Roundabout Lanes!! 😡

Nerves2017 · 26/05/2017 12:37

Cars A and B are both heading for Exit C.

Which land should each car be in before exiting the roundabout?

Roundabout Lanes!! 😡

They just stay where they are!

I love spiral roundabouts for this. Also Google maps for telling me what lane to go on in the silly huge ones.

ComputerUserNotTrained · 26/05/2017 13:19

I think I might have misinterpreted which lane Car A was in Blush

Yukbuck · 26/05/2017 13:19

computeruser car A is not in the wrong Lane on the diagram. Car A is in the lane heading to exit C. The cars on the diagram are the little colour coded things and NOT the writing.

Yukbuck · 26/05/2017 13:20

Haha cross post computeruser

I did the exact same thing at first. Was studying it for ages.

Op the other car was in the wrong..they should have kept in their Lane.

ThePants999 · 26/05/2017 13:21

Anyone saying anything other than "both lanes are fine" confuses the hell out of me. It's WRITTEN ON THE ROAD.

TempusEedjit · 26/05/2017 13:28

YABU for pretending you might have doubts about whether you were in the correct lane - you clearly were.

You obviously just pounced on an opportunity to show off your diagramming skills to MN Grin

LadyRoseate · 26/05/2017 13:39

Ugh I hate lanes on roundabouts (and at junctions). Why do they put the info and arrows on the road, when so often that means it's covered up with cars and you can't see it?

On roundabouts I always take care to get it right and follow the instructions and get beeped at by twats anyway – grrrrr.

ESPECIALLY hate it approaching junctions when everyone piles into the bus lane to get into a lane for turning left. So as you approach, you have two choices - go in the bus lane which you shouldn't do, or try to butt in later on and piss people off.

CressidaTheHeathen · 26/05/2017 14:11

Frankly it's impossible to say - the road markings would usually indicate that.

For instance there's a four lane roundabout here where you can go straight on in the left three lanes, but there have been a few accidents as cars in lanes 2 and 3 assume cars from lane 1 are turning left (which would be the logical assumption with no road markings).

CressidaTheHeathen · 26/05/2017 14:12

Or are your numbers the road markings? I'm confused Grin

SocksRock · 26/05/2017 14:27

There's one near Oxford which annoys the hell out of me every time with people drifting into my lane. There are 4 lanes on the slip road coming down to the roundabout. Left hand takes the first exit into the services. Middle two lanes both marked to take the second exit. Right hand lane to either go straight on back up to the road you've just left or to turn right. I always take the right hand of the two middle lanes as at the next roundabout I want to go right and the number of people who cannot stay in lane and nearly hit me is astounding. And then beep at me. When I am exactly where I'm supposed to be.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 26/05/2017 14:32

There are a number of funny roundabouts near me

One in the village has two lanes

You need to be in the right hand one to go right or straight ahead and the left lane to go left

I have had a number of people yelling and gesticulating and beeping their horns when they have tried to go straight ahead from the left hand
lane

Pratts

Allthebestnamesareused · 26/05/2017 14:42

You were right and he was wrong (and a knob!)

EmilyBiscuit · 26/05/2017 14:42

I have had a number of people yelling and gesticulating and beeping their horns when they have tried to go straight ahead from the left hand lane

This is what happens when people don't pay attention to road signs. There's one near me with massive use both lanes for straight ahead signs. Still have to watch out for the knobs that doesn't bother looking at the signs. Bloody annoying.

amammabear · 26/05/2017 14:47

Anyone who thinks the answer is anything other than both cars are in the right lanes should hand in their licence....

MyDressIsBold · 26/05/2017 14:56

Socksrock I know exactly the roundabout you are talking about. I also always take the right hand lane as people seem to habitually queue on the left. Then they are surprised that you might be continuing on to the A40. Both lanes have A40 written on them in massive letters!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 26/05/2017 14:57

emily

Absolutely

And its happened on a few other local roundabouts

Happy to agree that while driving i make occasional mistakes like most people

But i hate it when people yell or beep...AND THEY ARE THE ONE MAKING THE MISTAKE

EwanWhosearmy · 26/05/2017 15:24

Rufus

With you all the way on this. Nothing more frustrating than having the idiot who has just cut you up shouting at beeping as if you are wrong.

My pet hate is when drivers insist on floating into the left lane as the go round a roundabout seemingly oblivious to the vehicle already there.

ballerinabelle · 26/05/2017 15:28

I live in a town WELL known for its roundabouts. It would depend on how many lanes were in the road you were exiting on to.

1 lane then you would use the outside lane and 2 lanes the outside and middle

NewPapaGuinea · 26/05/2017 20:39

Both lanes can be used to go off exit C (A25) so not sure why car A thinks otherwise!

Fairenuff · 26/05/2017 20:47

I can't see a 'car B' in your picture Confused

ALemonyPea · 26/05/2017 20:52

There is a roundabout near me similar to this. There is always one dickhead who can't read the numerous amounts of road markings and signs.

@Fairenuff - car B is the red rectangle next to pink car A.

FuckingDingDong · 26/05/2017 21:01

Spiral roundabouts should mean people are automatically in the correct lane, but some idiots still manage to fuck them up

stuntcamel · 26/05/2017 21:06

Staying in the lane the signs/road markings show you need to be in when entering the roundabout would be ideal.

However, I know of several 4-5 lane massive roundabouts with multiple dual-carriageway exits, where the road markings change without warning when you are half-way round. If you stay in what was originally the right lane for you (and specifically marked as the correct lane), it will suddenly morph into a lane going somewhere else.
