Gianforte is the Republican nominee for Montana's House seat in the 2017 special election. He just physically assaulted a reporter.

saffronwblue · 25/05/2017 00:55

I'm stunned by the US leaking details about Manchester. What happened to the brotherhood of law enforcement?
Very sorry for Spicey that he didn't get a chance to meet confess all to the Pope. He is probably worrying that his immortal soul is damned.
Love the thread title. Still check it first thing every morning before acknowledging DH and DC!

Trump Campaign announces @POTUS to do another political rally next Thursday in Cedar Rapids, IA, his 5th such rally as pres.

Just stunning that this would happen.

Even more stunning that it would happen the day before MT's special election.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 01:21

another rally?
hasn't he heard of jet lag? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 01:22

I'm furious about the leak of info re Manchester. They've potentially compromised our safety.

lionheart · 25/05/2017 01:28

Guardian has audio for the Montana incident.

AcrossthePond55 · 25/05/2017 01:39
AcrossthePond55 · 25/05/2017 01:44

Aggravate and isolate. Could it be possible these Manchester leaks are actually coming from Russian operatives as a way to alienate the US and UK?

Divide and Conquer.

cozietoesie · 25/05/2017 01:56

I'm guessing that the NYT reporter who leaked that info is having or has just finished having a looonnngg conversation with the editorial board, Across.

cozietoesie · 25/05/2017 01:58

(I have a vague memory that several news sources received the info by the way. Only NYT published it, I think?)

AcrossthePond55 · 25/05/2017 02:17

I certainly hope so cozie. I'm absolutely behind Freedom of the Press. But with that freedom needs to come discretion.

TheClaws · 25/05/2017 02:26

Thanks for the new thread with a stunning title, Illegitimate.

I'm also stunned he's doing another rally. He must feel that, being out of the country, the adoration ratio may have dropped, so he must maintain it. Or he could just be a narcissist that constantly requires reassurance. I'm going with Number 2. Grin

CaveMum · 25/05/2017 02:42

Thanks for the new thread.

Another one who is gobsmacked by the leaks. It really is amateur hour isn't it.

TheClaws · 25/05/2017 03:03

So if the leak is such a bad thing - why does the NYT still have the material on its home page for all and sundry to see?

TheClaws · 25/05/2017 03:04

Apart from the obvious clicks, of course.

TheClaws · 25/05/2017 03:35

This is from the DPRK Official News website (an odd and strange place). I won't link to it as you never know what cyber-nasties they could have nested in there, although this is North Korea, so I might opbe overestimating them. Or not. In any case, the rhetoric is fascinating and toe-curling.

KAPPC Spokesman Hits U.S. and Its Followers for Faulting DPRK's Measure for Self-defence

Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee (KAPPC) gave an answer to the question raised by KCNA Wednesday as regards the fact that the U.S. and its vassal forces are faulting the DPRK over its test-launch of ground-to-ground medium-to-long range strategic missile Pukguksong-2.

The U.S., browbeaten by the test-launch, called for "persisting economic and diplomatic pressure" while describing it as "disappointing and shocking." And Japan and other forces following the U.S. are calling the launch a "challenge to the world".

The south Korean authorities, too, are echoing the "chorus" of the hostile forces against the DPRK.

Deriding them, the spokesman said:

It is a normal work for national defence which the DPRKis obliged to do to bolster its nuclear deterrence, pursuant to the great line for simultaneous development of the two fronts to make serial and mass production of Juche weapons, including Pukguksong-2, for deployment at the strategic force units.

It is quite natural for the DPRK to bolster up the military capability for self-defence, now that the U.S. has become all the more undisguised in its attempt at preemptive attack and in nuclear war hysteria.

The hostile forces including the U.S. must clearly understand the immutable faith and annihilating spirit of Songun Korea possessed of nuclear sword of justice, and should not run amuck.

The south Korean authorities, in particular, should come to their senses as early as possible, clearly understanding that it is an act ignorant of what might defends the nation's dignity and sovereignty and guarantees the north-south relations for them to fault the DPRK's legitimate measures, dancing to the tune of outsiders.

As long as the U.S. and its vassal forces have become desperate in their moves to stifle the DPRK, we will further step up the efforts for diversifying and modernizing the nuclear force before the aggressors and provocateurs come to their senses.

The world will see with admiration how the DPRK makes more wonderful Juche weapons, nuclear attack means of Korean style which would strike terror into the hostile forces including the U.S.

The final victory belongs to the DPRK holding the treasured nuclear sword of justice.
saffronwblue · 25/05/2017 05:50

Last line is particularly chilling, isn't it?

WestleyAndButtockUp · 25/05/2017 06:16

I'm trying to work out whether the Montana Republican bodyslamming a Guardian journalist could possibly have any real impact on the race.

Isn't the Special Election vote today, Thursday?

Republican voters in general would likely be happy that a liberal journalist has been attacked -- by the actual candidate!

By the time they might be able to perceive it as an attack on freedom of speech, the special election will be over.

Interesting that FOx News (local) are the witnesses supporting the Guardian journalist, and contradicting the Republican statement that the Guardian physically started it. Their statement is quite clear.

Also interesting that the sheriff investigating the incident has donated to the Republican's campaign....

Too little, too late?

megletthesecond · 25/05/2017 06:40

The leaks are shocking.

scaryteacher · 25/05/2017 06:54

Red As the Buzzfeed reporter well knows, the meeting at NATO today is not a summit in the scope of the Wales and Warsaw summits, it is a one day meeting, and will encompass Trump opening the new HQ. It is also to get him on board with NATO, which I think he is. More important to nail down his unreserved commitment to the Alliance than anything else at present.

The comments in the article about Trump wanting NATO nations to spend more on defence should reference the fact that Obama was pushing for this at the Wales summit. It should also point out that Belgium benefits from NATO and SHAPE being here in terms of the financial gain it brings.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 25/05/2017 06:56

The leaks are shocking.

I agree. I've been following the Trump presidency with interest because it's been so "out there" it started out like following a hammy political soap opera/House of Cards. It's not even remotely funny now. This White House has gone "off the reservation" and it is now putting lives in real jeopardy - both domestically (AHCA) and by compromising the work of the intelligence community. I am beginning to wonder how much longer our democracies and institutions can survive such a sustained assault.

RedToothBrush · 25/05/2017 07:13

The fact that the who eye witnesses to the body slamming were FoxNews is both significant and important.

FoxNews is believed by people who are of a particular mindset who don't trust the liberal media.

To go against the GOP candidate and effectively say he was lying means they add credibility to Ben Jacobs as honest.

What's Ben Jacobs been up to lately?

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/apr/28/greg-gianforte-republican-candidate-congress-russia-companies
GOP candidate has financial ties to US-sanctioned Russian companies

Drip drip drip. Die hard Trump supporters won't turn but those approval ratings matter.

Stuffofawesome · 25/05/2017 07:17

I am not The Colander

Gumpendorf · 25/05/2017 07:30

I was really shocked by the NYT article with pics of what was found at the scene. The UK press never has that information, and the US never leaked before Trump. Just who is doing this and why. And yes, I'm scared of the answer.

Thanks for the new thread. It must be a bigly number of threads we've used up by now. We're winning huge.
