To wonder why people placemark instead of "watch"?

Why do people placemark i.e. comment with things like "I'll come back to rtft later" or the hideous "." when they can just click "watch this thread"?

OP posts:

Sorry, mobile site not app. Unless same thing.

SaltySeaBird · 31/05/2017 23:57

I watch threads I want to save because they have useful information or advice in them.

I placemark threads I'm just being nosy about. It stops my watched threads getting cluttered, I can see deletion messages and I like that it colours my post and I can pick up from the same spot easily.

ExplodedCloud · 01/06/2017 00:04

Yes on the mobile site using the dots or arrows you can watch a thread. But not bookmark it.
Mobile site and app are different.

StarlitTrees · 01/06/2017 00:40

I use an iPhone. On the mobile site I both watch a thread (down arrow at top of thread) and bookmark it (3 dots on the last comment).
I can always get back onto a thread, and to the last post I read by doing this.

I also don't get placemarking Confused

I get sent email notifications when I do this so I can always see deletion messages.

JessieMcJessie · 01/06/2017 09:46

Yes, Starlittrees I was just about to post the same screenshot!

I am definitely using the mobile site not the app Exploded - am well aware of the difference as I tried the app for a while and did not get in with it.

I am also using an iPhone like Starlit so perhaps your version of the mobile site is different if you are on Android.

Etymology23 · 01/06/2017 09:49

Hah! Had not worked out how to watch threads until now! Had just been bookmarking and seeing if they popped up again in chat or wherever.

Useful thread this - thank you!

alltalknobaby · 01/06/2017 11:34

Okay so I was on a post that just got deleted - as in, I'd commented on it. No message saying why it was deleted. What am I missing? Is there a setting for this somewhere?

OP posts:
Maudlinmaud · 01/06/2017 11:39

The full stop placemark does annoy me somewhat. I need to get out more.
I always think just comment, anything would be better than .
Op you should see hqs message especially if you have commented.

I have an android and can bookmark, watch etc.

C3H8O · 01/06/2017 11:59

.

Allthebestnamesareused · 01/06/2017 12:02

Whenever this comes up people are always told the reason why:

Not all phones display the options to watch, bookmark etc.

Not all PCs do either.

You are lucky if yours does. Accept other people can't!

Lallypopstick · 01/06/2017 12:05

I hate it (and report it) if it's on a thread where someone is really going through something heavy, because it's completely insensitive. Like if you were sitting at a table having a conversation with some friends, and someone is just staring at you the whole time, saying nothing.

I hate it on fast moving threads (like parking ones) because the thread gets full, then people who aren't the OP start other threads asking for an update.

I've also never had a deletion message. Fomo.

BackforGood · 01/06/2017 14:41

If you have commented on a thread that gets deleted, then, when you go to your 'thereads I'm on' list, the fact it has been deleted is recorded there - usually with the reason. They aren't e-mailing each of us separately Grin

alltalknobaby · 01/06/2017 15:33

Nope not on the iPhone app
