The 'Twitter debate' I saw this morning wasn't about the actual information published, but sparked complaints that UK people were being denied information about the attack. Manchester, or so the argument went, was the final straw - we needed more transparency to enable us to gauge what kind of threats we faced, We were being denied that information because the govt didn't want to take what some saw as necessary steps to keep us safe. That's how I saw the debate. I don't agree but it struck me that the attitude to this attack was v different from Westminster. The fact that so many victims are children is a key factor.

The pushing video is just dreadful. According to R4 news, Trump berated NATO members for not paying their share. Macron, according to the reporter, was openly amused. Others were obviously eye rolling. It sounded embarrassing.

In the context of that campaign, it's not a lot. Moreover, it doesn't say, if I recall, where those funds might have come from - just that they were 'online'?

That actually makes it sound less rational, because releasing the bombers name and a picture of part of the bomb don't make us more informed about what sort of threat we face. We know. We're rather familiar with bombs.

On the other hand, on previous occasions I've seen discussions where people were arguing for more coverage, where it strongly looked like the subtext was, "I want you to see pictures of dead children so you get emotional, because then you'll be more amenable to my course of action which I'm going to sell as a solution."

For me one of the highlights of Trump's tour is how world leaders have moved from politeness to thinly disgusted loathing to obvious contempt (or gloom, in the Pope's case).
