodedCloud · 31/05/2017 23:38

No it really doesn't.

ProseccoBitch · 31/05/2017 23:39

It pisses me off too, I'm with you OP.

ProseccoBitch · 31/05/2017 23:40

@ExplodedCloud it does on the phone app for me.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/05/2017 23:40

There are bookmarks and watching on the mobile site.

I placemark because I go back to thread I'm on not threads I'm watching.

ExplodedCloud · 31/05/2017 23:42

If you're using the app it does. I'm not.
On my Android phone on the mobile site, it doesn't.

DonkeyOaty · 31/05/2017 23:43

It's a Computer Says No sitch on the mobile site. Don't use the app.

Anyhoo.

.

CleopatraTheCatLover · 31/05/2017 23:44

That doesn't work on my tablet, so I have to place mark.

DonkeyOaty · 31/05/2017 23:46

Actually, "." looks like a face so I'll adopt that as my watching placeholder. Cheers OP [Fonz style thumbs up]

AprilLudgateDwyer · 31/05/2017 23:47

Omg didn't know that!! Thanks Grin

ijustwannadance · 31/05/2017 23:48

On android app there's a little arrow in a circle near the top right corner of the thread. If you press on it it opens the box of options. Watch/block/report etc.

BackforGood · 31/05/2017 23:49

I'm thinking of saving, copying and pasting the answer to this, it gets asked so regularly.
I put a 'watch' threads that I want to keep - so maybe something to do with a recommendation for car insurance for young drivers, or recommendation for a holiday destination, or a thread with lots of links I'll find useful in a few months time.
Completely different function from wanting to see what happens on a thread - where the OP is going to report back with some more information or an update later. By commenting or 'placemarking' it then comes up in your 'threads I'm on' to pick up later that day or maybe the next day.
