Even major energy companies know that there's a limited supply of fossil fuels, anyway. It's becoming more expensive and more dangerous to get at them.

They also know that the consequences of global warming will affect them, as people living among other people. How food is produced, migration movements, sea levels, increase in number of storms, etc.

Besides, I'm sure many have already invested quite a lot on renewable and cleaner energy and don't want to see it go to waste. In addition to the already mentioned loss of international competitiveness.

I think he's been under pressure from many, which is why he's not said what his decision is yet.
Going on a limb and say I suspect he won't pull out, actually, but he's holding on for something relating to his support base.
